For those that do not know, OffTopic used to be known as The Flood. The 15th anniversary of The Flood is May 25, 2019.
Let's make a living memorial to The Flood and share a story of your favorite moment on this forum to celebrate its "life" as we come close to this anniversary.

4 RepliesThis subforum used to be -blam!-ing great. Not so much anymore, after 2/7/18 sent it back to the stone age. If Doob were still here I'm sure he'd be disappointed in what Offtopic has become.

5 RepliesI ‘member days when there would be Flood-specific writers, like Halifax, who would write stories about users in the Flood A memorable one was when they made the Flood a neighborhood and each thread was a house.

Honestly just finding the place. The first year on the forums I thought all there was to talk about was nerf this, and nerf that. I had no interest in the forums. Then I started seeing some weird posts. Seeming to be someone baiting. Followed the trail and next thing you know, I realize there's a whole other half of the forums having fun with all sorts of mayhem. As for specific events, well I feel like I'd just keep editing my reply till Offtopic was shutdown. Whole thing was a fun ride.

My favorite time period was 2012 to 2013 when Bungie went total radio silence during Destiny's development. This forum effectively had no moderation and it was down to less than 1000 users. Pretty much everyone knew who everyone else was.

Edited by Jono: 5/13/2019 8:50:09 AMFavorite memory was when a user exposed pictures of HFCS on The Flood and the hilarity ensued. I'm happy to be a part of history, through the good and bad memories. However let us remember those who went into the howling dark and did not return. Oh also, Shishka is still most definitely a pegboy.

1 ReplyWhoa, whoa! Wait a damn minute. Is the flood coming back? Wait another minute!!! If the flood is coming back, does this mean Bungie is back with Halo?! Is this why there's no gossip about D3? !!!!!

1 ReplyD1 off-topic was a fun place. I was too young to remember anything vividly, but it was a good time. I DO, however, remember saying "blink shotgun isnt skilless" in offtopic and getting called a desticle by at least 20 people

9 RepliesI remember the flood, they were fun enemies

This doesn’t necessarily have to do with the forums, but it was far more important than anything that has ever happened here ever. It was just over seven years ago, back when I had discovered the Bungie app. I used to use it to read all the TWAB and Breaking In articles, waiting for Soon™ to come and to bring with it all its details about Bungie’s new venture, irked by a certain urk’s frequent teasing. But there was another kind of teasing that grabbed my attention, and my life has never been the same since. Because, you see, it was just over seven years ago that the Bungie community was graced with a new community manager: DeeJ. Posted by urk became Posted by DeeJ, and I could never be happier. Imagine, for a moment, if the President of the United States were to replaced by Jesus Christ himself. Now replace the U.S. with Bungie, and make Jesus infinitely hotter. I was intoxicated, drinking in ever word he typed out with those beautiful, masculine DeeJ hands. I was enthralled by his impeccable writing, his heavenly command over the English language. I was in love. That was my most memorable memory of this site. How could it not be? I was shown the face of God, and he was perfect. Since then, I have devoted my life to loving DeeJ. Nothing more, nothing less.

6 RepliesEdited by dmbfan09: 5/12/2019 1:47:03 PMOne of my favorite moments here on The Flood happened in the summer of 2006. It was that summer I decided I wanted to run a game for The Flood that joined together many members as teams for one common goal. Thus was born The Floods Game of Diplomacy (the site's formatting is a little screwed up for this one, gotta scroll down to find the actual thread). 7 teams of 5 people a piece representing 7 countries. For this game, I created 7 separate private groups for each country to discuss strategy. I selected the original 5 members for each country (if people asked to play together, I kept them in the same country), and those 5 members selected a President of their country. The Presidents were then given administrator privileges for their respective group and could invite whomever they wished into their group. That's when the fun really started. The countries would make allies, enemies, and spies were born. The game lasted almost 2 months. Some countries were wiped off the map quickly, and others built up their supply centers. By the end, the country of Turkey ended up the victor. Turkey had spies in every country. As it turns out, Turkey was run by a group of members called "The Trolls." The Trolls were notorious for the thread "mulTiplayeR tOtaLLy rockS" in the Zanzibar (Halo 2 multiplayer forum). I became pretty good friends with The Trolls after that. Anyway, that is one of my favorite memories of The Flood.

My favorite moment when I joined offtopic was the Pringle’s moment with Dmg. Then Lee made a drawing which got us recognized and we expanded from then on.
