You've been playing Halo for years. You've taken orders, you've given orders, and you've lead humanity to victory.
However, have you paid attention to the men who have lead your fellow Marines into battle?

Where are these characters from?
Stacker- Halo: Reach, Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3.
Johnson- Halo: Reach, Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST.
Buck- Halo: Reach, Halo 3: ODST.
The Timeline-
So we start our journey from the beginning, within the novels of the Halo Universe.
The Beginning-
Johson- Johson joined the UNSC at age 19. He was originally chosen as part of the ORION project (Spartan-1) where he had enhancements given to him. Johnson took place during the Insurection wars, where he was a platoon leader, and during one mission, hesitated on a shot at a rebel, resulting in a detonation of a bomb, killing his squad and 39 civilians. He returned home and was soon found by Lt. Downs, and was reassigned to Harvest.
Harvest-
Johnson- Originally assigned to stop any rebels, Sergeant Johnson participated in the first Human-Covenant battle where he defeated 4 Jackals. As tensions rose, Johson participated in the Battle of Harvest. After his participation, he was reassigned to Reach Station Gamma.
Buck- Buck participated in the Battle of Harvest where he saw many marines die, which made him his battle-hardened self. After Harvest fell, Buck was reassigned to Reach.
Reach-
Johnson- Sergeant Johnson was on Orbital Station Gamma during the Fall of Reach. Here he led a search and destroy team on the station after being boarded by Covenant. He was rescued by Spartans 117 and 058 (John and Linda) where he then escaped to the Pillar of Autumn.
Stacker- Staff Sergeant Stacker particpated in many ground opperations during the Fall of Reach, and helped evacuate the Traxus tower during the Raid on New Alexandria. He then evacuated to the Pillar of Autumn.
Buck- Gunnery Sergeant Buck was mostly on ground opperation like Stacker. He fought in the Raid on New Alexandria, and requested the help of Noble Team to escort him and his men. It is unknown how Buck escaped Reach.
Battle of Installation 04 (Halo 1)-
Johnson- Sergeant Johnson helped defend the attackers on the Pillar of Autumn before escaping to Halo (Installation 04), and he was reported as one of the last to leave. He crash landed on Halo and was rescued by Master Cheif. He led the attack on the Truth and Reconciliation ("The Core ain't payin us by the hour!"). He led a team including Captain Keyes into Installation 04 where his team was attacked by Flood. Due to his augmentations in the ORION (Spartan-1) program, he was immune to the infection. He later escaped Halo on a Pelican where he then met up with a Longsword piloted by Master Cheif and Cortana. He then assisted MC in Operation: First Strike setting off a chain reaction destorying Covenant ships. Due to the Cole Protocol, he then evacuated to the remains of Reach where he met up with the remaining Spartain-2's, and Dr. Halsey. After escaping the trap set by the Covenant, he then went to Earth.
Stacker- After escaping the Pillar of Autumn, he was in the raid on the Truth and Reconciliation along with Sergeant Johnson (it is unclear who led this attack as Stacker outranks Johnson at this time). Stacker went on to secure the Silent Cartographer. His Pelican is shot down, and he then helped Master Cheif push his way to the Controll Room. It is unknown how he escaped Halo, but he did.[
Battle of Earth & Installation 05 (Halo 2, Halo 3: ODST)-
Johnson- After returning to Cairo Station at Earth, Johson was promoted to Sergeant Major. After defending Cairo Station, Johnson went with Master Cheif to New Mombasa to fend off the Covenant. His Pelican was shot down, and he fought through the streets. After returning to the UNSC In Amber Clad, the Covenant carrier tried to make a slipspace jump, and the UNSC ship followed. Johnson helped the Arbitor stop Tartarus from firing the Delta Halo, and found out that the other Halos were in standby to be fired from The Ark. Upon returning to Earth, Johnson found out that an ODST squad secured an Engineer, which he then interigated to find out that the Covenant were digging on earth to uncover The Ark.
Stacker- Upon returning to Earth, Stacker is promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. He led a group of ODSTs in New Mombasa, where his Pelican was shot down (That's #2). He then helped Master Cheif chase down the Scarab. He then escaped to the UNSC In Amber Clad, which followed the Covenant cruiser. He led the ODSTs, and led the assault on the Prophet of Regret's holdout. He then fell back to assist Keyes and Johnson where they were all captured, and then rescued by The Arbitor.
Buck- Gunnery Sergeant Buck was in command of his ODST squad until Lt. Dare took it over. His squad was secretly reassigned to recover an Engineer which led to the discovery of the Covenant's intent on Earth. He began his campaign by dropping into Covenant-occupied New Mombasa. During his drop, the Covenant cruiser jumped into a slipspace jump (which the UNSC In Amber Clad followed with Johnson and Stacker). He and his squad were seperated, and helped rescue many marines, destory primary Covenant occupied areas, and he totally got the girl in the end.
Halo 3-
Johnson- Johnson found Master Chief, and proceeded to trek through the jungle until captured by Brutes. Johnson continued to assist MC with air support and dropping off troops. While he was attacking the Third Tower to deactivate the shield barrier, where he was overrun, and captured by Brutes (again). He then made a final stand at the Ark, attempting to fire it to destroy the Flood. He pissed off 343 Guilty Spark, and was fatally wounded ("Send me out... with a bang.").
Stacker- Stacker led the marine force with Johnson to recover Master Cheif. He then took command of First Squad to act as scouts for Johnson. After rescuing Johnson, he evacuated to Crow's Nest, and then later led an attack on the Anti-Air batteries to allow Lord Hood's forces to attack Regret's ships near the Ark portal. Stacker organized a platoon of Scorpions and Warthogs to assault The Ark. He helped MC eliminate the Scarab outside of The Ark. He then led the epic attack on the outskirts and beachhead of the Citadel.
Epilogue-
Johnson- He's dead.
Stacker- Last seen attending the Memorial Service at the end of Halo 3. Presumably still enlisted and kicking ass.
Buck- Location unknown. Possibly married Dare?
Conclusion-
So this is the stories of our heroes. Which do you see as the most significant character? In my oppinion, although the story shows Johnson the most, Stacker has seen the most combat, and is the toughest of the bunch. Buck, however, I believe is the most tactical.
In the end, although Buck is my favorite of the three, I'm throwing my vote for best Sergeant to Gunnery Sergeant Stacker.
If you have a different character in mind, such as Sgt. Forge, or GYSGT. Reynolds, please give your reasons.

Buck FTW
-
You forgot to mention how Johnson also assisted the ground forces during the raid on New Alexandria. Or, am I the only one who noticed that part of the level? Johnson & Buck tie.
-
Johnson has one of the BEST quotes in the entire halo universe. Dear Humanity. We regret being alien b***ards. We regret coming to earth. And we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!
-
GYSGT Stacker FTW!!!

Johnson.

I can see myself in you're visor, pretty! Stacker and Johnson could destroy Buck any day.
-
Pete Stacker
-
Stacker, only because I always wondered what was up with him. He was always fighting with me, but he never really had a cutscene. I only found out his name when I saw the firefight voices, though I've noticed the guy since Halo 2
-
Eh to hard to choose!

Printed on Alternative Apparel t-shirts. The Mushroom and Black Burnout-colored shirts run a little smaller than regular t-shirts. Men's Small and Medium are roughly equivalent to Women's Large and XLarge, respectively. Check out a size chart here.
Posted by: Mohohoho Thanks this filled so many gaps of the story in my head :D
Glad I could help

johnson all the way

I love me some Buck. The only thing that made me quite want Stacker's FF voice (still went for Buck) is: "Someone, anyone, please respond!" No one can pull that off like Stacker.
-
Buck is awesome and Johnson is...well he is just the greatest. It does seem like Stacker kinda got shafted, the most combat and the least recognition.
-
Posted by: PARIAH 231 Well, that was awesome. My vote will always go to Buck, regardless of evidence that prove the others did more. I just think he's awesome. "Truly, if he was any better, he'd be a Spartan."
Yeah, that's the same for me.
