We need a Story mode Raid option, Revelry PvP puts things into perspective.

Look at the feedback and frustration of people not being able to play a certain game mode, simply because it doesn't suit their playstyle. This is exactly the reasoning why Raids should be more inclusive, and have a Story mode "tutorial" option with matchmaking, for those who just want to experience the Story, which may further entice them to seek out people to play with to earn Raid loot. Then perhaps learn the mechanics with a first hand experience, rather than watching someone's flawed explanation in a video, or sherpas leaving out why we're doing what we're doing and just telling people what to do without context. "Why don't you just watch a Raid video for the story?" You might say. Well, why don't you watch a video of other people playing Revelry Crucible? Edit: This should be a option for future Raids. I understand it would be daunting task to implement something for past Raids with no unforeseeable benefit. This needs to be in D3, you can only benefit by having a Tutorial mode for Raids: •Remove revive tokens, enrage and just have the normal 5 second timer. •Have waypoints and summaries of what to do in the top left corner like any other mission in Destiny. •You can select your checkpoint like Last Wish. •Tutorial mode would unlock after World's First completion so everyone will have something to root for.

  • There’s literally an LFG right here on this app. I have 42 Last Wish and 42 Scourge clears. I do not have a set Raid team save for one or two guys I occasionally LFG with. But I always have 3-6 LFG blueberries at any time. If you don’t know what to do there are literally sherpas who teach people. That is their thing it’s what they do. My first Spire of Stars (arguably the most mechanic heavy Raid) was with four other people who knew nothing and one Sherpa. Just my two cents. I know people disagree but it’s right there.

For a long time, I agreed with matchmaking in Raids. But for most people, the reality would end up being a nightmare. Most times when I solo a strike, I get 2 decent - good partners that will work the strike as a team and complete. But about 30% of the time, I get at least 1 person on the team that either sits still, does ridiculous stuff that is counterproductive to completing the strike, or just leaves. People would encounter a lot more of that trying to get a team of 6 together for a raid, which is a lot more complex than a strike, and it requires some form of communication and coordination from a team. Even LFG formed teams run into this, and most of those are semi-vetted before starting. Just setting up the criteria for it would set it up to fail. I think that the success rate of matchmade teams would not be high. I make that prediction/speculation based on my own experience with raiding. I am a decent raider, but definitely not a top tier raider by any means. I have 162 raid completions in D1, and 62 total completions in D2, and that is not very many at all, especially compared to better skilled raiders. But it is enough to know how an average raid team functions, and while some better, more skilled raiders can get on LFG and run with a group of similar experience raiders and clear every level on first attempts, matchmade teams will not be so refined or vetted. Guided games was an attempt at some semblence of this, and I haven't seen a lot of positive feedback on this. (But, I will admit that my exposure to the failure/success of guided games has been mostly through feedback on the forums, and not any sort of hard-ish data. And the forums are not exactly a wellspring of positive feedback about anything. LOL ). But my speculation is that the idea of matchmaking in raids is far more appealing than the reality of it, were it to be implemented. Not trying to piss on anyone's parade, but in my opinion, matchmaking in raids would more frustration than success. If they ever implement it and it is a roaring success, and I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit it. Now, on tutorial mode, that would be a great idea, and it might something that would have benefited the raid teams that I have played on. It would not lesson any measure of team coordination or communication. It would just help reduce the necessity of going to YouTube to find a tutorial of what the mechanics are in a raid. Make the tutorial active after a couple of days of the raid's release to allow those players/teams that really enjoy trying to figure the raids out on their own. Once a few teams have accomplished that, open the Tutorial mode. To code in a tutorial mode would be a monster of a task, but I would find that to be a better application of resources than creating an event that has players working for vanity items that don't last past the event itself. But that is just my opinion.

    • Either that or re-vamp guided games. The concept was good, but with the ridiculous wait times, it did not succeed. Instead of guided games, have match making with waypoints and automatically enable voice chat.

    • What if you got a random npc fireteam to run it with you in a reduced difficulty so solo players can go through the raid as part of the story. It wouldn't give endgame loot but allow players who otherwise cannot get a group, be it clan or lfg a chance to experience the story arks like the rest of the players. Some don't have the time or availability for raids like other players so they never get that experience. It gives them a chance to practice with the raid mechanics as well.

    • So pretty much have raids as part of the story campaigns? Basically forcing people to do them?

I have to disagree. It defeats the purpose of the raids entirely. They’d be incredibly hollow if you stripped them of the challenge. Shit, you knew the game was going to have a strong focus on raids. You knew it was going to revolve around reaching an endgame. Not everything has to cater to everyone. That’s part of the reason people didn’t like Destiny 2 as much as the first title. Bungie tried to make it a bit too accessible and tossed out what little depth there was.

        • Alright, let me clarify. This tutorial mode will not diminish the difficulty of Raids whatsoever. Unsure why it would, because it doesn't let you solve the puzzles and figure things out for the first yourself? Then don't go into the tutorial story mode. Rewards will be stripped from the mode, so Normal Raiding is actually significant and reserved for Fireteams. The story mode will only be for learning and story purposes (hiding collectables and Easter eggs within the Raid for you to figure out the meaning behind or a continuation of the campaign) Look I'm not against the challenge of the Raid, nor am I trying to "take away" from the achievement. I simply want to explore the lore. The direct equivalent would be the D1 Grimoire concept, and then we got that in D2 with the lore books because the Grimoire was not in-game and everybody wanted it to be more accessible. Same concept.

        • I like the idea of Kingsfall and Last Wish having the campaign lead up to the raid. I will say that D1 has the best raids, KF being lenient with since it’s mostly the length that kills people (especially if they’re not too wise). I believe what you seek would be a normal difficulty, then heroic/prestige for the tri hards

Why? Raids are what they are: a mode reserved for fireteams? Why does everything needs to be handed out to people who are too lazy/don't want to take part in socialising? Solution: stop playing a SHARED WORLD shooter which heavily focuses on COOP aspects then. This community always asks for stuff no other community, like WoW, would even think about to request. A Raid is a Raid and part of the universe/lore. Therefore NOT one but a whole bunch of guardians completed them. No need to dumb down activities IMO. Not to mention it would cost time and effort. Amd Bungie obviously works on D3 by now.

          • I thought of this same thing a little while ago, was playing strikes and thought that they would make good story missions, same with raids. easier versions of cooperative activities, cool concept but it would never happen.

          • Difference with your “watch crucible” argument and “watch raid videos” is the crucible doesn’t have any story to it.

          • My man..... what story? I have around 30 leviathan clears.... no clue where it came from, why it’s there..... Spite of stars.... don’t even know the bosses name. Whatever the name of the one between them was.... all I know is I have to kill a hydra with simons says shields. In short, there basically is no story to experience. Further, the only really appeal to the raids is a sense of challenge. You take that away and it’s a strike. On top of that you would simply be ruining mechanics of the raid with what you suggest.

            • So it’s for people just want to experience the story? The story that usually consists of a few lines of dialogue, some very slight visual storytelling, and a load of lore tabs on times? People don’t need a new game mode for that. They can just watch someone play the raid and read the lore tabs. Your point about the crucible makes no sense, because no one (Or at least no one sane) plays crucible for the story mode aspect of it.

              • I really like the Failsafe wish dialogue! Failsafe should have been your Ghost's failsafe Ai when we lost the light. From the trailers/early reveals of D2 they all seemed to suggest this as the story of us reclaiming our light. Funny as they then did this in Osiris with Sagira

              • Yeah i always thought something like this would be pretty neat, a story/tutorial mode allowing for a better introduction to raiding. Really don't get why people are against this? Obviously all the special raid gear would be exclusive to the normal mode

                • The caveat to this would be that the loot pool would need to be significantly reduced, if not removed altogether, for the tutorial mode. Say if you were to do the Leviathan with the tutorial mode, only Calus would drop anything at all, and it would be a weekly soft cap drop. Otherwise it'd be way too easy to farm the tutorial mode for free loot. The tutorial mode should give you a small taste of the experience and loot, prompting you to play the raids for real.

                  • Id rather have longer strikes like this or ones like d2 than have these in raids tbh. Raids are pinnacle fireteam events. Juicing it out like this shouldn't have the access to the raid gear tbh or at least it with perks.

                    • Isn't it a bit... Unnecessary? I see raids as a journey of endgame discovery, not something to be straightforward and handed out. Now, if we do actually talk about this, it would be a good idea to have some sort of instructional video like for the Titans in Titanfall 2, but not just hand out the encounters, but more like vaguely familiarizing you with the encounters such as pointing out specific spots where things are without actually giving away the gist of the fight, maybe short text showing the name of the highlighted thing and maaaaaybe a very short descriptive hint as to what it does.

Remember how on games like Mario Kart, if you were doing time trials you would get a ghost of your best lap time? Bungie could look into doing something similar...each member of the fireteam gets a certain ghost to follow and copy in order to learn the mechanics. Call it a training raid with lower difficulty so people can figure out what they need to do, before entering the much harder raid where things got much more challenging. Maybe this would be held back until a certain percentage had completed the raid, so there can still be the fun of figuring it out and getting world's first for those to whom it matters, but I think this would go a long way to getting more people raiding. Edit: pretty much like the Panoptes fight in CoO, where Osiris literally tells you step by step what to do.

                      • Fifa 17 has a training option while playing where your basic button controls show up above your head. Anything more than that would be too obtrusive imo , and I think that would in itself be useless. The only compromise I can see being worth considering would be an extremely easy mode, where the mechanical elements light up in a semi obvious way to help people figure it out. The better option in my opinion is in game lfg. The fact that there's not a real social space where you can actually interact socially has never made sense to me.
