<[i]I sat there in my ship, wondering what to do with the Worm. It's gotten too big. It barely looks like the larva it once was, having fed off my kills, past and present, for the last couple months. The chitinous armor covering its entire backside growing sharp spines and its head flattening out and sprouting horns. The tail had turned into a deadly weapon, tested when I found it earlier after accidentally leaving the ship unlocked. The idea hit me after a while. Could I set the Worm loose in my Throne World? It's already overrun, why not send in something to deal with it? I have no doubt that it could do some damage to the Taken there. The portal had just finished closing when someone came knocking on the hull of the ship, making me jump. "You in there?" It was Maya. I got out and she was holding a weapon I had never seen before. It was a shotgun with black diamond shapes lining its sides with glowing red outlines. The sights were glowing red and the barrel was surrounded by nanites. There was no clip in sight. The SIVA logo was printed on the sides of the weapon. "Where did you find this?" I asked. "I didn't find it, I made it." "With the same batch?" The look on her face said it all. "That's... dangerous territory. SIVA won't stop until its goal is complete, and that gun doesn't look like armor." "That's why I changed the program. I'm not that stupid." I stood there, relieved but still a bit worried. She caught on that immediately. "Look, I'm not helpless, just because I don't have a Ghost doesn't mean I can't be a Guardian." "It doesn't matter if you're considered a 'Guardian' what matters is that you were jumping into Crucible matches with Guardians that DID have means of resurrecting. Just because you survived every battle that you fought doesn't mean that it wasn't extremely dangerous!" "You're the one who's been without a Ghost for a year now and goes out daily to mess with powers that barely anyone understands! You fight Hive and Taken constantly, that's way above a Dreg with good aim or a hardened Cabal soldier. You've been to the Dreaming City, the main location for everything dark! You can't tell me that what I'm doing is extremely dangerous when someone could argue that what you've been doing is far worse!" I stopped again, looking off towards the Traveler. She was right. We were both stupid. While I did have a Throne World in case of death, it was overrun by Taken. If all goes to plan that may change but for the past few months I've been in the same boat as Maya is in now. Both of us could die at any moment and we'd have no definitive means of coming back. I sighed and turned around. We stood there for what seemed like ages until she broke the silence. "I was going to ask you if you wanted to do a Crucible match, Shaxx is doing that thing he does for the Crimson Days. If you don't want to, that's fine, but I wanted to ask anyway." After a moment of silence, she turned around and started walking away. "I'll do it" I said. "What?" "I'm in." We stayed for 6 matches, winning each one flawlessly. The other teams stood no chance. When it was all over we went our separate ways again. I sat on top of the old Tower, looking at the Traveler as I had done so many times before. I felt a warmth in me, a sense of comfort and happiness. I had to remember something, despite the corruption and the conversion, I was still a Guardian. I was chosen for a reason.
