Red legion technology compared to the scout legions

(nr legions means scout legions/d1 cabal) So simple topic, the red legions technology compared to the legions in d1. The red legion is supposed to be world conquerors, the unbeatable cabal war machine but it seems like some of their tech is worse the the scout legions especially the shields of the phalanx but i get it. So starting off with the phalanx, nr legion phalanxes have indestructible shields that mainly protect one person which I can get that flaw is a reason why the red legion gave up indestructibility for being able to cover multiple troops but really? Why have your shields weak point right in the middle of your shield where a small amount of concentrated fire leaves your phalanx stunned and anyone standing behind them open to damage.
intermission
the red legion thresher some what confuses me because I get it's supposed to be like a fast moving vehicle that can go in, shoot some missiles, kill folks, then fly out but why not plate this thing like they do harvesters since harvesters are immune to most types of normal fire, and it's not like the threshers move much faster then harvesters, and that's with harvesters having presumably heavier armor and cabal troops with cabal themselves weighing tons not including their gear, so if you have to siege planets, including one with space magic wilding people who literally shoot giant purple bombs and electric fist and flaming bullets out of them, you think they'd try to have everything survive as long as possible cause I'm sure all these military vehicles of the cabal ain't cheap.
intermission
So war beast and to a lesser extent gladiators. The war beast seem sorta pointless for war conquerors since the red legion would conquer most of a planet and steal the resource then blow it up or just blow it up, while war beast would serve a purpose similar to have they were used early game d2, as a way to hunt down surviving guardians to flee but for most cases I see the war beast being more useful for the nr legions as sorta trackers and guard dogs but eh. Gladiators I don't like em but I can see their purpose same with the different phalanx shield, gladiators only wield two swords...so tell me how they pose much of a threat or purpose when your conquering planets and most likely besieging structures? Like they don't carry bombs or anything that could actually help besides being a meat shield. They could be good ambushers to attach reinforcements or something but actually helping to conquer a planet I don't see much usefulness in them, I don't even see much usefulness in them if you put them in the nr legions. Ok me rants done

  • I mean I guess I understand what you're saying, but whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

    • Remember Gladiators in the Beta? They were absolute tanks that took a couple of shotgun shots to take down at close range. Back when Shotguns were Heavy Weapons

      • Well, you also have to look at effeciency as well as effectiveness. While the Scout Leigons phalanx sheilds might have been better, they still take up a ton of that metal that i presume the Cabal use for most other things, such as armor, ships, and weaponry. By switching to an energy based shield, you can end up saving a lot of resources. For example, if you could choose between 100 Scout Leigon phalanxes or 100 Red Leigon phalanxes and a Thresher, which would you choose? To me, it seems obvious that the Red Leigon option is better because, while you might have inferior troops, you can save enough resources to build a whole extra ship. As for threshers, there may be other factors that you are not taking into account, like resources or aerodynamics. Like I said above^^ the Cabal use that metal plating for many aspects of their war machine, so they need to save as much as possible so every troop can have good, reliable gear. Also, I do not think you could just slap some more plating on a thresher and expect it to function just as well. You might have to make many more adjustments if you do want to add extra plating, which might just end up making the thresher perform worse than before. As for War Beasts and Gladiators, the Cabal are not a genocidal warfaring race like the Hive. In addition to conquering planets, they also need to hold them. This is where Gladiators and War Beasts come into play. By having tough, melee-focused troops, crowd control and scare tactics to force a population into docility. I think they use melee weapons for the smae reasons that riot police have sheilds and batons. If you want to control a population, especially through fear, you must get in their face and always have a present, dangerous force near them. While a Bronto Cannon or Shotgun might be more effective at killing or battling, the Gladiator knives are way fiercer and controlling option.

The Red Legion use War Beast scales for their uniforms. I am wondering what property makes War Beast scales preferrable?
