No the kid with the gun is the dumbass, the kid that reported did the right thing.
The kid made a real threat, he needs help. Just ignoring the gun because it doesnt look real is stupid, you can make a working gun that looks like that on a 3d printer that is good for 1 shot, and one shot is all it takes to kill someone.

The kid needs help, it is not normal to tell a friend not to go to school and send a picture of a gun, and any parent that thinks otherwise should not be a parent.
