I've seen a few comments regarding "moving this post down", so I'll chime in regarding the way thread aging works.
There is no trickery here - never has. If you're specifically referring to the "Trending" category, threads age over time. As a thread ages, it automatically has less priority in the Trending section meaning the threshold of "upvotes" required to keep it there is really high and scales up as time goes on (it's been this way for years). Upvotes/downvotes can play a factor, but only if a thread is new(ish). This particular thread you're referring to is already over 5 days old. Thus, it doesn't meet the requirements to live on the first page of trending.
"Latest" will always show most recent replies as the sorting, with a much longer time span until they aren't viewable, (I believe it's past a year), but is always much more difficult to follow in high traffic forums like D2. But anyone can still see a post with the direct link.

Lier lier pants on fire the “highest rated” post has 3 upvotes and 36 comments

Edited by Spawn: 5/23/2019 10:57:06 AMYou should probably read the rest of the thread before contributing to the conversation; it's clear that you haven't - what you've posted is already explained in detail and is incorrect. You still lied about it in your post if your gonna try and calm a riot don’t lie to the people we could kill this brand if we all wanted to so next time don’t be a liar and whats the -blam!-ing point of upvotes if they don’t matter cuz your stupid algorithms steal your posts
-
wow you are such a patriot. keep up the good work, papa bless

First they came for the socialists(Luna/nf), and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist(do not own luna/nf). Then they came for the trade unionists(whisper), and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist(do not use whisper). Then they came for the Jews(ace of spades), and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew(i don't ace of spades). Then they came for me(pve exotics)—and there was no one left to speak for me

the problem is bungie throttled exp so no one would believe you
-
Same logic flat earthers and moon landing deniers use.
-
Throttling forums now?:)

I don't get how people don't understand you. The forum has always been like this at least for the 3+ years I've been here. If anything, that post remained at the top longer than I expected it would because most start moving within a day or two. A lot of people are giving the ninjas hate for literally nothing. It must be hard.
-
Bungie should take care of their game, not the forum. Did you guys noticed that NO ONE believes you? Btw i know this doesn't bother you, or Bungie. Continue this and no one will buy Destiny 3 ( sry Destiny 2 DLC with new crap ).
-
yeah ofc .. and now u gonna tell us the earth is flat and bungie is doing a great job , also the mods

Wouldn't it make more sense for posts that receive the most traffic (upvotes/comments/etc.) on a daily basis to be shown in the top of trending regardless of age? It seems artificial to make older posts require MORE traffic to stay relevant than newer posts when we are talking about a post "trending."
-
Cozmo sead post trend by the amount of replies it it gets. Usually post that have heay traffic stays trending for a couple days especially when the others are not getting that attention. 3 days is the most I have seen popular post stay at the top before it starts dropping.

Edited by Spawn: 5/21/2019 5:06:11 PMWhat you're describing is how "Highest Rated" is designed to work (though it doesn't refresh daily I presume, I don't have the specifics on that). It ignores timestamps. Check my links below from Achronos on that system. And besides, speaking as someone who doesn't actually write code on these systems, just a volunteer to who understands how it works - I disagree. Having the same conversations stick to the top of the forums for everyone seems quite boring to me. I'd rather read and contribute in newer conversations. It's the same type of system on any other major platform, think reddit, twitter, social media etc. There are other systems in place for users that would like to continue that discussion on their own, like following a tag, saving direct links to threads and using the "Latest" sort instead is a better solution IMO. For the majority of individuals this keeps the top conversation fresh, but the content is never removed. People can always jump back in the conversations at a later date if they choose.
-
Then why does the highest rated tab show me posts with 10 or fewer likes, and not the post from a few days ago with 6,000+ likes?
-
^This is the kicker The rest makes sense but this makes none and is definitely rigged because its not adhering to its own nature
-
Edited by Spawn: 5/21/2019 3:49:11 PMI don't have specifics on "Highest Rated", but Achronos has mentioned it before in a couple of his posts over the years: https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/224370587?showBanned=1&path=1 https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/127128372?showBanned=1&path=2

So the system is if your post doesn’t take off in seconds it will be buried forever
I don't have specifics on "Highest Rated", but Achronos has mentioned it before in a couple of his posts over the years: https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/224370587?showBanned=1&path=1 https://www.bungie.net/en/forums/post/127128372?showBanned=1&path=2
But if it does take off, you have a maximum of 3 days before it's buried also. No wonder they don't like to respond. If it's not a subject matter they agree with it's 💯 gonna be flushed. They even Unpinned their Own discussion to they started and people keep stepping on it in hopes of a actual discussion. The ninjas may be doing their job competently but it doesn't mean the process isn't flawed or confused
-
what about highest rated filter, how does that one work? seems like all the post on the first page have just above or less than 10 up votes and not that many replies.
-
"Highest Rated" probably doesn't work as you expect, because the number you see next to a post is the number of upvotes of a thread, not its rating. The simple version is that everything starts with a rating of 50%, and is treated as having 10 "virtual" ratings. As "real" ratings come in, they replace that initial fake rating with something real. This prevents wild swings based only one or two real ratings. The downside of all of this is that you can't see the rating value that the component of Trending and Highest Rated, and this problem is compounded by the fact that those sorts are influenced by the number of replies and the age of the posts and replies. We've been thinking about polishing up the forum UI for this and other reasons, but haven't gotten around to it. To be clear, though, the moderators aren't the ones making your posts change sort order. That's just the sorting algorithm that all posts are equally subjected to. Spawn is basically correct, though: the forum is heavily biased to favor "new" content, with a preference toward new content being actively replied to, in both Trending and Highest Rated sorts. Because upvotes are so low-investment on the part of the reader and tend to have a "bandwagon" effect, it takes exponentially more upvoting and replies to keep a topic at the top of the sort the older it gets.
-
So all your tabs are broken pieces off shit that don’t work. at all are there any actual tabs that don’t -blam!-ing lie to you like the mods
-
Thank you for the explanation. I've always wondered what the "Highest Rating" meant.
-
So an individual person isn't pushing the post down, but Bungie is still pushing things down because it's Bungies algorithm. I don't think there's enough traffic on this forum to justify a 5 day trending policy.
