I think Bungie has a pretty genius idea with the Revoker but I'm cautious to assume it'll actually work. My clanmates have suggested that the new requirements may mean Bungie is phasing out comp. I don't know if it's about that at all, actually. Here's what I see:
1. Revoker is not a gun that kills any faster or more consistently as most pinnacles do. No bonus damage, no increased fire rate, nothing like that.
2. The Revoker is probably going to be an amazing sniper when it comes to handling. Snapshot, ambush sights, these make it a very high quality sniper that is likely to have great aim assist.
3. The Revoker is a sniper rifle that is forgiving. Whiffing a shot isn't the end of the world. You can reallign and try again. Another case is that you were flicked off of target. The Revoker, in this case, actively incentivizes disengaging the target and repositioning. This is a skill all competent sniper players have in their toolkit. Flinch balances the incredible power potential of snipers. The best response to flinch is not to fight it, but to find a new angle and get the jump on your opponents.
4. The Revoker is going to be the most forgiving pinnacle weapon to obtain. It will also require the most practice to use.
These things combined classify Revoker as a very special kind of pinnacle weapon. It is a weapon that teaches Guardians how to better play PvP. The Revoker will be a strong weapon. When a player has difficulty reaching fabled, they will be rewarded Revoker for their efforts. If they are driven to continue improving, using the Revoker to learn good sniping habits and gunskill will be an effective path to becoming a better player. Improving as a player will make comp more enjoyable.
However, the destiny community is not often willing to put in the time to learn the game. Often, a gun must be very strong and very easy to use to be worth the chase. Recluse, and Lunas to a lesser extent now it's being adjusted, are more typical pinnacle weapons in that context. The Revoker will not be very easy to use, but anyone can obtain it. Without any competitive win streaks, it will take about 60 wins to earn the Revoker.
It will likely take a monumental shift in community mindset to fully embrace what this gun is bringing to the table. It's going to take guardians looking inward to see where they need to improve instead of getting frustrated at their opponents. I ask all guardians chasing Recluse next season take a careful look at the Revoker when they obtain it, and consider the long-term effects of focused practice in the crucible on their success in competitive. Let's make the best of this!

1 ReplyI think the perk should have just been to pick up the enemy's special ammo on a kill, without having to go and pick it up. Like shoot and loot.

1 ReplyBungie is constantly testing things and right under our noses. I think Revelry was one big test of what more power could be like. It wouldn’t surprise me if Comp is on the way out — or at the very least fundamentally changing. But think about it from this angle, Comp may need to die for Trials to come back. Because Comp is just a poor version of Trials right now. Bungie isn’t going to support PvP if the player numbers stay so low. Why do you think Crucible hasn’t gotten anything all year long? So something has to drastically change because the current state of Crucible and especially Comp is pretty low and has been all year.

18 RepliesI fell in love with the idea of revoker immediately after I heard about it's perk. This will make so many people start trying out sniping, and it just may achieve the herculean task of moving the meta away from shotguns, even if only slightly. To anyone thinking sniping may be their thing, the only advice I have is keep it at. It's a skill that has to be fine tuned, and if you want an easy way to start revoker is probably going to be it.

20 RepliesAll of this is trumped by PVP just simply being hot garbage. Matchmaking is lopsided There's no effective anti cheat. No dedicated servers Class imbalance Ult Imbalance You wanna know how PVP gets better? Halo. Weapons get assigned in game, classes get nullified durring pvp. Everyone is reduced to an equal damage table. Fixed.

5 RepliesEdited by TwigTwig: 6/1/2019 4:50:18 PMKinetic snipers are hot garbage anyway. A weapon that rewards playing badly in a slot that has many better options. Doesn't seem like a good reward. Snapshot and good handling? Most of my secondary snipers have snapshot and fluted barrel. The only benefit to this sniper is a shorter scope. Not a good trade off for having to sacrifice TLW/Sniper combo. This is what happens when people cry about Luna's. They water down competitive pinnacle rewards. There is a very low skill cap to this weapon. If you're good with any sniper currently in the game, you won't be better with this weapon. All it does is make bad players better. Combine that with the fact that it's available to everyone this season, good or not, and you can see that Bungie has effectively abandoned Competitive altogether.

6 RepliesUnless I need sniper kills to obtain the weapon. Not going to use a sniper. Get the revoker, storing it forever. The ability to obtain it will bring me back to the crucible playlist. Still won't get any of the other pinnalce weapons that have an impossible to get requirement (fabled).
-
I agree; I’ve said the same thing since the weapon was revealed: that this is a gun that incentivizes new players trying out sniping. I personally think that it’s a good weapon. There aren’t a lot of people who snipe really, and having a gun that seems to really help you out along the path to sniping skill is a good idea. With this gun it really seems like Bungie wants to give a high skill type of weapon some use from the broader player base.

25 RepliesI wish it wasnt kinetic. What am I gonna use, not forgotten? too bad it’s getting nerfed into the ground in 3 days
-
I personally will love the thing. Haven't gotten a good roll on a kinetic sniper yet so having a snapshot/ambush scope sniper to pair with Recluse or Luna's (I'm personally still gonna use it) will be fantastic.

Edited by WormChi: 6/2/2019 1:34:54 AMI only snipe in Destiny for all continent including pvp. I’m excited for this sniper just to have a snappy low zoom good handiling sniper for the kinetic slot. The perk is just icing.

1 Reply-blam!- it's a kinetic weapon idk if ima have the will to replace my last word. 😭

21 Replieswell i don't know what you guys believe what exactly you call with that but a practice gun that forgives missing shots isn't the way you get better you rely on it not more. It's a worthless gun for a Player which actually Hits his/her shots it's completly useless. This so called Skill you want to archiev will you guys never get not by believing this crap again and again. You get better if you want it i earned so much experience by gettin not forgotten more than ever i wanted it so i did it. The reward was meanigful and powerfull enough to do something for it. I bet my NF and 10000 silver most of you guys never tried ( if i would check every body writing in here 90% of them are not above 1000-2000 glory) in 1 or 2 Weeks you guys scream about Service Revolver and erentil or jotunn and recluse, prime whatever.. and the circles continues.. Aren't you guys bored? Talking about things you don't archiev anyway? It's not even funny anymore.. Seriously.. (sarcasm) Hell Yeah i am so afraid of the New sniper pro Player coming out of nowhere.. Lets face it most of you guys are not good with Luna or Nf or any other pinnacle gun and at the end of the Day most of you quit by the same reason not facing the real problem or sitting in the spawn for 90% of the Match duration. I am a rusher. Run kill run kill next. I droped my Kd twice on purpose.. I like fast games and i prefer Luna Players 10000 Times more than pulserifle spawncamper and at the end that's what comes. You guys always arguing this crap only make your own Game less enjoyable by giving yourself a greater Handicap called lets nerf everything till the Game sucks. a good Player doesn't care. I can play every gun i actually did on triumphs called Crucible weapon perfection i can link a Screenshot how many of you guys did that.. Oh right there is not even 0.5 percent of the Playerbase which actually did that.. So what Skill are we exactly talking about? The Skill of empty arguments and crying as loud as it possible get? Nf or Luna wasn't close so OP People pretend it has many contenders but well what do i know by archieving every Crucible triumph i can possibly get mostly playing solo ( for not totaly farming my opponents, every Game over 30-60 kills and over 40 days Crucible playtime) what do i know. And the arguments that People bought it or some shit i don't care really. In every looter Game with good rewards rwt exist i play runescape since 2006 and it has this problem too since i play you can't do anything against it. It happens. People can do with their money what ever they want. I personaly would never do something but it's their decision not mine and they don't get better through a gun that's bs. Work for the Things you want and get better or not but then don't complain. End of Story. That's the sad truth.

4 RepliesIt's going to be an average sniper - at best - unless it's got crazy base stats, it'll disappear within a week or two.
-
After playing Destiny I look in the mirror and peer deep into my soul. What I see is a fool that hates PVP. I should look forward many moons from now at the possibility’s if I learn to use this sniper rifle.

2 RepliesCompetitive PvP........in Destiny.......... baaaaahahaha!! While people TRY to make Destiny competitive, it never will be. The list of rules and white washing of the game at "tournaments" further exemplifies this.
Competitive Destiny....baaaaahahaha.

yup, still laughing
5 RepliesReally good post man. I was planning to use this gun to help me learn sniping, so we'll see how it goes.

9 RepliesEdited by CosmiQ-Toast: 6/1/2019 7:23:23 PMPeople act like luna and recluse kills basically anything it touches. Until you realize you actually have to be good to dominate with it. And how do you get good exactly? By practicing. Luna rewards players who have put in the time to get better at pacing their shots and honing their accuracy. That first kill grants you a higher chance of survivability without increasing your health or resistance. It gives you a chance to fight again, and more efficiently the next time, but if you miss, or Luna’s Howl runs out you're back to where you started. I think the design of this gun is great and doesn't deserve the nerf its getting. Because bungie is taking a weapon that is great and making it average. Not to mention a lot of us put time into getting that hand cannon and for us to now see it get nerfed is -blam!-ing bullshit. And youll notice the only ones complaining about luna is people who either started playing destiny or k/d and kda below 1.0. IMO their opinion about luna shouldnt matter. They havent put the time to get better, or dont care enough about pvp to begin with. I also think part of the problem is bungies way of handling pvp. Kda and kd should actually matter and you should be ranked and placed in matches according to your skill with the option to jump into harder matches with increased glory point gain. I feel like they already know this seeing as they've had a pvp mode catered specifically to hardcore pvpers. But thats gone now, so I'm not sure what they're planning. But i digress, lunas and recluse are great weapons undeserving of their nerf. Although i would say Not forgotten is a gun that probably should've never existed at all, seeing its range is much higher despite the harder recoil, which can be eventually mastered which makes it OP IMO.

2 RepliesIt’s not flashy, but I really like the ideas behind it and the quest
-
Great point
-
I totally agree, it's going to be a good sniper.
-
Meh.... 2 observations, real observations. Either you are camping stationary sniper and moderately effective at best, or you are a mobile sniper and you already have your go to. This is philosophical difference and you can only go so far as a camper. This on the player, not the gun. 2 and probably more importantly, the game punishes snipers, you have 2 shots and then have to scrounge for ammo, fusions and shotguns pick up ammo by the nature of their play style. It turned me from a fairly good silicon neuroma killing machine to an erentail scrub.
-
2 RepliesA legendary sniper with ambush snapshot and essentially mulligan can't wait to get it!
-
6 RepliesGreat assessment! I was really looking forward to this being in the energy slot to pair with TLW. As it is, I'll probably try running it with Recluse, but I see myself reverting to TLW and twilight oath combo.
-
5 RepliesI think the revoker should also returned ammo on a precision kill in addition to a miss.
-
7 RepliesEdited by Spooky_Ari: 5/31/2019 8:14:00 PMYep, Pinnacles are designed to make things easier for you, whilst also giving a slight edge who can take advantage of their unique perks through their own skill. LH/NF broke this philosophy, which is why it was adjusted. It was just too potent because it gave you an advantage for already doing what you're supposed to whilst it did what it does naturally. It was doing all the work and wasn't reflective of the players skill. Mountain Top rewards accuracy, but it's much easier to use than Single shot grenade Launchers that bounce. It's basically a Legendary version of Jotunn w/o tracking. Redrix, Recluse, Breakneck reward you with a RoF and/or damage boost for getting kills before hand. Same concept can be said for Hush, a more massive draw time reduction than Archer's Tempo if you're willing to go the extra mile and get hip fire precision shots. It rewards you for mastering the Bow.

Kinda wished there was another weapon up higher for the rank “Legend” just so players who are more experienced in PvP have something else to grind for However that does not diminish the idea of this sniper ,Im happy that this sniper will make people’s competitive experience more healthy and attractive to start Not even for competitive but sniping as well ,Snipers are so overlooked on console in PvP so this sniper may just change the playing field and encourage more long ranged battles And if it doesn’t work ,well ...my insurmountable skullfort is gonna be getting used a lot this season to say the least 😅
