What did the Drifter really find

So in the lore it talks about the Drifter going to a cold dark planet and finding dark headless beasts. Then it says his who crew was killed and unable to be revived. Then the Drifter got away from the planet with that large dark rock on his ship. What do you think that really is and could the Drifter really have come back to the tower with this darkness to unleash it on the city and its people. Or is the Drifter a normal guy who likes to unleash taken in a game he calls gambit (hint that's not true). Comment your thoughts below.

  • The rock contains a ‘piece’ of the ascendant realm, which is where he stores the taken. He summons them using the motes of dark. He got the ascendant realm ‘piece’ from the icy world you mentioned.

  •
ok so the whole story really summed up is that he left earth because early guardians were huuuuuuge dicks like major assholes who killed innocent people and he knew that we needed a weapon against someone who is immortal, hence all the references about light versus light battles so he goes to this planet and finds the ice creature thing and creeps them out but also they discover an alien there that can drain light. The drifter and his crew spend (100 or 1 year/s idk i forgot) on this planet trying to capture this creature and they died many mant times in their sleep from the cold (they found out the creature exist due to one of his crew not being able to be revived after he died in his sleep) BUT they never were successful in catching one, i wont go further however his whole mission is that Light/Darkness is bullshit and people who are bad will be bad and need to be killed, so he uses darkness to create the primevals and uses gamit to weed out potential evil guardians. Hes not BAD persay but hes definitly a good stones throw away from it.
• All I know is that once it’s all said and done.....I’m gonna whip his arse. Even though he does remind me of Benicio del Toro....who is cool.

  • The Traveler made Ghosts and thus Guardians in its last attempt to defend itself and us. Since The Darkness is probably an inverted but equal entity to the Traveler (when the Traveler woke up and killed Ghaul, so did those Darkness ships), the Darkness probably made those creatures to counter us. Oryxes Taken were his Taken, but these "Primevil" creatures that suck away your Light when you get too close are, my guess, The Darknesses mirror counter to Guardians. When the first Guardians tried out Gambit when Drifter arrived, they were actually terrified and almost nauseated by the energy these prime evils give off. If Light and Darkness are in a forever struggle and especially equal but opposite in their actions, I believe that The Darkness made these creatures just as The Traveler made us. But thats just a theory...
A GAME THEORY
The Drifter found a truth. Something more powerful than the light? More like something that can take the light without it taking his light. Heads or tails? 50/50? High roll or low roll? Hah! Let him do him. Brotha’s got a bit of winning streak, I’ll give him that. 👍 But what is chance to fate? What is luck to destiny?

      • It's probably either a creature made out of Darkness or a an Alien that just so happens to be able to drain light I believe that Drifter just wants to push the bar some more, to show people that you don't have to follow the rules. He's an anarchist

      • The so called “ice chunk” is really a piece of the darkness temples that they found on the ice planet

          • <He's hoping to change the game a bit by introducing something that will test people without the Light. He understands we need to be more than that. The "ice hunk" (as the artists call it) may be a chunk of the ice planet but we'll see.>
