When Bungie doesn't listen, exploits are profitable.
When Bungie doesn't listen, players get angry.
When Bungie doesn't listen, the game becomes boring.
When Bungie doesn't listen, players get tired.
I'll stop trying to tell a childish story, and get to the facts...
Bungie's community person, DMG_04, passed on word from the team that Enhancement Core bounties (because there's really no reason to do these bounties) are going to cost Glimmer instead of Gunsmith materials, and will offer only a singular core upon completion.
This led to, when people found the bug that allowed them to exploit thousands of cores from a single pinnacle weapon, it resulted in this: https://i.imgur.com/6Aitdgm.jpg (updated)
This is not photo shopped, this is a screenshot of a real player's inventory. Name blacked out for privacy reasons. It caused a desperation, the scarcity and absolute necessity of Enhancement Cores, that led to players exploiting it. I'm sure there are some players that would have stocked up on some, but not thousands. It's both seriously lucky of this player to now never have to worry about cores, but also seriously pisses me, personally, off.
You can't become so adamant about Cores, refusing to listen to proper feedback and ways to change cores, instead only the "gunsmith bounties" were introduced. That's just more grinding on top of more grinding that rewards are crap compared to the time players spend in the game.
Sure, there are some out there who have perfect RNG and get a single core or more from every dismantle or so. But not everyone has the luxury to me swimming in these stupid cores. It's has split the community in half, there are some players that will never masterwork gear or weapons because they spend more on infusing than ACTUALLY ENHANCING THE ARMOR. I myself, wait till there is a significant gap in light level to then infuse, and I'm still short. Then there are some players who can master work any weapon they damn well please.
With the time it takes to release an update, coupled with the lackluster responses (I suppose at least there is feedback going in an out of Bungie quicker now) from the dev team responsible for Cores, players are going to be less accepting of any future change. I said this in a comment to DMG_04's update.
Many many many players on these forums have given feedback with suggestions to possible changes the cores could be used for or how to acquire them. But no...said dev team involved just does "well...bounties?" instead of actually using the feedback provided. Bounties that, mind you, only have one less grind step than Spider Bounties. And that's combing the Tangled Shore for Ghost Fragments. THESE BOUNTIES STILL ONLY OFFER ONE SINGULAR.....SINGULAR....UNO...ONE...CORE. No one is asking for mod components, you can buy them from Ada. No one is asking for mods, because you can get them from dismantles as well as Banshee whenever he sells them. PEOPLE. JUST. WANT. CORES. FUNDAMENTALLY. CHANGED. So much so to the point people just are tired of them interfering with the game, and just want them removed entirely.
Not to mention the sheer satisfaction of getting to use your favorite gear AND bring it forward is MEANINGFUL to the players already without the need for cores.
tl;dr
Cores are interfering with the game, stop holding onto this idea of "meaningful infusion", and make some actual fundamental changes to Cores entirely, or just get them out of infusion and shove them back into the Masterwork Core concept space. It costs maybe 30-40ish cores to masterwork a piece of gear or weapon. It used to cost only 10. In this current state, cores are still as scarce as ever and are now required for infusion and now an exorbitant amount is needed for masterworking.

Reminder that cores being required for infusion in the first place is all because of streamers.
