Why would you let the Reveler's Tonic in Competitive?

What's the point of making Reveler's Tonic have an effect while playing competitive? I know saying 'comp is shit' is overdone, but what's the point in trying to play competitive if everyone's just using the increased recharge rate for homing grenades and nova warp grenades? It's not even remotely fun to do.

  • Wouldn’t it be interesting to see how Comp has changed in the past week+ with respect to the player base? I was lucky enough to hit Fabled the week prior to Revelry, but if I was still chasing it, I would absolutely stay away and not set foot in that game mode until the Revelry finished. I bet however, there are some who may see this as an opportunity to level the field a bit and have jumped into Comp when they would not have previously. After all, it takes no skill to spam skips all day long and some may believe they can just grenade spam their way to Fabled in these 3 weeks. I just wonder if Bungie really left tonics in Comp because they truly couldn’t separate it between the Crucible modes or if they had some thought that leaving them in may actually bring other people into the game mode. If more people had those pinnacle weapons, the nerf noise would quiet down. If they could get other people to like and play the game mode, it may help mask their matchmaking shortcomings. Is know this is some tinfoil hat shit, but was a thought that just crossed my mind.

  • Co signed. The only thing I play at this point is pvp and I’m not going to play against grenade spamming and constant invis. Done with destiny until this is gone.

  • Kinda like how pinnacle weapons are breaking PvP in general? Ideally there should be no meta. The goal should be "skill against skill alone." I'm not great at PvP but I liked PvP a lot more in D1 than in D2. Now I just think of it as something to be avoided. What's fun about everyone using the same loadout when there are so many weapons in the game? All pinnacle weapons are doing is widening the skill gap. You can't say the weapons don't make a difference when one has a .43s ttk and another 1.5s. Also, the Revelry is temporary.

      • The real problem with this event is just it allowing the tonics in competitive. The revelry tonics are totally fine in the other game modes where there's nothing at stake when losing. However, with competitive, you can lose progress that you worked for. When these events change the sandbox in such a way, it will ruin the competitive playlist. Take this event, grenade spam ruining any and all gunfight potential. Keep in mind we are playing a first person shooter, where shooting the guns you have is the gameplay. Grenade spam ruins the gameplay at it's core. You don't even have to physically see the enemy to get a kill. This event also being three weeks long, while also being confirmed that no fix will come in those three weeks because the servers will not allow it, means that the competitive playlist will be this way the whole time. To be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of getting spammed by shinobu's vow skip nades constantly, while also dealing with constant suppressor grenades removing the base functions of my character. Sure, the Luna's, dust rock, ward cliff meta is stale, but the best way to change that is to change the way guns work with the sandbox, not ruin the core gameplay aspects. Competitive is no longer, [b]competitive[/b] and will not be until this event is over.

        • Only real problem with it in comp is the face that arc souls from the new exotic gauntlets for warlocks can basically spawn infinite arc souls and its annoying as hell

        • Co-sign, this has been a terrible experience. Keep your Arbelest and revelry event if it was going to be like this. I'm exaggerating a little but I would love to hear the reasoning at Bungie to allow this tonic buff into competitive. I know Bungie gets a lot of unfair criticism but I can't imagine they actually thought this one through. The fact that you had Cozmo almost immediately recognizing this issue after revelry dropped highlights huge play testing holes or just detachment from the outside-the-bungie-bubble community on this. Was looking forward to a final push on the Recluse but now I'm only active in comp for the weekly bonus. If Bungie's plan was to get people out of crucible to play other game types, there's better ways to go about it.

            • Ok my last post was satire , but for real people .. Bungie came out and said they can't change it back.. that's a lie, they said the same thing when they took out SBMM , they claimed it couldn't be changed after it's original implementation was dubbed a bug .. Bungie is in a bit of a pinch, charging for an account recovery violates thier terms of service , difficult to detect , it's so bad that I've seen ads for LH on destiny tracker .. they have to do something , they have to mix up the meta to scramble these guys , gaming is widely unregulated and everyday more and more money is changing hands and and some point bungie will be facing off again consumer advocacy groups and possibly the government in court. This is just a reailty.. once money gets involved , things get real quick

              • Bungie overshot with Competitive. Honestly, at this point I feel they should have known better. There's a reason why we have a Mayhem playlist that only rewards Valor. They already realized the pitfalls of Mayhem Comp when the ranking system was created. They allowed It's concepts to seep into Comp anyway. It's a shame I have to wait 3 weeks to continue my Recluse grind. This event that can arguably be done in a week even by those who aren't dedicated. Eh, having started Forsaken + Annual the week before Crimson, I suppose a two week Destiny break couldn't hurt.

                • Because it should be clear by now, not sure why everyone is surprised that bungie clearly doesn’t care about there game when it comes to PvP that’s why the majority of good/hardcore PvP players left this game

                    • No kidding. I hope it gets disabled in PVP. I took a 3 month break from this game cause of how broken it was. Finally started playing again this week and I jump right into this spamming BS... I swear, I sometimes genuinely regret playing this game.

                        Started a new Character and as usual went into Crucible to quickly level up. It did not go well. New Character has to wait 3 weeks.

                          I only played about 4 matches today, and I lost two of them from the grenade spam. Long story short, I wasn’t very enthusiastic to back into crucible.

                        • I actually think its cool they did something to switch up the stale meta for a little bit, especially considering pvp is mostly what i do when i do play now and they havent added anything new since forsaken.

                          • Don't get me wrong, I'm not playing Crucible--I don't really enjoy it, and spamming grenades doesn't sound fun enough to change that--but maybe this is a chance for the people that aren't skilled at the handcannon/shotgun meta to actually get in there for 3 weeks and do some damage. I understand why that would be frustrating to people that play Competitive...competitively, but I don't think it's bad for Bungie to shake things up once in a while.
