Thanos vs Joker: Most Quotable Villain

Thanos

Thanos' quotes: - Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe. But this… does put a smile on my face. - You have my respect, Stark. When I'm done, half of humanity will still be alive. I hope they remember you. - I know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right, yet to fail nonetheless. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives. - You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me. - The hardest choices require the strongest wills. I am...inevitable. - Going to bed hungry. Scrounging for scraps. Your planet was on the brink of collapse. I was the one who stopped that. You know what’s happened since then? The children born have known nothing but full bellies and clear skies. It’s a paradise. - Thanos: “Daughter.” Gamora: “Did you do it?” Thanos: “Yes.” Gamora: “What did it cost?” Thanos: “Everything.” Jokers quotes: - it's not about money...it’s about sending a message. Everything burns. - I believe, whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you...stranger. - Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was…a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn’t like that. Not one bit. So—me watching—he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it! Turns to me, and he says, “Why so serious, son?” Comes at me with the knife...“Why so serious?” He sticks the blade in my mouth…Let’s put a smile on that face. - Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! You know, I just...Do things. - Smile, because it confuses people. Smile, because it's easier than explaining what is killing you inside. - As you know, madness is like gravity...all it takes is a little push. - They Laugh at me because I'm Different. I laugh at them because they're all the same.

Both. They represent two different kinds of evil. Thanos is the Narcissist psychopath. Or “megalomaniac”. He sees himself as a god in his own universe and everything exists in relationship to himself. Metaphorically he is the Lucifer that rebelled against God. The Joker is the embodiment of chaos. That demonic essence that exist only to destroy and bring disorder to whatever it touches. Like the movie line from Alfred and Bruce Wayne struggles to find some motive to The Jokers actions. Alfred simply says, “Some men simply want to watch the world burn.” Some people go to auto races to see the crashes. Some go to hockey games for the fight. The Joker is that primal darkness. That malicious glee some of us take in destroying the work of others, or seeing it destroyed.

        • Joker imo, he’s nigh unstoppable because all he cares about is setting the world ablaze, and he does that by proving how fragile our humanity is. When he got Harvey Dent, Gotham’s White Knight to fall, he proved that the best of us can end up like the Joker.

Joker without a doubt. Although, Heath Ledger's version of the Joker was based more on Anarky than he was the Joker. At least in my opinion anyways. Also, the Joker does all of his hell raising without any powers or deus ex machina rocks.

              • If we are considering just live action movies I think thanos might win but if we add in the animated batman series with mark hamil as the joker I'd say joker wins.

                • Thanos made a good antagonist... But Joker is phenomenal, and in my opinion the single greatest example of how to construct an antagonist. No contest, imo.

                • Joker embodies chaos incarnate. Thanos embodies a holy man on a peaceful journey for others to live on. Of course though, both are -blam!-ing flawed as shit.

                • The only reason I remember any of what Thanos said is because it was insta-memed. Joker’s words were much more impactful. “Their morals, their code; it's a bad joke. Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. You'll see- I'll show you. When the chips are down these, uh, civilized people? They'll eat each other. See I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve.” “Choose between one life or the other: Your friend the District Attorney, or his blushing bride-to-be! [laughs as Batman punches him again] You have nothing to threaten me with! Nothing to do with all your strength! But don't worry, I'm gonna tell you where they are! Both of them, and that's the point. You'll have to choose.” “You won't kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness, and I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.”
