• you are replying to an 10 month old post by suggesting violence because windows is a requirement... and who is toxic again?

  •
Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly
It's not an emulator. Emulators are built to mimick the processing architecture in order to run software designed for that architecture, similar to virtualization. Wine basically reads Windows functions from the program and translates it to *nix functions (in this case Linux, though there have been builds of Wine for Mac OS and I believe BSD too). To take from the top answer from this post:
A program in Windows makes extensive use of standard libraries that belong to Microsoft Windows. These libraries are rewritten and implemented in Wine so that they do much the same. The more a program is well written and the standard libraries, the greater the chance that the program will work in Wine. The code of a program is first examined for calling the Windows libraries. These calls are translated so that the Wine's libraries called. Then the code of the program executed at full speed. There is no emulated code, but only the calls to the libraries are translated.
HOWEVER, I believe the reason for the bans is because the libraries used in Wine are not the original Windows libraries, but rather rewrites of them that run on Linux, which can be loosely thought of as "Modified operating system files" even though they were more or less built from scratch instead of being modified. While I don't agree with the bans, as I see nothing wrong with playing a game on your own preferred operating system (as long as it can run on it in some way that doesn't require the game itself to be modified), I can understand their decision to do this.

  • I know what wine is. I also copied the definition from their Wiki. You want to know why there are bans, it is because they are trying to operate the game outside of its native environment. doing so can (and is seen as) a way to circumvent the anticheat system as the system is expecting to be within Windows. Most of the anticheat scanners and such are not set up to work in a linux set up. Its Bungie's game, they say play it on Windows, if you don't you will probably get banned.

You didn't copy it from their wiki (https://wiki.winehq.org/ ), just Wikipedia. This is an instance where Wikipedia has incorrect information. Also, I'm not OP, I didn't ask the question, I was clarifying what Wine is and how it's different from an emulator. Edit: Formatting

Pretty it up and techify it however you want, It is by definition an emulator.
emulator noun em·u·la·tor | \ ˈem-yə-ˌlā-tər \ Definition of emulator 1 : one that emulates 2 : hardware or software that permits programs written for one computer to be run on another computer
It is software that permits programs written for Windows PCs to be run on Linux PCs (or Mac or BSD). https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/emulator edit for link

Wine stands for " W ine I s N ot an E mulator". It's on the top of their website. Btw. Linux and Windows are operating systems not computers. I agree with @KaedeKuroi maybe the problem is with the libraries (even though it is rewritten not modified), but it would be better if they don't instantly ban us, just warn us not to use it.

  • You can make it say whatever you want. It clearly fits the definition. I can call My dog NottaDog but it will still be a dog. It makes Windows PC (personal computers) software run on a Linux PC (personal computer)
just warn us not to use it.
It states in the system requirements windows is required. The LSLA warns of using emulators/virtual machines. WINE clearly is operating in the same spirit of an emulator.
It states in the system requirements windows is required. The LSLA warns of using emulators/virtual machines. WINE clearly is operating in the same spirit of an emulator.
@KaedeKuroi already explained why Wine is not an emulator and they are not lying on the main page of their website, but I don't want to argue about this with you. But here is one more reason: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emulator
In computing, an emulator is hardware or software that enables one computer system (called the host) to behave like another computer system (called the guest). - Wikipedia
Wine does not behave like the Windows OS. It just runs Windows games and softwares... Bungie says that the minimum and recommended requirements to run the game is Windows. But this is not true, because you can run it on Linux with Wine... I don't want to achieve this game to be playable (without banning you) on Linux, but if you bought this expensive game and you got a ban because playing on Linux and if the LSLA is ambiguous it can be pretty nerve-racking to see a big nice message on the screen while logging in: ,,This account has been banned." So that would be the great if Bungie could warn us not to use Wine or fix the LSLA. Edit: achieve, (without banning you) Sry my English is not that good.

  •
I don't want this game to be playable on Linux, but if you bought this expensive game and you got a ban because playing on Linux
Why would you buy a game that has not been designed for any OS/emulator/software outside of a true, native Windows OS install and then complain the game doesn't work properly? I'm sorry but I don't understand this.

I'm complaining about why Bungie banning people who play on Linux... And who said I bought the game?

I found their trustworthy website here: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/109713 They say:
Below are the minimum system requirements for Destiny 2 on Windows. Due to potential programming changes, the minimum system requirements for Destiny 2 may change over time.
They don't talk about Linux, are they? :D They talk about the minimum system requirements on Windows. That's what I'm talking about. The LSLA is ambiguous.

  • Gonna be honest. Bungie has never answered any of these ban posts in the past. One dude refreshed his post every day for 2months for a answer never got one.
