What happened to Bioware?

Seriously, how is this the same company that brought us Baldur's gate, KOTOR, DAO and Mass effect? Andromeda, while still being a semi fun game in my opinion, was a complete disaster. It was unpolished, janky and bland when compared to previous entries. Everyone assumed this was because it was made by the "B" team while the "A" team was working on Anthem. The bad part is I haven't heard a SINGLE good review about anthem. Everyone seems to have the same opinions. The game is nice to look at but gameplay is boring, looting is terrible, mission and enemy variety is non existent and characters are bland and boring. If Bioware really meant it when they said everything was riding on Anthem's success I'm beginning to worry. It makes me sad that most big name game developers have all lost their way.

  • Bioware could have literally make a -blam!-ing Hanar Swimming Olympics game set on the freakin waters of Kahje and it still would have been a better game.

  • I don’t really blame BioWare for this. I blame the whole genre of shared world, games as service. I don’t know if they are just too ambitious or something but every single one of them seems to release in a broken, unfinished state. They then spend the next couple of years “fixing” the game and adding missing content (just in time for the sequel to release). As far as I’m concerned the genre is broken. I don’t know if Anthem is any good or not because I haven’t played it yet. Maybe the reviews are wrong and maybe it’s amazing but from appearances it looks to be repeating the same pattern as Destiny, Warframe and The Division. I’d be curious to know if BioWare chose to go down the shared world looter shooter path or EA pushed them that way. I kind of wish they had put all these recourses and effort into producing a really good single player RPG instead.

  • If I get 110 hours out of it it was worth the price I pay.

Actually I hear that the gameplay is one of the few great parts about the game. People seem to really like flying around and pulling off combos and killing a ton of enemies. I have a feeling the excuse will end up being "Anthem was bad because the good developers are making Dragon Age 4".

      • It’s because of all you idiots who overhyped the game. I didn’t expect anything and I’m enjoying it. If you seriously thought this was going to be a revolutionary game of the century, you’ve not been paying attention to the state of the industry.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pq0TqZq4mhA Okay that's the game play of Anthem that so many of these rage mongers are going out of their way to shit on is such a lavish and over-the-top fashion. Now THIS is Warframe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkJEDDP-G1I A game that these same hypocrites almost Universally praise. Oh, and by the way....that mindless RUSH of enemies straight at you...is EVERYWHERE in the early parts of Warframe. But no one EVER talks about that when discussing the game. What's going on? A Toxic Hive Mind. 1. You have people who see this as their opportunity to take a pound of flesh out of EA for their past sins...and BioWare is collateral damage. 2. You have a YouTube Culture of some very prominent creators who make the bulk of their money by trafficking in Negativity and "Manufactured Outrage" setting the narrative with absolutely breathless, hyperbolic and absurdly unfair criticism of the gam.e 3. Shooter gamer's pissed at the lack of PVP. 4. Gamer's mad at the staggered release of the game. So unless you're on PC...and part of Origin Premier you were limited to only 10 hours of play. So many content creators who wanted to play the game couldn't do so. 5. Lots of people don't understand the game's combat system...and want it to play like a conventiaonl shooter....and if you try to force the game to play that way you're going to find it a frustrating slog. Though its lots of fun if you play it the way it was designed to play (BioWare is partly to blame for this because there are no in-game tutorials on how the Prime-Detonation system works. 6. EA is not being even REMOTELY subtle about the fact that they are gunning for Destiny's position in the market with Anthem. To the point of signing many of Destiny's content creators . So you have nervous Destiny players and content creators going after the competition. 7. People still mad at BioWare over Mass Effect. 8. You had content creators looking for and deliberately taking advantage of exploits and glitches trying to break the game....and then turning around and bad mouthing Anthem for how THEY had chosen to do.

          • New Bioware is pretty much just the name pasted onto the new guy's face. The old Bioware was technically dismantled quite a while back.

          • A lot of people are jumping on the hate train. Most of the issues being complained about are being fixed when the official launch happens tomorrow. Doing an early release with issues that could be fixed so soon was just a bad idea. I’ve seen a lot of positive feedback about the game on YouTube lately, but gamers have become toxic towards everything over the last few years. As an adult I see a lot of whining and complaining, and a lot of it is warranted, but to certain extent. Overdramatized reviews with cult following are death-knells in the gaming community these days.

            • It’s the way the industry is going. Almost everything is going online. Many things are trying some kind of micro transaction system. Expect it to only happen more and more. The only game I’m super excited about is Cyberpunk. Anything else that is potentially going to be offline single player I don’t know enough about yet and is few and far between.
