Oryx is gone. How are creatures still getting taken and how are they retaining their own will?

Savathun is most likely taking them. Or some enemy that we haven’t heard of.

11 Replies<Oryx wanted to Take Riven but didn't want to use her. Savathûn picked up the strings later with full intent to use Riven, and she was happy. As others have said, Oryx can leave partial wills intact. Malok is another example outside of Quria and Riven. Quria BTW is capable of taking, but needs Savathûn to give it the power to do so.>

1. They are being taken by Savathun. When we killed Oryx, we left his power unclaimed. According to Sword Logic, it was ours to take....we didnt'. So Savathun came behind us and took it. 2. Savathun is different than Oryx. Oryx eventually became something of a fanatic about Sword Logic and The Final Shape. So he would turn the Taken into slaves to his will, believing that their defeat proved their unworthiness to exist. The only times he'd allow someone to keep part of their will was as an act of spite...and to serve other agendas. (Savathun had engineered the "accident" that led the Vex to invade Oryx's throne world. So he left Quria with part of its will...and gave it to Savathun. Probably in the hopes that it would cause her trouble as well.) 3. Savathun operates with guile where Oryx used to storm with brute force. She also seems to be focused on finding a way to free herself from the curse of her worm. The whole situation in The Dreaming City was a Savathun gambit to try to find a way to trick her worm into thinking its being fed...without her having to go out and find in unending supply of things to murder. So when Savathun "takes' something, she generally **bends** them to her will rather then BREAKING them like Oryx did. The result is that they work FOR HER....but she leaves them enough of their will they aren't mindless slaves. So they can add their skills to her own power. Which means a Taken Riven can still create wish magic. The Taken Cabal Legionaire we fought in Lake of Shadows can still organize and command a military unit of other Taken without Savathun's intervention. Savathun works more like an organized crime boss....whereas Oryx worked more like one of the Princes of Hell.

Cuz. It’s space MAGIC.

28 RepliesOryx has the ability to let the creatures it takes retain their will. For example, he let Quria keep some of its will. If I recall correctly, Oryx let Riven keep all of her will. To correct Your Accomplice, Savathûn can not Take. Only Oryx could. Savathûn herds enemies into Taken blights, where they are Taken. Savathûn is a smart and found a loophole, but cannot Take.

4 RepliesDo...do you not read what this forum is all about??
Put in a little effort, at least. Shit..
I'm still upset we didn't face any Taken humans back in D1.

3 RepliesWell Oryx does have the ability to take and still allow said taken to hold its will, Quria being the primary example of this. Oryx is smarter then he looks however, he probably found out Riven's whole schtick about twisting your own words against you and Oryx thought that was a valuable tool to make sure he stays sharp and alert

Is he really gone, Looked like he Took himself.

1 ReplySavathûn, Oryx’s sister, apparently has the power to take as well. And Riven was only partially taken, so she still has some of her own will
