All I want is a goddamn cigarette

Kids, you may hear lots of jokes about hitting Blunts and s***. But don't ever start smoking it's so not worth it
>be me. Context time... I started smoking when I was 19 I was a freshman in college and I was a terrible student at this particular conservatory. Won't tarnish their name. It's a prestigious school and I genuinely liked most if not all of my professors and colleagues... Save a few elite musicians that were just too weird to talk about in this moment... maybe later. I associated with a looser crowd, more of the Jazzy and theater types... they all smoked.I gave in to pure curiousity, the first time I smoked... It has proven to be the biggest boneheaded decision I have made since, I make long attempts to quit and I succeed for a time, but I succumb to my addiction in moments of self doubt, in moments of extreme stress, and sometimes when I just get too drunk and say EHHH, I'll just have one cigarette... and then the night goes on and I have not one but 2, 3 , maybe 4 if me and my best buddy (we'll call him Greg) are really getting wild... not a something I make a habit of but you get the picture. And before I know it I'm back where I was convincing myself slowly and surely to buy a pack and keep the withdrawals away... If you have any sense after reading this and you have not smoked... just don't; please don't- I don't know you, but if you put any stock in the advice of a passing stranger in a strange land to you, Trust me.
• So I started smoking when I was 17. Between 17 and 34, I had tried pretty much everything to quit: nicotine gum, nicotine patches, nicotine lozenges, hypnotism (my mom and I both went to that, both of us kept smoking afterwards), and Chantix. Out of all of those, Chantix had worked the best. It gave me pretty -blam!-ed up dreams, but after a week I didn't want to smoke. I didnt want a cigarette the whole time I was on Chantix, and I felt great. The problem is, you eventually stop taking the pill and you must rely on your willpower. Well, my willpower broke a couple months after I stopped taking the drug and my wife and I were walking around Philadelphia hitting up wine bars on her birthday. We caved and bought "one pack of cigarettes just for tonight." I ended up back at a pack a day for the next two years. At 34, I decided to try quitting again. At this point, electronic cigarette were getting more popular and I figured I'd give that a shot. My plan was to quit smoking cold turkey and go as long as possible without nicotine. When I finally reached my breaking point (I know all smokers know what in talking about, that point in time where you say, "-blam!- it, I'm buying a pack!), I started vaping. The feeling you get from vaping is not the same as from the first cigarette after not smoking for awhile, but it takes the edge off and also gives you the mental fix of inhaling and exhaling a "smoke." I had stuck with just vaping and not touching a cigarette for 6 months after that. On Christmas Eve that year, I had been drinking and decided to bum one of my wife's cigarettes (she was still smoking at the time). I took two drags of that cigarette, hated the way it tasted, and put it out. That was 4 years ago and I haven't touched a cigarette since. I still vape. And yes, I realize that is trading one vice for another, but I know that vaping doesn't make me feel as shitty as smoking did and I'm not getting mysterious illnesses. This way of "quitting" isn't for everybody, but it worked for me. For all the people that don't smoke, don't ever start smoking cigarettes or vaping. Just look at all the shit (and money) I went through just to attempt to quit. It's idiotic and you'll regret ever doing it, please trust me.

Have been smoking 25 years, last 6 years on and off, more on than off. I smoke the greenery too and would use nicotine patches, and bong the greenery whilst on the patches, but boy do i enjoy a spliff. Always avoided vaping because knowing what I'm like with nicotine, (easily do 75g of baccy a week) i thought i would just chain the vape, but caved 2 weeks ago and bought one. Have to say it's been the easiest way for me so far, and I've literally tried them all, took me a while to get the mix right, but it ticks all the boxes. Tried a cigarette yesterday out of curiosity and couldn't finish it as it tasted so rank after the vape. Unfortunately here in the uk we can't get thc vape oil like you can in the states, so I've been using the CBD vape oil as well, not anywhere near the same as smoking a spliff, but it'll suffice for now, and is ok for pain relief. Vaping is definitely worth a try.

          • I just recently quit drinking, so I still smoke. I enjoy smoking so I'm not in a hurry to quit anytime soon. One day maybe. Been smoking for a few years now

          • Truth right here. My father smoked cigarettes and coupled with vascular disease has lost his foot as a result. The tobacco industry has been killing people for over a century, yet marijuana is still illegal. I wonder why...

          • Wish I could give advice but the only thing I'm hooked on is coffee. I know a few buddies of mine vape. Not sure if it's an improvement but it might be a step forward since I don't think it has all that junk cigarettes have in them. Might be wrong, but I saw a few comment mention them so maybe?

              • I averaged out the amount of money I'd have spent in my life on ciggys and greenery a couple years back..the figure obviously wasn't dead accurate... but it was still depressing as hell. Lets just say it wasn't a small number 😐

                • All these posts about how trying to quit smoking is horrible. Just re-affirms my decision to never start, or take drugs, or even drink alcohol much if at all.

the first step to quitting is admitting you have a problem so I just refuse to admit that I have a problem

                          • 23 years and never smoked a single thing. Both of my parents and my brother smoke. So many years of breathing in secondhand on top of allergies every spring and summer. It's hell. I support my family on trying to quit but they just can't seem to stop. My uncle passed away from lung cancer a few years back, I barely had a chance to get to know him. School started later that year and I slammed a dudes face into his desk for trying to get me to start smoking. Broke his nose and nearly got suspended. I was let off because of the recent passing and my clean record. I couldn't put myself through that kind of hardship, I can find other ways to lose stress. Don't lose hope and keep trying to break free from it. I don't know how it feels and I will never know.

No. No you don’t want a cigarette.
YOU WILL NOT SMOKE
You can do this man. Here are some budget(and likely unhelpful) tips that I know for breaking addictions: Make a calendar of 15 days, just with boxes. Color them in with a highlighter after you make it through a day successfully. Pretty calendar doesn’t want to get ruined, right? Make a journal- document how you feel on day 0(relapse day), day 1, day 2, and watch how you improve and how far you’ve come. Remember the flatline- you’ll feel great for a bit, then absolutely awful for an indeterminate time. But it will pass. And once that time passes, you will be on top of the world. Don’t slack. If the thought of even thinking about relapsing(buying a pack, or whatever) comes into your head, ignore it and move on(distract yourself with something better). If you give any ideas of relapsing any chance to latch on, you will inevitably fail. Stay strong!

                              • Biggest mistake I ever made was taking up smoking. In Australia especially the prices are through the roof and I’ve easily spent $4k since July 2017 on the habit. That shit could’ve gone on good car parts but dart addiction is insane.
