You know.. removing cores from the infusion process is really all the incentive most players need. Really simple fix.
You honestly believe a substantial amount of players are going to start playing D2 again just because cores are removed from infusion?

by removing cores - what will be the incentive to do most of the game's content? this is a seriously flawed request - remember, Riven might just grant that. be careful what you wish for!
-
So what you're saying is this game's endgame is enhancement cores?
-
what i'm saying is, cores are essential - but it is not as essential as if you will be locked out of content if you enter below the recommended power level. with all my 150 days in D2 I have never felt the need to fully masterwork all my gears. but a time came when i'm simply sitting with a lot of cores and have no need for it. it is only significant now because of the recent power level increase. but upon reaching 700 - my demand for cores decreases. hence no fuss for me. besides the game is providing enough cores on a weekly basis. NPC vendors offer random cores from gears from item exchange. sometimes they give 2. if lucky - you get a fully masterworked item which when broken yields 2-5 cores.

Crazy that people believe that infusion core changes will suddenly bring back millions of players.
-
Agreed, those millions are never coming back, cores or no cores.

Sadly, this might be true.
