Bungie, I've Got No Mo FOMO

I used to log in because I loved to play. Then, I logged in because my friends/clan were active, and we had fun. Then, I logged in because I felt compelled to complete quest lines, and grind for kit. Then, I logged in out of habit. Then, I logged in because I thought I'd miss something in an expansion or season: FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). I haven't logged in for over a week and will be out of town for the next few days (Opening Day and LEGOLAND with the wee ones). I used to feel like I would be missing something. #NoMoFOMO

  • Up to 5 weeks of not playing now... Seriously considering deleting D2.

    • Stopped playing March 9th. I didn't like Forge, I don't like Gambit and I'm not grinding the same 7+ month old boring content just to level up to play Gambit related stuff. My Clan of 90+ is gone and none of them have any intentions of ever coming back to this train wreck. No reason at all to play anymore. Even though I paid for the Season pass, Bungie will never get another dime out of me.

Me too, i havent played in 2 months now. and even before then i played minimally. Only for a fear of missing out on season stuff. But honestly? once you're out of the machine and able to look at it from a third person perspective when you're no longer a part of the rat race, you realize just how stupid and awful the game design really is. And that the whole thing is on fire. I don't care about missing out anymore because the game just isnt going anywhere good or where we want it to go, and only bungie is to blame. And yes even though i don't play anymore, i still come take part in the forums. Why? Because out of every single game community and forum i've been a part of or wall flowered, Destiny's is the most interesting. Because a lot of stuff happens here, consistently. From fanboyism, to long time fans who want a good game, to rampant anger from buyers remorse and seeing ex fanboys being made from hairs being split one by one as they each find their patience's and wallet's limits, it makes a huge awful cake. And the cherry on top is how interesting it is to see bungie constantly indirectly reacting to their game being bad in all the wrong ways, over and over and over. It's a crazy phenomena i have never witnessed before and go on for so long.

        • It's liberating. In only log on for the things I really want now. I got the crucible smg, and I'm finished now. I'll hop on every now and then for a game or two of crucible, or to get the next invitation of the 9 lore. this game isn't a fun, play it every day game anymore. Nothing to miss out on.

        • I used to feel like that, too. After months and months of grinding without a shattered throne ship, any curated black Armory weapons, 41 tries to get Anarchy, and more I can honestly say, “I really don’t give a shit anymore”.

          • I stopped playing after playing a sweater version of Invasion and realizing pretty much all the content was gated through that crappy game mode. And this cores debacle made it worse. #NoMoFOMO

          • I hear where you are coming from. I still enjoy the game but I cannot stand that every quest or activity forces me to play PVP where I am cannon fodder for Luna’s howl. It’s not fun playing a game that forces to play the one aspect of it that isn’t fun anymore.

What, you don't want to grind out 180 armor pieces in a shitty endgame activity that are only good for playing a "competetive" mode that sucks ass? Weird.

            • That's why I play different games. Play 1 game exclusively for years and you will get burnt out. Division 2 is a great game. If I were you I would put Destiny down for a bit.

              • That’s because they haven’t had an activity worth doing since Queens Wrath. I expect that a GT with all the Queens Wrath gear would fetch a hefty price on the E-Bay.

              • I think a lot of you exaggerate about how bad this game is tbh. It’s got flaws and somewhat shitty devs but jfc it’s like nonstop chicken little sky is falling shit in here

                      • My fomo cure was a MASSIVE grad school test i basically had to shut my life down to prep for. Didn’t play any games for over a month, burying myself in class notes. When i finally finished that test i thought “man im crazy behind in destiny, i missed the opening WEEKS of the drifter dlc content” At which point, i realized i didnt give a single flying -blam!- that id “missed” anything. Because it really put in perspective that i havn’t. The only newish content is either gambit, or some collectively short quest activities that have been cut up into 15 min bite size pieces spread over multiple WEEKS instead of something you can do at your own pace over maybe 1 week. Outside of this its playing the same content, every week, that we’ve done for months. The general pattern has become maybe 3 to 4 weeks of actual content drop, followed a month or two of then repeating that content ad nauseam till the next release, meaning that you can’t truly fall behind, as everyone ends ip in a kind of “game loop limbo” anyway

                      • I felt like I was addicted. I would stare at a bunch of games that I would ultimately like to play and just fire up D2 instead.i eventually hit rock bottom and took a month off. Lately I’ve been playing just to shoot stuff, nothing hardcore. I might start running raids just to complete collections and try out the last one that just came out.

Then, I logged in because I thought I'd miss something in an expansion or season: FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).
I definitely used to have the FOMO. The thing that cured me was all the resent weapon and ability nerfs, especially the ones that were nerfed specifically to protect the new Gambit Prime mode. Nerf too many extraordinary weapons and abilities, and the desire to chase that "next big thing" really just goes away. I know that items that are special and ultra effective will ultimately be nerfed, so there is no longer a desire to waste a significant time going after them in the first place. There is really no need to grind for average stuff anymore (have tons of that). And Bungie seems like their philosophy is to ultimately make everything average.
