Before I start, this post is my opinion based on my own experiences and the experiences of those I play with. Whether you disagree or agree, that is also your opinion.
In D1 crucible, special ammo was special because it was limited. You spawned in with about one clip of special ammo, and if you died, you would spawn without any special ammo. This means you would rely on special ammo crates throughout the map that would spawn periodically.
This guaranteed that you wouldn't face an entire team of shotgunners or snipers at all times.
In D2, everyone seems to constantly have special ammo. Entire teams will sit in the back and camp with snipers or run around the map slide shotgunning.
I am not asking that special ammo using weapons be removed from the game or anything drastic. I simply think it would make sense to limit the use of weapons that have the ability to one shot.
It used to be this way in D1. I would simply like for crucible to work like this again.
Edit: A lot of people seem to be misunderstanding something. I AM NOT talking about year one D2. I am talking about D1. Year 1 D2 was focused on balance and made snipers and shotgunners very unhappy because it eliminated aggressive plays.
Year 1 D2 is not the same as D1 pvp in which snipers and shotguns still had the edge, just less ammo.

7 RepliesIn y1 D1 crates spawned every 30 seconds, and could grant 6 ammo each... not to mention there were multiple crates... There was MORE special ammo by a lot. Just less use because primaries were in a strong place and the maps weren’t designed like complete shit. Right now there are tons of snipers thanks to the revoker quest and the release of beloved (the first good sniper in d2) But for 8 months or so it’s been non stop shotguns prior to this. Why? Because Bungie can’t design a map for shit

4 RepliesI'm struggling right now to think of 1 thing PvP wise that bungie is doing right. Infrequent updates to the point of laughability. No new maps or game modes in 3 seasons. Unbalanced to the point of ridiculousness. Oversaturation of supers and heavy ammo. Terrible matchmaking, often starting games with one team at a huge disadvantage. Ddosing in comp. Level advantage in iron banner playing off of a broken infusion system. Questlines that lock major armor rewards behind steps that restrict your loadout, perpetuating the idea that bungie wants you to play their game a certain way. No trials. I'm at my wits end. Once upon a time I really liked destiny PvP. I really WANT to like destiny PvP. But Bungie just hasn't given a shit about it in so long, and I'm tired of it always turning into a bad experience.

Back in my day, sidearms took special. Now, I can die without giving anyone special. Life is guuuuuuud

Get good
-
1 ReplyYou do realize that was literally the last few months of D1 right?
-
3 Replieswell half of the snipers arent even good so im fine with that, shotgunners are mainly titans running at u with their one eye mask, i usually use a sidearm against them, its not too hard to get them
-
1 ReplyPersonally I’d think we’d all do a lot better by not trying so hard to balance the crucible. Half the reason D1s original crucible was so popular was because it wasn’t thought out. It was a last minute jumbled mess of mayhem and explosions. I’m sure what you’re proposing would help the game a lot in terms of balance...I just don’t think any majority of the player base really wants that

5 RepliesThat special change made so many people mad that they actually had to be good with primaries like they always should have. Best time for destiny pvp
-
1 ReplyDisagree in D1 y3 you had to constantly have special ammo or you would get the candy beaten out of you because you would be playing a prediction game debating if they had ammo or not (also waiting on ammo to spawn). IMO the D2 y2 system is fine.
-
1 ReplyRemember when everyone wanted the weapon slots changed.... This is why the double primary was a thing.
-
1 ReplyEdited by SirHeadPoppington: 6/20/2019 9:20:43 PMI remember D1 being just as bad for this tbh, always thought it was out of control (not so much year 3). Imo special ammo should be even more limited than that.

My Revoker and I disagree

4 RepliesThey dictate almost how every engagement is “fought”. I use quotes because a “fight” implies some form of action and reactions from both parties, but since almost all of these exchanges end in one or two hits, that hardly qualifies as a fight. It’s painfully annoying to try and use a primary weapon at a special weapon’s effective range. Using a Sidearm on a Shotgun user with extremely high movement speed is a chore. Using a Scout Rifle on someone scoped in with a Sniper Rifle and getting headshotted despite being faster and using accurate shots to try and throw off his aim is unbelievably insulting. The main reason why special weapons are so annoying is because they lack real downsides to using over a primary weapon the majority of the time, unless the primary is busted in some way, lacks traditional downsides of its weapon type, or does too much damage at too many ranges for what it is (looking at you, Adaptive Pulse Rifles). If they’re going to persist in normal play, they need to do something to make someone think twice about using them in every situation as their single best option. Make shotties and GLs handle slower and harder to move with. Make fusion rifles spread again, instead of hitscan. Put de-scope on Sniper Rifles. Or ditch all of the above and make the heavy crates drop special ammo instead, and remove heavies entirely (Mayhem excluded). Before you jump on me for feeling like I attacked your preferred playing style, these are just examples of what they could do. Maybe not what they should do, but something should be done. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, either.

6 RepliesThis is where icebreaker infinite ammo and primary sniper exotics became a serious problem in d1 to the point that energy weaps became too irrelevant Also nobody likes snowballs and double primary -YEAR 1 OF DESTINY 2-
-
3 RepliesThings in d1 would one shot more. Like sticky grenades, back stab blade dancer, and everything else that one shots in d2 is the same as d1.
-
2 RepliesYour talking about the worst time in destiny 1. Before in the prime days of crucible and trials you would spawn in every time with ammo, I think that bungie did a great job to recreating those days.
-
3 RepliesY1D2 was buttcheeks and a borefest It literally almost killed this game. There was absolutely no excitement. No 1v2,1v3 opportunities. Just a bunch of butthugging and handholding. Like it or OHK Weapons bring that opportunity back.
-
2 RepliesThe special ammo system in d1 y3 was awful in my opinion and everyone’s that i played with. The current system is better I think, but I will say I wouldnt mind if the ammo per brick was reduced a bit. With double scavenger you get 3 sniper/shotgun/fusion/tube GL shots which is a lot, it should probably just be 2.
-
put special back in the heavy slot !
-
3 RepliesImo we should never return to that system was the worst thing they put in. It killed sniper fights that were always a ton of fun or when I would rush down a lane with an ar just to assault a team of snipers.
-
2 RepliesYou mean Y3 destiny. I think they should increase the amount of ammo on initial spawn to 3 or four rounds, and depending on how you do with those rounds, what type of weapon your using, and how others on your team did with their special weapons. I’m not here to make some algorithm, so I don’t really know the specifics but I can come up with some listings for this. Shotguns and fusion rifles require less skills than sniper rifles, so getting four kills with a shotgun will award less ammo than four kills with a sniper rifle. Secondly, depending on your teams effectiveness you’d get more or less ammo. Say your teams average kills with special weapons in their first life was ~3.5, and you got 4 kills. You get more ammo than them.
-
2 Replies🏆 Well said. To many OP weapons depend on it. Makes Crucible a camp fest for snipers and Assclowns waiting around a corner to blast you with a 1 hit kill no aim or skill to use weapon!🤬
-
1 ReplyCrucible only worked after that special ammo nerf because of sidearms, ice breaker, invective and no land beyond. We don't have any of those... despite this, revoker would actually be useful but still wank and quite frankly I'd rather keep my consistent sniper ammo. I do respect your opinion though, bungie just needs to find the perfect line between what everyone wants
-
1 ReplyThe double primary system and team shooting meta nearly killed this game. It would be a bad move to return to that state of affairs
