I dont like or not like Datto. This over 1 hour vidoc shows Bungie is completely out of touch with the playerbase. Datto isnt a journalist. He is a player and a streamer. He should have not been chosen to ask questions about the new content or what Bungie is doing woth the future of D2. Datto did an ok job, but I felt he was constrained in his questioning and wonder if those questions were even his to begin with. As for Bungie, the fact they allowed Datto to be the interviewer shows Bungie is out of touch and insulated. They talk to themselves about the game and to streamers. A better way to conduct a vidoc like this was to bring in someone who is unbiased. Bungie dodnt do that. Paul Tassi from Forbes or any other journalist from a gaming magazine like Polygon, game informer or the like should have bern done. As a result, I have no more information than I already did going into the next DLC. Are there strikes? Are there more Crucible maps? What about QoL changes to the worlds? Enhancement cores? What exact changes are coming to my 'monster killing machine" (the new term for my character)? Cross save is great and all for those that play on more than one system, I dont. What happened to the Savathun storyline? These are but a few questions I still have. Datto didn't ask any of them. A good journalist would have. I felt this vodoc was designed to the player who just wants to shoot stuff. I want more than that. This vidoc left me with more questions than answers. At this point, I will be holding back on the pre-order until I see more. Game developers need tp be more open, Bungie shows they aren't with this vidoc.

  • Agree up to the bit about journalists. Firstly, Tassi is not a journalist. The gaming bloggers that contribute to online publications are not journalists. Regurgitating Bungie’s talking points, or Reddit, or streamers verbatim is not journalism; it’s an insult to it.

I actually had to look up his bio, Forbes states he is Senior Contributor to gaming, technology and internet section. As most News is going Online nowadays, I dont think that makes all journalists, bloggers. His reporting on video games are usually the ones I follow and he has shown he can be unbiased in his stories. Yes, he plays Destiny 2, but he has been fair, IMO on coverage of the game. Sometimes I disagree with him but that should be as it is. I was using him as one example of someone who could have done the interview.

  • I’m not trying to fault you for following him. I’m just saying I wouldn’t see much difference between him and any other streamer. I did like the fact that he stood up against cores in infusion, but then, he said he’d keep it up monthly. In fact he months since then, all he’s done is headline Bungie’s PR. BTW - contributors aren’t journalists. The publications clearly state the contributions they make don’t reflect their positions. That means nothing a contributor writes about is backed by the company. None of it has been confirmed or gone through the standard journalistic vetting process. Essentially, they are just blogging.

  • You gotta admit, post-Halo Bungie is excellent at marketing. Where they fall down hard is when they set up an echo chamber and pretend it’s “listening to community feedback” when it’s grindingly obvious they don’t listen to community feedback *cough* masterwork cores *cough cough*

  • This. It is precisely an echo chamber

  • Datto did alright, I am not a fan of his. But you can tell he makes a living talking about video games and not interviewing people. But that is the main issue that people have with having a streamer do the interviewing. They obviously will not ask the hard questions that the players want out of fear of bungle getting angry at them. The also having his twitter name as datto’s destiny didn’t help things either

How does a company in a Billion dollar industry put all of it's faith into Basement Streamers? You spend millions of dollars on marketing Bungie... Hire some f'ing TALENT and do it the right way. Bungie... let me help you out here.. The average joe gamer in the US... no matter the age... they all hate STREAMERS... McFly... HELLO?

  • Bungie doesn’t seem to understand. They watch because they have to. There are some that watch for entertainment, but not most. Most have to because Bungie made it the only way to find anything out. But if you’re going to integrate streamers into business as usual, you cannot call them “community “.

Savathuns story is waiting for you. You buy the expansion, and then you enjoy it... you buy the next one too, but you dont have time to play it, and eventually sell your game system, but dont worry, you play it on PC at your apartment, where you stay on the weekends to avoid full taxes on a home. I'm no supposed to do this.

  • He literally asked about strikes and crucible maps. He did a fine job asking biting questions, your problem is with the answers given.

  • Imagine trusting game journalists over the player base.

I don't really care that much either way, as it's bungie's company and they get to make the decisions in regards to their products and their advertisements. but, Trusting a streamer to reflect the wants and desires of the player is the equivalent of trusting big oil companies to reflect the wants and desires of environmentalists. Streamers have a conflict of interest when it comes to dealing with bungie, which is , they exist solely to gain a cash profit from their products. tl;dr: streamers are not a part of the player base, they are "business owners" making a profit from the game.

  • Im not saying that Datto represents the playerbase, I'm just saying that 'game journalists' are terrible sources for what goes on in video games. They are extremely out of touch with the community and the game in general. For example, I saw a somewhat recent article from Forbes where the guy has just now, found out about the lfg that bungie offers on the app/website.

  • I can agree with you on that. We can't be sure which journalists actually play the game, so it's difficult to trust their opinions to reflect what the typical players feel. I don't claim to have all the answers, myself. I just wanted to chime in because I see a lot of people claiming the streamers are the best sources of community opinion, or somehow know what's best for the player base without seeing the conflict of interests.

  • For sure that was a scripted format. They probably gave him the themes they wanted to discuss to promote the expansion, he came up with some questions around those themes. Nothing asked about cores, Eververse or how they plan to make PvP matchmaking better 🤦🏻‍♂️ You can’t blame Datto though, I suspect a large part of his livelihood is tied to the success of Destiny and he doesn’t want to alienate himself from Bungie by rattling their cage too much.

  •
As for Bungie, the fact they allowed Datto to be the interviewer shows Bungie is out of touch and insulated.
Seems clear to me that they've been inhabiting an echo chamber for quite a while now. Related: I'm strongly suspecting that sales of this DLC will end up being a wake up call.
