Pulse rifles are effective at ridiculous ranges, especially on pc, who decided to "balance" the PvP so that a Blast furnace or Go Figure can touch the ranges of guns like Polaris lance, even on extremely open maps like equinox, people still choose pulse rifles over scouts.
This is why Bungie needs Play testers that are active in the community, they don't know what they're doing.

If you're getting outgunned by pulses on Equinox while using Polaris, you're either way too close or just missing shots. inb4 butthurt; just saying what you think is "max range" isn't max range
-
They do more damage than scouts, cause more flinch than scouts, are better in closer ranges than scouts, can still work in long ranges like scouts. That’s the complete opposite of balance.

Edited by TheArtist: 4/4/2019 3:01:56 AMThe issue is that in going from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2 the PVE play spaces got significantly larger, while the PVP maps (because of being intially designed for 4v4) got significantly smaller. So if you tuned weapon range for the small size of most Crucible maps, you'd render a large part of the armory useless in PVE. People choose pulses over scouts because very few maps in the game actually have sight lines LONG enough to warrant using a SR....and most of those are the "Unknown Space" maps.

make bigger maps and all sandbox issues solved.

5 RepliesI'd like you to meet my crucible bygones. Usually paired with pulse rifle targeting helmet(typically my oem, lulz) Smallbore Ricochet rounds Range finder Outlaw Range masterwork. Basically unless you have a jade rabbit, good luck lol. People disregard everything that doesn't have rampage or kill clip. Mistake. This bitch shreds.
-
5 RepliesBecause half of the maps don't have sightlines large enough. Vostok sucks for pulses, and the reskin of Pantheon also can pose issues on the longest of the sightlines. Trust me, pulses have a limit, it's just that most of the maps don't fully reach it. You have summoned me.
-
It’s just 4 burst pulses that are really annoying. Makes no sense.

1 ReplyEdited by blade329: 4/2/2019 3:52:48 PMHmmmmmm.... On Equinox, I notice a huge difference in effectiveness of scouts over pulse rifles. Scouts have the advantage at range, that's for sure. I'm ALWAYS using a scout on this map. Players with pulse rifles have to get in closer or they don't have a chance. Try using Talon of the Eagle or the Jade Rabbit.

Oh wait, everyone knows. That’s the only good thing about console. It’s very easy to outrange Pulses on the big maps with 150 scouts.
-
Hmm maybe they could make scouts better. There are a few that feel good but mostly nah
-
I have a Blast Furnace with kill clip/feeding frenzy and max range. It’s insane how much damage it does at scout and even sniper range. I love it 🥰

1 ReplyI think the main problem is that the current set of crucible maps are mostly short to mid range. I say mid range but I mean the WHOLE spread all the way to the maximum of like pulse range, to the point where I have fought it out with auto rifles. There are very few occasions for long range engagements. Let alone long range maps like first light and many more in d1. There should be a wider map pool honestly and this problem is solved easy
-
2 RepliesComing from someone that uses pulses almost all the time, completely agree, i even say it....their range is ridiculous. Removes the entire point of scout rifles, you can outgun them almost every time.
-
They first need to balance 180 hand cannons. Then we can talk.
-
Pulse rifles should only be behind snipers and scouts. I believe bows are the ones with a range issue. Bungie devs said they shot bows for inspiration in the game, i call bs. Long bows and recurves have an optimal range of around 50 yards, compounds 10-20 yards past that. Yes they can be used at ranges further out but not reliably. P.s. I have been hunting with a bow for about 24 years
-
5 RepliesA pulse rifle should not be able to outgun a sniper or a scout at cross map ranges.
-
I do think it’s funny that Bungie has said that scout damage is lower because of their range when a good pulse can hit from nearly as far away with drastically higher damage because of the map design making it a non-issue.
-
This is so true, pulses have godly range and still uphold the ttk at that range.
-
Yes. Pulse snipers!
-
Absolutely agree with you. Another problem they have is flinch, don’t know why they have so much.
-
1 ReplyHandcannon range is also insane stop crying.
-
Laughs in max stability, range MW blast furnace

I guess it just shows how crazy and inconsistent this game can be from one player to another, but I rarely get killed by any weapon in the primary slot. Jotunn probably accounts for around 50% of my deaths, and the rest are a mixture of supers, shotguns, and various PvP strong exotics. In fact I rarely get killed by legendary weapons unless it’s a shotgun or machine gun. Which is insane because it seems like almost everyone has Bygones equipped when I inspect their character. Shit I’m running it right now.
