Account Restricted for not having lots of money

Played competitive for long hours last night. Finally got to heroic 3 and was excited. Solo que has been a long and hard grind (loses and wins coming in blocks). Very close to getting my recluse/Luna's howl so I call it a night (morning) and get some sleep. About to leave to do adult and what not and wanted to check where xur is. Log in to "Your account is restricted for the next 2 weeks for (unstable connection)". Here are some fun facts: I live in the middle of the country, where I have the best internet package offered (5mbs download). I had purchased an Ethernet cable earlier in the day and ran a hard line to my console and friends noticed I was very stable with no issues or delays in audio, video or gameplay responses. No connecting to destiny messages, no reconnecting messages where you have to reload into a map, no disconnects. I wasn't abusing lag for wins. I think my match history shows off how many times in a row I got crushed. I run a PS4 classic with no extra software or hardware. Now let's talk other modifiers: I've met ridiculous amounts of petty people on this game. I've seen people seed my friends report notifications for absolutely no reason. Most of the teams I played against where premades and all it takes is a suggestion and a sore loser to get him and his friends to send 2-4 reports at a person. I experienced no lag last night but did experience people I killed coming back to teabag me. But we're getting off subject. So I present to you my argument: How is it fair that I payed the same price for the game, just to be restricted from my favorite activity in the game because my "connection is unstable"? I literally can not do anything to improve it. I'm running a Hardline, I have ports forwarded and I have the best net available to me. How is it morally acceptable to completely remove a player from an activity they enjoy when they did not violate any terms of service without an in depth summary of what keyed them into the decision? I'm open for anyone at bungie to contact me and explain in detail and how, why and or how to avoid this again, but they won't. All I'll get are "mentors" that will simply link the bans and restrictions page. So if you planned to do that, please pass on by. I want legitimate answers. Edit: I'm open for a discussion, not people posting "sux2beu" or justification on 2 weeks of restriction is a reasonable action for having a slower connection. The main point is that is a harsh penelty for something that most people are doing the best they can and it's all they can do.

  • 5g should be coming soon and that should solve your problem. I however don't believe I should be forced to play with people who have bad internet connections. I pay extra money for a fast and stable connection. Why should my experience be degraded by people who have a decade old internet connection? What's fair for me is not fair for you but such is life and capitalism.

  • Fact of the matter is whether it's your fault or not, playing with a person that has an unstable connection is detrimental to the experience of all parties involved

  • Have you tried running an extended line test? Give that a go and see if it uncovers some instability in your connection. The only other thing that springs to mind is changing your DNS to that of Googles. I dont know how it helps, but a friend of mine who is a networking whiz suggested it in a megathread he made about connection optimization on the CoD forums way back when. As for whether its fair etc... its either you, or the other 7 to 11 players who suffer. Its not hard to see which way Bungie will sway on that. Its also perfectly possible to lag balls without actually realising it. Its happened to me a few times - once due to "Traffic Management" from my ISP, other times my router shat the bed and needed to be powercycled.

    • I understand your pain, I used to have trash internet. Here are some things you can do... 1-shut down all other devices on your router 2- reset your modem and router before every session If that doesn’t help, -if possible use your mobile hotspot (it will likely outperform your internet) -get a router that can geofilter, if you are only playing with nearby hosts it will help

    • Its sucks to live in an area with crap internet. Most games use dedicated servers so your bad internet can only negatively affect you but with p2p servers like what destiny has, bad internet will affect other players as well and you can gain an advantage. It was a very greedy decision for bungie to opt for p2p servers but banning/suspending players with consistently bad internet is the right move.

    • Sadly you might have a solid connection in your eyes but connections can vary. ISPs can vary , outages outside your control can create havoc on connections. All of this can be upstream from you and not very noticeable. Nothing you can do now. What I would do is call your isp and tell them to run a diagnosis on your service .

    • It may seem as though you're stable when playing but but it possibly doesn't seem that way to other players hence all the tea bagging. I guess if enough people report you get banned. It's not fair that you cant do anything about it but also it's not fair for others having to play against you if you're lagging.

      • How was your connection before you ran the hard-line? The restriction wasn't likely based on 1 day. Your matches for the last few months would be more likely.

        • While I agree it can be frustrating playing against a lagvy player it seems a 2 week ban right out the gate is a bit extreme. I could understand a 1 or 2 day ban so the player can address the issue. As others have pointed out, you don't always know you're lagging, or not as much as you may think. A short ban would give someone the heads up to fix the problem like it seems this guy has tried to do with the hardline connection. Additionally, the service agreement doesn't explicitly explain the lengths of bans or what it considers a slow enough connection to warrant a ban. I think Bungie should review the criteria for banning and give players shorter ban periods intially as a warning rather than a big one out the gate, that's how you lose players and, in turn, revenue. Just my two cents on the matter.

          • I have a better idea put all laggers in a separate matchmaking so they get to lag against each other. Or as soon as you hit 70+ ping you can't move or shoot and just get farmed.

            • It is extremely fair, laggers impact other peoples game negatively. It is not fair for you to rubber band around the screen. Restriction is completely justified

              • Hey, I got banned today for the same reason. See my post on the feedback forum. I am with you 100%. Very unfair and disappointed. They should refund our money.
