I really don’t know where to settle on this but after doing the mission and getting Outbreak I think I see the issue. (At least the issue in my opinion)
The issue is that it’s super easy to argue both ways. You see when I completed the outbreak mission I felt really happy because I had beat this difficult mission and claimed my reward.
But it was not fun. I was stressed out of my mind, sweating a lot and extremely anxious. It wasn’t fun it was just stressful. So I think the issue is the idea of Journey vs. Destination. The fact that while it is certainly more satisfying it is significantly less fun along the way. At least for some players.
Now I have no idea on whether or not to change the timer. What does come to mind is that it works like D1 nightfalls. If you wipe, you go to orbit. This would allow for the same risk of losing everything due to mistakes and miscalculations but instead of feeling rushed it feels slower. Both allowing for a more rewarding experience and the ability to actually explore the new space which is another thing Ive seen a lot of requests for.
If you read this far thank you! That’s just my two cents on the matter. Let me know what you think of my theory. And all of you have a good day.

Being able to just take your time exploring would be fun. Maybe just have a timer once you get to the final battle.

Timer should be for heroic only, for the catalyst. This seems like an extremely simple solution.

Write a book. Omg.

One of the reasons I hate being forced to play with others is the stress of failing. Either just having a bad day jumping or shooting and one fireteam kicking me then I gotta start over with another (happened yesterday after two runs, but -blam!- them. Got the gun, catalyst AND emblem with two cool dudes on second run on main account). I can play the game just fine. I’m not a machine nor care enough to be a god at it. I leave that to others so I can mock them.

36 RepliesEdited by Druppy: 5/11/2019 11:05:06 PMThe quest is not fair, everyone spent money to buy the game and ps plus( or xbox live) to play online. Excluding 1/2 the player base base on their skill level isn't right. Idc what some people on here say, just because you want to feel superior to other people. My idea Best 1. Remove the timer to get the weapon. Keep the timer for Heroic. 2. Extend the timer by 25 minutes. 3. Keep the timer the way it is but remove that maze, axe two of the fans and take out the first two jumping cra*. 4. Leave it the way it is. Make a separate solo quest for the rest of us ( i when i say solo i mean no gambit, no crucible in the steps, no fireteam needed). Real life is stressful enough as, you shouldn't feel stressed out in your escape. P.S. The Revelry wasn't fun because of the timer.. it was fun because of the stat boost, liberal use of the super and mass destruction. There people in there using bows... Don't let this timer cra* become a trend.

4 RepliesDoing a puzzle with a time limit is a bad idea

4 RepliesSpend an hour running through the same lost sectors that you have for years. Kill enemies you've been killing for years before the timer runs out. Yea, great content....

1 ReplyYeah, I agree. I have Whisper and Outbreak Perfected. I haven't done heroic yet, but I feel like the journey isn't as enjoyable as the destination. Bungie seems to equate suffering in a mission to being worth it for the reward, but it should be much more about enjoying the journey. They could have made it much more enjoyable getting to the end and making the end very challenging instead? I don't know. I'm sure they tried it a lot of ways, and the speed run community loves having the timer there to prove they did better than one another. But I do miss just having a very challenging mission but plenty of time to do it versus rushing and failing because I'm rushing.

What is Paramount to players? Journey or destination? It might become lesser of two evils if the journey isn't as enjoyable so much a stressful. This lies entirely in game design.

11 RepliesMore difficult does not = less fun. Some of us old school gamers live for the challenge.
-
Keep practice and don’t cheese timer Cheese timer = no skill
-
Why not just give people an opportunity to extend the time by shooting something
-
The wall hugging part is annoying on heroic. Everything else is fine

These missions would be fixed if they worked like The Sunrise Bounty in D1. You have a set time to beat it. If you dont, you dont get the reward but it doesnt kick u to orbit either. It allows you to finish the mission if u so choose.
-
I loved that mission, yeah the timer is a thing that you have to think about but if you don’t make it in time big whoop try again, that’s what makes it so satisfying to finish the quest is that you did something difficult and got it done fair and square. Stap using the cheese guys, much more satisfying to do it for real!

12 RepliesNo. Play the game. Use your thumbs. Stop crying.

1 ReplyYeah it was stressful , exciting and intense. That to me is a high point of d2 along with the whisper quest . I failed 3-4 times before I finally got it . I wouldn’t change a thing !
-
2 RepliesI agree enter the area to explore and practice the jumps without a timer but do not receive the reward until you beat the clock
-
1 ReplyNo, is like the whisper, you try adapt and overcome.
-
Play the game. The mission is easy. Quit asking for Bungie to dumb things way down to make it easier for you.

1 ReplyI think for this mission the timer is warranted. The gun is amazing and it deserved to have that type of challenge surrounding it. The mission itself is amazing and with practise you can get those finishing times down. I only felt strained on heroic, and my feelings felt similar to yours with regards to feeling rushed. But it was still a good challenge. The requirements for the void configuration did nothing for me...so i’ll be completing the catalyst in 4 weeks. Most activities don’t need timers...but I feel that this mission definitely warranted it. It was a good challenge. The normal mode you have to try. Heroic, you have to try a little harder.

1 ReplyI never had a glaring issue with the timer. Whether the timer is a lame difficulty addition or not, at least there was something to encourage you to improve.
-
3 RepliesSome people relish the chaos, some don’t. I wasn’t that affected by it, I do love the sense of control being lost for a moment, it gives the rush. Still though, it’s a powerful weapon, it shouldn’t be an easy win.
-
2 RepliesIn terms of Whisper and Outbreak I completely understand the timer and the difficulty. In that setting the timer works. Yes It's stressful because it should be. You should be sweating for it. Its the challenge that makes the reward and completing it worth it. Now D2 vinilla Nightfall hoop jumping or box shooting timer crap was dumb and removed you from the action. Big difference between the two.
-
2 RepliesYes it creates a sense of urgency. Keep pushing and you’ll overcome it. Learn the map and build your attack plan. Then just try it, and try to do it faster and faster. So far it seems the only LFG fireteams for Zero Hour in existence always contain a minimum of one person who either has no clue or is barely over light 650
-
Just got done with 3 runs with my brother and nephew. have not got it yet but will get there. I feel bad for people who dont have friends to play with. i can see this is not a good quest to try to LFG unless you KWTD. I went in a few times solo, got as far as I can and then by our first run I felt pretty confident we just had to learn the rest. having fun leave the timer. if anything make a firewalled version so people can run the quest for fun but not the gun.
