It has kind of annoyed me for the longest time, and I was thinking perhaps after all these years it would be fixed but how do you guys always make your games so unbalanced? It happened with D1 and now D2 has been doing the same. It appears you go with something because "cool" but you don't seem to stop to think how it will effect the overall game. My opinions and example's are from the perspective of a hunter because I have been playing a hunter since D1.
Let's start with everyone's favourite, the One eyed mask, how broken do you want to make an exotic? Titans will say, "but its the only good exotic armor piece for titans, or one of the few good pieces", which is rubbish, but also you can only use one at a time anyway, it does the job of multiple, and it is an all rounder for near any situation. It's an exotic that bolsters defence, attack and allows you to see through walls. A slight decrease in the speed of the recovery and overshield after a kill wasn't enough, it should be one or the other at that speed not both, or remove or reduce damage buff. It does the job of graviton forfeit, wormhusk and foetracer all in the one exotic (graviton increasing invisibility allows you to see through walls for longer, wormhusk with its heal on dodge and foetracer with its mark and slight attack boost) however it allows you to do these simply by being shot, the effects last longer, the damage is more substantial and doesn't require you to be low on health and finally it heals both health and provides an overshield. This partnered with the next two topics of discussion equal this terrible meta you have implemented.
This brings me to the next part, titanskating... Why did the devs think it's a good idea to have titans be the most mobile class as well as the most durable? I main a hunter and before anyone is like, 'typical hunter complaining' I have no problem with most gameplay and I do fine, but when I activate a super and am unable to catch anyone in it because all but my solar class supers are melee range, it kinda annoys me. Not to mention that titan skating operates too quickly for the network to register. I will shoot A guy in the head and it is a 50/50 whether it will count if they are titan skating, they can then get right into my face and unless i switch to shotgun they can shotgun me or use the stupid titan melee ability to one shot me. This is absolutely ridiculous and needs to be fixed, I can remember when destiny trailers were first released, gameplay was first announced, titans were the tanks of the group, warlocks the magic, healing mid ground, and hunters were the agile type that was meant to get behind the enemy and take them out quickly. Obviously a titan can now outrun supers which is the complete opposite to that original concept, and I understand changing concepts and that's fine, but when it is so game breaking.... especially as it provides such a huge advantage with one eyed mask, it allows people to cheese their way to legendary in comp, obtain top tier guns like 'luna' and 'not forgotten' and then continue to dominate every other game mode with even more prejudice. You say that you implement things to make people feel more powerful, yet you have been negligent in the sense that by making one class so powerful, you have made others feel weak.
Next area, one punch melee. I have been punched before. I have had a 300kg speaker drop on top of me and crush my back, but I still lifted the damn thing and saved my friends life. If someone were to stab me with a knife I would say my chances of me surviving are smaller especially if delivered with the same super powered velocity. Literally all you need to do is picture a bullet, a bullet is effective because it is a high power, high velocity object that has a small surface area. All of it is delivered to a single point of impact. How a hunter knife can take up to 3 hits to kill is ridiculous, especially if an enemy can turn around and one shot them. Plus I'm sure people are sick of being one hit by titan skaters. I don't want the hunter to one shot kill though, even though we are squishier and it is often more difficult to get close, I just feel as though everyone should be the same with their melee. Perhaps warlock can have a slight burn on theirs, titans can gain a small buff to their defence as theirs activates and then hunters can activate theirs slightly faster or something to provide some variation. But at the moment it seems unbalanced as hell.
Supers. This is getting off the titan hate (not that it really was hate, but because it seems very unbalanced). Shadowshot takes far to long to activate. Straight up, like if a guardian hears a shadowshot he has plenty of time to get out before it activated, you have to shoot ahead of them and hope they are dumb enough to run into it, or set it up around a corner and hope they couldn't pinpoint the sound. High levels though, it is not viable. Blade barrage needed the defence that occurs during the animation reduced and that was it, not a delay in the explosion, if a knife is in you, you are going to die anyway, the problem is you cant kill the wielder due to the near immortality in the animation. Golden gun is great, except you only get three shots which is fine for pve, or you get 6 shots which drains rapidly, sure you get a little back when you make a kill but as other classes you can literally cross a map kill people, run back to where you started and kill those people again, 6 shooter you simply cant do that, plus you need precision to use it as opposed to say hammers where you can throw it in an area and allow the explosion/ burn damage to take care of it, a suggestion, allow users to put away their super like with chaos reach at the cost of a bullet. Arcstrider is great... if everything else was balanced too it would be even better
Supers part 2. Chaos reach is strong and can go across a map destroying people left and right and then can be stored for later... overall though it doesn't seem to be too bad in terms of a super that can be balanced. Nova warp nerf wasn't bad either, it made it so it could be handled. Overall warlock supers are probably the most balanced, decent defense, decent range, decent power, decent time, you can avoid them if you look out for them, all around they are pretty good. Only one with maybe a bit of an op card is the Dawnblades: defence is high, range is ridiculous, explosive semi tracking fire waves of death. Still this is kind of ok.
Supers part 3. Titans, do you guys just love your titans? Bannershield, range with the ability to deflect off surfaces meaning you can throw it into a room and may just luck out on a few kills, defence is op, nearly unstoppable, especially if they are just straight up skating around the map, One hits. So essentially a one hit range attack that requires very little aim or skill to get a kill and allows the user to be nearly immortal in the process, especially when partnered with our favourite one eyed mask. Burning maul, more manageable.. Still crazy strong with range, if they utilize the skate it becomes overpowered but if you fixed that problem it would be ok. Hammer of Sol... This needs to be nerfed, AOE, DOT, high impact, near impenetrable defence, partner with one eyed and titan skating and you are an immortal god, how anyone ever loses with this class is beyond me. Fist of havoc or as we like to call it Fist of panic, is the equivalent of blade barrage, people use it when they aren't paying attention, are close to death and need an out... only difference is that Fist of Havoc allows you to run around the map a little killing more than just one or 2 like blade barrage (unless there's a group of people where blades can shine, but once again it's conditional, fists allows you to create the conditions by allowing movement after the initial release) it's no problem overall if you just reduce the defence you get with it. Which reminds me... why is blade barrage the only hunter class to get a major buff to defence, and then only when the animation is going? I mean spec blades gives you a little, but when faces with a blades I back off but never feel an urgency to run, hammer of sol I find the opposite side of the map as quickly as possible. Also 'Gwisin vest' has become next to useless thanks to the nerf, that was our ticket back into the super game but it didn't last very long so thank you for making us feel weak and squishy again bungie.
Finally exotics. You guys have some great exotics, and then you have some not so great ones, and then you have god tier ones. Exotics such as 'wish ender' for example is excellent in certain situations, but other ones is completely useless. Exotics such as Ace though, are basically useful in almost all situations except perhaps super long range battles, in which case the people using it are likely to have a bow or sniper or maybe even scout to compensate. Your armor is terribly unbalanced, titans are annoyed as there are not a great deal of options to stay competitive in crucible. Warlocks only have a select few as well that are viable and none are really over powered, they simply assist moves that are already quite strong. Hunter exotics have huge variety but are once again very situational and really only apply a single effect that in the end allows them to bridge a gap that exists, not add something that makes them superior. Oathkeepers lets them hold the bow indefinitely which can be great for corner peaks but with the way your ping compensation works, half the time it doesn't matter. Stomp-ee5 allow for faster movement and higher jumps, but in Pvp a higher jump is an easier target and the movement speed still only just pulls ahead of some people over long distances and definitely cant compete with titan skating. All these add one aspect only which is how it should be, but when you start at a disadvantage in so many areas they become lackluster. I already mentioned 3 helmets.

1 ReplyIts not a pvp game at its core. the power fantasy in the pve suffers enough. From the pvp balance.

1 ReplyOne eyed mask is getting nerfed. Titan skating isn’t something they really “allow”, and something they are working to fix. All melees shouldn’t be the same, since all abilities aren’t the same. Every class has its pros and cons.

Now PvE players are destroying PvP!!! Eliminate PvE!!!! 😈

6 RepliesAbysmal PvP player here, k/d around 0.3 (bwahaha:D), lately stopped playing Crucible whatsoever (at total I have around 12 hours there), so my "PvP" activity comes from Gambit. I do not argue with your PvP experience, as I only got to 260 of Glory and it's barely my achievement - just got lucky with my team, plus Bungie buffed it couple of times. However, my experience is slightly different. I'd say I've seen my titan being killed by hunters and warlocks melee from one hit both in Crucible and Gambit. G0lden hunt3r suggested it may be some "group fire" accident where only final blow was made with melee, but in few cases I'd say there were none, we were one of one with opponent. At least I couldn't hear any gunshots from them nor see any muzzle flashes. Resilience 7-8, by the way. Not sure if relevant (someone said it doesn't work in PvP). In Gambit there were more melees, but they clearly happened after previous firefights (so shields/health were at least partially depleted), or opponents were using guns (don't bring knives to a gunfight:)). However, couple of times I've seen same proverbial one-hit kills from hunters or warlocks, not fearsome titan's shoulder charge. Not sure if other classes have exotics buffing their melee, honestly, I haven't checked their gear. One-Eyed Mask proved to be less useful for me. In PvP it procced tracking only couple of times and healing/overshield either didn't worked, or was removed by opponents, so I didn't noticed. In PvE it is even more useless than that.:) Supers. Ooh, that's shiny! Super VS firearm. As titan, mostly Sentinel, I've seen my shields (handheld ones) were pierced by enemies. One shot, actually - super depleted, either my guardian or those behind I was trying to shield from invader dead (or both). And invaders weren't just their supers mind you, it were ordinary firearms. At least twice linear fusion, both Queenbreaker and Crooked Fang, and several times sniper rifles (with local names I can't remember them as I haven't even memorized them, but not Gambit one). Thunderlord also manages to deplete shield/super pretty fast. But it could be lighting effect. Not sure how it works - generally it stops any damage from PvE, including Fallen tank cannon. Super VS melee Super. Doable, could go both ways, mostly depends on how well my (or invading sentinel's) hits register. Throwing shield (while technically not melee) is not panacea/unstoppable death, as multiple times I and invader threw our shields at each other with little effect. Super VS ranged Super. Generally it depends on range and type of opponent. Commander shield VS Chaos Reach. Defeat. Couldn't even ran through half of outer corridor on Dreaming City Gambit map. Thrown shield didn't harmed the invader (yes, in that narrow corridor). Striker (upper/lower) VS Chaos Reach. Ditto, dashed only once. And hey, I served in military and play ArmA, so I tried zigzagging or going perpendicularly. :) Code of Missile. In most cases I can't even take off against invader looking (and shooting:)) in my direction, regardless whether he is in super or not. My only chance - initiate super while they are distracted or obscured. Plus distance is kinda meh, even when starting at 45 degrees upward. Irrelevant VS Dawnblade. Generally defeat, unless I'm very close (which transfers it into melee category). Flying hammers so far proved to be most effective (managed to kill invader once). Golden gun is generally unstoppable, it goes through sentinel shield with ease. The only thing that stops it - Ward of Dawn, but it's not offensive. Blade Barrage - no chances, even if I'm already in super and not reacting to invader. Never seen any Nightstalker invading. Couldn't participate against Voidwalker (depleted my super previously on mobs). Devastator has chances in melee, but that's it. Haven't met Chaos Reach warlocks as devastator. Second attack is not strong enough to flicker invaders hard enough, so generally they can kill my guardian with firearms. Yes, I know, it's not true PvP, as invaders have overshield and maybe some other hidden stats, but that's what I saw. Some data correlates well with that I saw in Crucible. Don't know what's titan skating is, but as I understand, it is some form unintended/undocumented feature, that borderlines exploit. Therefore I'm not sure how to "fix" it, without altering catapult jump, which I used couple of times when hunted region chests and during Whisper mission. But I digress. While Titan is a wall and "walls don't care", there is one moment I'd like to mention. Back when I was wearing uniform, we had a unit that trained in... I guess similarly to SWAT activity. Heavy, slow - typical titans. Until they started their entry procedures. They were surprisingly lightning swift for hefty guys hauling a lot of equipment. I'm not saying "don't nerf titan skating" - I have no idea what it is in the first place, I'm just saying that there could (and probably should) be some form of swift "assault" movement other than sprinting and melee. Not sure for how long, but I've seen some warlock outrunning me to Ada. Warlock skating?:) Last but not least. Your comparison with bullets. I've read local code of conduct, but found no guidance, so I'd rather avoid quoting our military/LE materials on ballistics-related topics. :) Let's say it depends on many factors. Nevertheless, thanks for wall of texts, I like such materials, even if not competent enough to appraise due to lack of experience in this area.

2 RepliesJust wanted to also clarify, I think a lot is done right with the game, this is just pointing out some things maybe people want to consider. I enjoy it a lot and a lot of the time I relish the challenge, but it's moments where the challenge is taken out entirely simply because of a class choice or weapon choice. I'd like to see more variation in the game, people using more scouts or side arms, fewer hand cannons, grenade launchers and shotguns. You should be able to play with weapons you like the feel of and still compete, even if it is a little bit of a challenge, not have to conform to using what everyone else is just to keep up.
