I've gotten 0 to 1% from doing strikes from the director. 1 to 3% from doing them from the strike playlist and 5 to 6% from doing a Nightfall. When I finished 40 strikes for the Service Revolver, I was at 63%. (I had not done any Nightfalls at that point) Off topic, but for what it's worth, I hate this pecentage based completion objective. It's not consistent, and with Bungies past "doctoring" of XP, I dont trust that it's a fair system. If they want me to do 70 strikes, then just tell me I have to do 70 strikes. Or 80, or whatever the intended grind is.
