Do you think Guardians get used to dying?

They probably do, but my guess is they still fear the pain. If you think about the Crucible from a lore perspective all that repeated death within such a short amount of time seems kind of gnarly. I guess folks can get used to anything if they experience it enough times.

  • They do get used to it after a while, for sure. Cayde’s death and the Red War kind of shook up the whole idea of immortality for a lot of Guardians I’m guessing, but we are still pretty okay with it.

  • I think that after a time, guardians don't view dying as really "dying". Dying for guardians is the equivalent of getting training bruises or scrapes.

  • I'd say it depends on how long the guardian has been around. Those that were risen during the Dark Age are known to be pretty messed up.

  • Absolutely, multiple lore cards show how robotic and unfeeling Guardians are when it comes to their own death. Hell in forsaken there's an entry about a Warlock who keeps killing himself in increasingly obscure ways just to become a thanatonaute

  • Think the StOmp-ee5 is proof that most of them are not of afraid of dying… unless it’s their last.

  • Think about the psychological tole. That much death would seriously fudge you up.

  • It’s funny how they die form literally falling without impact, it’s like they are afraid of heights and have a heart attack and die😂

    • Thats the point of the crucible, its to make Guardians not fear death.

I think Cayde enjoyed doing crazy stuff and didnt mind dying, like in the Forsaken cut scene where he rode that giant structure down that hole. He's also an EXO, so pain might not register the same for him. On the TV show Highlander (immortals), they never got used to it, damage is still damage, but they also know what types of extremes they could put themselves thru.

      • my son thinks our ghost are slave masters. he said our guardians died in the war and should be allowed to stay dead. "our ghosts just revive us to die and over again."

      • I honestly think that they'd get used to feeling pain (physical, maybe not emotional) since they had to die over and over again and experience some pretty gnarly deaths (at this point I wouldn't be surprised if we met a guardian who was messed up due to how many deaths they've experienced). As for the Crucible...since it's guardian vs. guardian...then yeah it'd be pretty violent since a few of the guardians are really competitive. The real question is that was one of the reasons the Crucible was created was because it would help guardians coexist with violent deaths (lore wise).

      • Your body automatically reduces repeated sensory input, called sensory gating. Crucible would be used to desensitize Guardians to the pain of dying.

      • We have several lore accounts of Guardians’ views on dying. Almost all of them are like this:
”Finnala always says she doesn’t mind dying, because it doesn’t last. A few seconds and then the Light comes, bright and warm. And she rises again. “ https://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/dormant-siva-iron-lords-24#dormant-siva
Guardians are used to dying and think little of it (not counting Thanatonaughts, who see a lot of importance in dying because of the insights they can gain). They don’t fear death. Dying their final deaths is a different thing entirely, of course, and we also have several perspectives on that. Reactions to permanent deaths are much more varied, and most seem to die bravely knowing that their final death is coming, but some are similar to these:
“This is not my end! I have come too far to die here! I've let one unknown force make me, now ~consume enhance replicate~” https://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/dormant-siva-iron-lords-29#dormant-siva

“I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die. I don’t want... ~consume enhance replicate~ Ghost? Ghost, where are you?” https://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/dormant-siva-iron-lords-28#dormant-siva
