I made a list of tips in a reply earlier for people having trouble getting past the Crucible kills step for The Last Word quest. I figured I should make an actual post so that more people can see and hopefully be able to get through this step towards their gun.
- Play conservatively: stay back and never rush opponents. Assists count towards progress on this quest.
- Buddy up: follow a teammate around. Check out the player list in-match by bringing up your ghost and try to follow the player who's top of the list on your team.
- Use long range weapons: pulse rifles and scout rifles will put damage on enemies from safer distances. If you're confident with getting hits with bows, they make excellent assist weapons.
- Avoid close quarters: Unless you're confident in your CQB abilities, I would avoid equipping close range weapons. Maybe use Telesto to deter shotguns from pushing on you.
- Be flexible: if you start doing poorly in a match but you don't want to leave, don't be afraid to change up your strategy.
- Leave the match: I would reserve this as a last resort when you've tried everything else and just can't seem to turn it around.
- Never be alone if you can help it: Whatever you do, do not be a lone wolf. It will make you easier to pick off, especially if people are using the strategies I've listed above.
Use these tips and progression should come naturally as you play. Do not try to rush things. Don't fret over how many kills you're getting each match. Don't check your quest progress mid-match because it leaves you defenseless while you're waiting for the menus to load, even if you're following the quest.
I hope this helps, and good luck resisting the temptation.
