The Dawning cookies were hands-down the best addition to this game ever.
They need to make a similar system available throughout the year. This is nothing but positives for both player and developer:-
- Players get physical rewards for grinding the same-old. Nice little sparkles (that are worth less than the light they emit) every 3 enemies or so. This gives them a little pat on the hiney that convinces them to grind some more - because they can make something out of it. End result - more players playing for more time.
- Players who are currently struggling with Cores see another opportunity to grab some. This method is slightly more in their control - or at least it seems so, they will feel happier about grinding it up (even though it still has rng in the end.) End result - more players, more time spent doing things.
- In order to get the correct ingredients, you need to switch up your loadout, and kill different enemies. This gives the devs a lot more data on different weapons so they can assess balance much easier, as well as adding variety to the average players' game time. End result - yeah you get it.
- The rp'ers can have another outlet in this game, where they can role-play as "futuristic blacksmiths," if only for themselves. There are several benches and boxes around the Last City where an rp-nerd can set up their "smithy." End result - probably just one or two very happy role players.
So, in conclusion, I believe that Destiny 2 will greatly benefit from having a system based on the Dawning cookie oven throughout the year. It doesn't need to have the holiday cheer, but maybe you can craft armor plates or something specific for each npc.
