Taken servitors and their implications

This post will outline the possible ways in which an artificial intelligence(in this case servitors)is capable of being taken. They are listed in order going from least to most complicated. Possibility 1: The servitor itself is not taken, but rather the ether within. The tannish organic substance emanating from the eye may be a byproduct of this taken ether. This is a stretch considering the closest comparison would be taken Vex, especially when ether is not as complex and does not have a mind or a “will” like radiolaria does. Possibility 2: the actual servitor is taken in the same way that weapons are taken, and the organic compound is either an ether byproduct, or a microorganism controlling the shell, but that’s unlikely Possibility 3: Possibility 2 but the the organic substance is just hive chitin and the servitor itself is controlled remotely. Possibility 4: It’s a fusion. The taken servitor can summon taken vex parts that shield it. The tentacles on the back of the servitor are actually vex tentacles, and the ether in the servitor was replaced by taken radiolaria. This allows it to summon taken vex eyes to shield itself. This is the most likely theory. Possibility 5: It’s 4 but with more. I’m a poet and you didn’t know it. Anyway, possibility 4 does not explain that organic substance. This one does. It’s Cabal skin. Thanks to Uldren’s magical adventures in the black garden, we now know that radiolaria has “interesting” effects on Cabal skin. It won’t be much of a stretch to say that taken radiolaria causes some swelling. This would also explain why the axion darts the servitor shoots out are swollen as well. I would hate to have written all of this just to find out that there is no reason and it’s just a taken servitor. Seriously. Bungie. I just gave you like 4 free explanations. Use em.

  • In the final mission the little objective box on the left called the Voice of Riven a Chimera. In Greek mythology the Chimera was a creature with several different parts of animals like the hard of an eagle, body of a lion, and tail of a snake (I’m not sure how accurate that is). The point is that the taken servitors could be a mix of several different things.

  • Possibility 6; It was Taken by Riven so you can throw all logic out the -blam!-ing window with that goddamn reality warping Taken Ahamkara

    • Well it is a chimera, so by definition it's an amalgamation of different animals. So it's possible that Quria or Riven got a little experimental and decided to create something new and horrific

Anything can be "Taken". Just look at the Vex constructs. Absent of Radiolaria, yet the machine aspect can be Taken and given new purpose. As for Taken Servitors, the organic matter is what they recieve from being Taken. Notice how they have mouths. It's because of how the Fallen ate from them, and were treated as machine "servants". Now, reshaped they were given a form so they can be the ones who consume. Taken powers cover their hosts insecurities. As for the Chimera, it's possible that consuming another will grant the Taken Servitor the some power of whatever it consumes. Vex protection, the Seekers, the only odd thing is the transference from the Normal Realm to the Ascendant Realm. That's only when it consumed Uldren. You know another time this happened? The Corrputed Strike with Sedia who was Taken herself.

        • What about Taken Ogres? They have a simple explanation. Savathûn has more power than Oryx, so she can take an Ogre. Same thing here. Savathûn is more powerful than Oryx through her wish with Riven, so Taken Servitors can exist.

          • I honestly don’t know what to think of the Taken Servitors. All that I’ve seen are the same. Since the Voice of Riven was called a Chimera, I assume that the apparent mix of organic matter means they’re supposed to be something different from regular Servitors. The organic matter must have something to do with them being able to be Taken. Bungie hasn’t given us any details on these, so I don’t understand how they exist or what exactly they are. Maybe there are regular Taken Servitors I haven’t seen, so correct me if there are.
