Why D2 comp is an unfun and uncompetitive experience and what bungie should do to fix it

Comp is arguably the most controversial subject in D2 right now. But why is it so terrible, and what can bungie do to fix it? (Not that they're listening anyways) 1. Lack of Dedicated Servers. Do you enjoy losing a ton of glory and your win streak because bungie's servers do an oopsie? I sure don't. No bungie, it's not on my end. Every other game I play, and every other device I have connected to the internet, works perfectly fine. Its only Destiny that spits out error codes for me (albeit rarely). Stop beating around the bush and give us dedicated servers. 2. Leavers Give harsher leaver penalties. If the game detects that you pulled out your ghost and held that orbit button down to gtfo, you should be severely punished for it. "But what if I'm put into a 1v4?" This brings me to the next point. 3. Matchmaking Idk how you managed to have a slow matchmaking system that still exclusively spits out uneven games, but you did it. Matchmaking takes forever and 99% of the matches are blowouts. Also, 1v4s. These usually happen because people leave right as the matchmaking stops. Comp games should end if it detects an uneven game before the players even touch down. 4. Balance I don't know what to say. Destiny has such poor PvP balancing that it makes any "Comp" game mode more of a joke than an activity. Heavy spawns ridiculously often. Supers are spammed constantly with neutral setups unable to even think of challenging them. Suicides don't count as a point loss in clash or control. Spawns are horrible, with dying to the same enemy (usually in a super) twice before even regaining control of your character being a common occurrence. Tonics. This isn't even mentioning the guns themselves. It's such a complete mess that i dont even know what the first step would be towards correcting it. You've dug yourself into a deep, deep hole. Nice going. EDIT: I just got matched against the same group 3 times in comp. Bungie should be ashamed for how utterly terrible their matchmaking is.

  • Scrap comp Bring back original 3v3 elim Trials. Comp= 99% of matches decided in matchmaking —how exactly is that competitive? Might as well save the players time and simulate how long it will take for each player and award accordingly. Then we wouldnt have to waste our time playing.

    • I don't mind it but some of the game modes are... well.. just dumb. Control? Idk how many times i've lost to a team while we were out slaying them and they all went negative but they managed to keep control of zones due to either heavy or chaining supers... kind of just a cheesy game mode to be honest.

      • Your first mistake was ever taking PvP seriously for Destiny. It's NEVER going to be truly competitive. They just created another game list and slapped that name on it. I could put a Ferrari sticker on my Tundra, but it's still a Tundra. If it was a serious competition mode, it would be fireteam only. It would have a separate set of gear that is just used in that mode.

        Losses take away too many points and just bad teammates, rng determines whether or not u win depending on what teammates your given. That’s y so many ppl 4 stack

        • Destiny is simply not competitively designed. There is almost no way to make it such. Trials always had its problems, barely ever perfect.

        • You were matched more than once because the player numbers have dropped. I was matched with a 2 stack for 3 games yesterday and was happy as 1 player was truly awesome lol. Bungo programmers it seems are incapable of doing some things. They could add the Overwatch type protection but I think they are incompetent and unable to do this effectively I would like to see progress level lock. So irritating to keep going up then lose points at no fault of your own due to matchmaking or quitters

        • In overwatch, if someone leaves or gets disconnected on the first minute of the game, the match ends and no one but the guy that left gets penalized. Thats exactly how it should be

            • Maybe loss penalties should be based on contribution and not a collective punishment Example: leaderboard placement = loss penalties 1st: -10 2nd: -20 3rd: -30 4th: -50 Not to say these are the numbers I would choose just an idea

              • remove loss penalty and then no one will care about "leavers" or the other shit since people only play comp for the rewards. Once they get them no one goes back to comp.

              • The main problem with trying to fix the issue of balance is that it is impossible to do in destiny so long as it tries to do things like mix PvP and PvE. In other words by the very nature of the game it will never be all that well balanced. Other games have a far easier time with balance because everyone is on an even playing field when it comes to equipment, everyone has the exact same stuff, and all the gear is static. This makes changing a particular piece of gear to rebalance it far easier. Destiny by its very nature will never have a well balanced PvP system, unless they decide to just completely abandon this idea of random items in PvP, and brining your stuff in from other activities. Many will argue that this system is a core part of destiny, and that is fine, so long as you understand that this inherently means that PvP being unbalanced goes along with it and also becomes a core part.

              • They need to turn off tracking for all launchers, and limit supers. The meta is too often super rolling, I've been in matches against objectively weak players who leave them selves open, lose one v ones, but then the second half of the match is just an unending wall of supers and given it's extremely hard to shoot you out of a super it kinda just cheapens things.

              • i dont get the point point of Bungie's "Competitive" Playlist, comp is basically a bunch of people behind cover sniping each other with Ace & Not Forgotten till some1 runs out of Revives, like what the fcuk is so competitive about that???

                      Additionally; -Removal of vostok and meltdown from comp or at least removal of countdown mode for those maps. It should be competitive. Spamming wardcliff coils and chaining supers are not competion
