I want to play Crucible, but I am a solo player.

Over the last week I have tried to play Crucible to use the Last Word and get back into the swing of things. I have always been able to hold my own in the Crucible. Typically top half of the team if not top, and maintaining a positive K/D. Trying to play Crucible this week to use the Last Word has just been disheartening. I actually feel like Bungie has just given up on PvP and let it fallen to the wayside and I'll say why. Matchmaking, as it currently stands, is biased towards stacked teams. Let me explain. Now in all matchmaking you'll have the one or two matches where you get rolled by a full stacked team as a solo player, and you'll never completely get away from that. However, it seems this is the permanent state of the crucible right now, as I am consistently being matched into 6 stacked teams, 3 out of 4 games. So as a solo player, the Crucible is now a monotony of matches where I'm typically matched into a game that's already halfway over, and the full 6 stack team on the other side is 40 to sometimes 50 points ahead. Not only is this discouraging, but what usually winds up happening is I'm placed in the match around the time the whole other team gets their supers, and is rushing our now discombobulated team in spawn. The good teams will layer these, and so I am forced to watch myself killed in spawn with no hope for contest 3, to even 4 times before I'm able to spawn in and actually use my weapon. So my options? Either quit out of the match immediately and perpetuate the problem, or suffer through the remaining 5 minutes watching the other team spawn camp us repeatedly, with supers, heavy, and a lockdown on lanes. This is not what the Crucible used to be. While there has always been an element of chaos to PvP in Destiny, there was always The potential for a team to make a comeback with a well placed super, or a higher skilled player pulling the team up. Now, thanks to simplistic map design that focuses on well defined lanes, and tight corridors, once you get behind it's a matter of how long the other team can keep killing you in or just outside of your spawn. And to those who find themselves with 5.0 or higher K/D's doing this, know that all you have effectively done is shoot fish in a barrel. Your stats are bloated, and you don't deserve them. I want to submit this post to plead with Bungie. PLEASE Consider looking into making adjustments to matchmaking that favors matching like sized teams together. It is not an engaging, or rewarding experience to go in as a 6 stack team, and spawn camp 6 random people for 10 minutes. And it is disheartening to desperately want to enjoy Crucible, and not be allowed entry simply because I want to play by myself. While I understand Rumble is a playlist, it simply doesn't scratch the itch of 6v6, especially when the rounds only go to 25, are plagued just as bad by spawn killing, and typically end very quickly. Your solo players will thank you, and be more engaged with your Crucible if you will just allow them a fighting chance in it. Hope somebody sees this.

    • They just did adjust matchmaking but as someone who plays anything that completed solo, solo, I have to say I haven't noticed the stack problem nearly as much as everyone says. I'm gonna give you the same speech that always gets said but crucible is based on teams, so the solution is to get a team. Matchmaking can always improve but solo players honestly have no room to complain in always game that is designed to be social yet has 95% of its content available for solos to complete. If you want to do well in always team based game mode, gotta get a team man...or go in solo but accept the conclusion.

      • It has always been much harder to win solo, even in D1. Teams have always had an advantage and always will have an advantage (that whole 'team game mode' thing). To me the main difference between D1 and D2 solo play is that the small maps just make it harder to lone wolf and kill from range compared to D1. I guess that and not having Tlaloc and Rift to help a solo player run around without a team and get kills. The player population is probably too small for them to make meaningful changes. Heck, I had two Mayem games start yesterday without 12 players. One started 3 vs 4. They say they tried more SBMM with Iron Banner, right? I looked at all my Iron Banner matches that were supposed to have SBMM and found that they had virtually no SBMM (based on Destiny Tracker stats). There aren't enough people still playing for them to do much more than fill each game with whoever they can find with 'reasonable" connection quality.

      • So go play crucible...... I don't get what's stopping you. In all of destiny 2 I've played a total of 8 games with a pre-made fireteam in pvp.

      • https://imgur.com/gallery/uUMSDgX This is someone else's score screenshot from DestinyTracker. He was boasting how good he was. But it is a perfect example of what is wrong with match making. Why is a Diamond and Gold players getting matched with Bronze players? The answer is because it's QuickPlay and Destiny 2 has no metric to rate how good a player is. The ELO for the players shown is DestinyTracker's own metric. Instead, Destiny just matches players based on CONNECTION. Which is why the chances of playing against the same people is high. Because your connection quality to those players doesn't usually change. They stomped you once, you'll probably get matched with them again. It's like this because streamers want to have video's of them wrecking people who don't even know how to use their radars. But they don't want boring video's of them just trading with similarly skilled opposition. It is what it is. If you want some sembalance of skill based match making, ignore the complaints, and try Competitive. It will match you based on your Glory, which is nothing more than win/loss ratio. But that's better than constantly being outclassed by better skilled players. And outgunned by Competitive OP pinnacle weapons (looking at you Luna's Howl & Not Forgotten)

        • This is why people are running from this game. People can claim they don't run into premades often, however it doesn't negate your experience. They have lost over 750 thousand players in the past 4 months. It would be more if Last Word didn't release. Numbers are down over 100k even with the last word quest. People are tired of the horrible matchmaking and going elsewhere. I have 4 kids and they, as well as their friends have left Destiny behind. I still enjoy things in the game, however I don't play very much crucible anymore. I used to play a lot, now IB and Mayhem mostly. Best of luck to you, but it may be time to start looking at other games. I looked at Anthem, not really interested, but going to try out some others this weekend. Destiny Crucible = Uneven, laggy, horrible matchmaking where every game is stomp or get stomped. It's going to be Bungie's downfall!!!

          • The matchmaking last week has been -blam!-ed. I lost 9 QP games in a row because the teams were so imbalanced. That being said, there is NO way in hell you are playing agaisnt 6 stacks 75% of the time. Thats BS. I checked your game history and you ran into 2 in a row (which is what im assuming spurred this post) but prior to that i didnt see any obvious stacks....

          • 698K Crucible players yesterday. take that number and divide by 3 for how many are on your chosen console or PC.. after that you realize there are not enough players to support more game modes without 10-15 minute MM times.

I’m a solo player, and literally the only time I lose to six stacks are are because my teammates pussy out because this community has summarized 6 stacking as a sin and to avoid them at all costs, because playing with friends isn’t allowed. But the truth is six stacks are kinda trash. Unless they are practicing for scrims or something, I usually have a breeze in quick play as a solo player, and a SNIPER of all things. Most 6 stacks are trash players that stay close and get numbers, communicating and positioning can carry you to lunas even if you don’t have the best gun skill. But since I’m p good (don’t look at my stats oof) I have a pretty good time. This also just might me be, but I love when teams try hard against me, since I’m a competitive player I live for this, if I get rolled, I’m improving, learning how teams play and how to challenge these new situations. And when I do best them, it’s all the more sweeter. I think people just take this game too seriously, most of the time I play pvp I’m jamming to music or watching YouTube. Top fragging isn’t a priority, I’m just putting myself in a good mood and playing better. I’m not going in with a gritty mindset of “Oonga boonga must win”. Last night was just me and my friend having a grand time of us going in on players while I tell him stories of D1 and how cool that game was back in y1/TTK. Just have fun and relax, it’s a game

For the most part it is fine. Here are the things I want to see though: 1. Prioritize putting teams against teams (we don't need a separate play list) 2. Give an option to the player to deny joining already started matches. Number 2 is my biggest pet peeve. I'm sorry but I'm leaving every match that I join which is already in progress. I will not sit through the game just to get killed by one super after another right after joining. It's just not fun. Otherwise, gun play is mostly okay but, obviously, there needs to be some changes.

              • I play solo probably 75% of the time and if i do play with others it will be a fireteam of 3. I have fairly decent stats - top 1%. I dont come up against large fireteams nearly as much as you claim. Sure it happens and sometimes if i dont feel like the challenge I just back out before the game starts. Its not ideal but it works. A solo 6v6 playlist would be pretty fun tho.

                • I play solo 90% of the time in quick play. Even against teams I manage to go very positive (I’ve been sniping and issuing grenade launchers as of late) It’s not that hard, imo.

                  • If you have a bad night in crucible, play in the morning. Its nearly 100% easier. Its honestly kind of sad to see how many players are so bad because all the .8 pve only people play in the morning.

I mostly play crucible solo and 1. Don't run into premades as often as you claim 2. Have totally crushed premades as a team of full solos before. Just because they're premade doesn't make them automatically good 3. If you say you're actually decent and need to get kill progress then go do rumble where it's guaranteed to be full solo. I'm not even close to being amazing, usually around 1.3 kda in QP but almost always place top 3 in rumble I'm also level 20 without the DLCs or access to any of the top meta weapons. It's really not that bad as a lot of people cry about w solo/stacks/sweatfest/shotgunapes etc

                    • I've been a solo player (mostly) for all of Destiny's life. The only thing that's gonna get you better at Crucible is playing more Crucible. Watching how people play. Understanding how each class works and how gear takes into account.

May I suggest you give comp a try? It has sbmm, and you will be matched with other players at your current rank.

And i will back up thier claim on D2 crucible, it is terrible, im not a fan of pvp but at least it was fun and a lot more fair in D1 crucible and back before D2 was released you spawned with only primary ammo, lets not forget about all of the tasteless and unskilled players who hide behind a corner and one shots you with a shotty, that or they slide under you and get you from there. Spawning in with only primary ammo kept a lot of the favor towards the teams who knew how to keep up with other players, sadly those days of strategic play are long gone.
