  • <The Derelict's origin isn't entirely known, as it's heavily implied the Drifter's previous ship was frozen into disrepair. It's currently being used as the Drifter's personal ship, Gambit's ready room, and is pretty useful in hauling giant ice hunks. It may have originated from the ice world the Drifter was stuck on during the period of time between the SIVA Crisis and the end of the Red War. The Drifter and members of his "crew" encountered an ice planet outside Sol that gave off signals that repressed Light, similar to the OG Thorn. Upon inspection, they realized it was because of the planet's current inhabitants, weird dark headless entities. Some of them were frozen in alien monoliths, tech not known to the Drifter nor his crew despite the cluster-blam!- the Solar System was. Over a period of time, encounters with these creatures and the planet's natural climate started killing them off. When the Light was lost, the Drifter was forced to kill his crew once they all drew on each other. He's a survivor. He left the story of how he got off the world a mystery... BUT some of the artists responsible for making the Derelict, the ready room inside, and the ice hunk say that the concept was that the Drifter had wrangled mysterious alien cryotech. So it seems he kitbashed a ship together and took a chunk of the planet with him. But why? Well, the goal was to capture one of those creatures, something that proved rather difficult. So why not just take a chunk with one of them on it? Problem solved. Some may believe the hunk holds the pocket of the Ascendant Plane the Drifter managed to get, but I think that's just a side effect from having that thing by him and the Motes he's been getting. Also do not be confused. These Darkness creatures are NOT the Primevals. Primevals are rage-filled old Taken left by the Taken War. These entities seemingly are a natural Darkness-borne race, if we also take Cayde's Treasure Island book into account.>
