Feedback Request: Snipers

Hey all, Cozmo and I are currently collecting some feedback on Sniper Rifles. We have been for some time, but we wanted to centralize the source of feedback to an extent. Do you have feedback on Sniper Rifles? Are there any QOL style improvements that you'd want for this weapon archetype? What currently works well, and what would you want to see changed? This does not guarantee any specific changes will be made, but we wanted to ensure your thoughts are properly represented when we pass feedback along to the team. Quick note, Rapid Fire Sniper Rifles will be receiving a buff tomorrow. Currently, Guardians require 3 body shots to be defeated, tomorrow this will be reduced to 2 body shots. With that in mind, are there any other changes you'd like to see? Cheers, -dmg04

  • I think that flinch should be reduced. A skilled sniper would still have success but right now, even the slightest damge causes the reticle to dance on your screen. I also think that teammates should not be able to flinch me.

      Less Reticle Sway Less Flinch low zoom scopes like ambush is all I can say...I just want to main a sniper again

    • Low zoom scopes would be nice, as well maybe a damage increase across the board. Sipers don't have that punch that they had in D1 in my opinion.

      • For Pvp 1: Higher precision hit impact. Adaptive and high impact snipers should be able to 1 shot supers to the head. With the reflection, shields, and mobility that supers have, shutting down supers is hard enough. 1 shotting supers will incentivize intelligent super movement and positioning(cover, sentinel block, arcstrider reflections). The amount of skill needed to headshot a super is more than deserving of a kill. I would also enjoy 1 shot capability for other special weapons as well. 2: flinch and handling. Flinch right now is too high. This deters players from using snipers aggressively, and only promotes passive sniping, hardscoping, and even camping. As for handling, it could be much higher. Personally, I find joy in trick shots, which require high handling. Faster equip speed also creates synergy between your sniper and primary. In addition, Jump snipe accuracy should be increased. A position up in the air is a disadvantage on its own, but the lack of any accuracy makes jumpsniping close to impossible without mods. I would suggest the bullet should go exactly where the reticle is. 3 More perks should be sought after. At the moment, most snipers prefer snapshot sights, opening shot, and moving target. There were far more perks to chase down in D1: hot swap, hidden hand, QuickDraw, unflinching(it’s on D2 armor, but still), and life support. Some perk suggestions of my own include: increase handling after sprinting for a period of time; reduce reticle bounce after jumping/falling; sliding after a kill increases weapon swap times.

      • Hey Bungie team! I played a bit of crucible with snipers recently and I noticed a few glaring issues: 1. The maps don’t allow you to even scope in against Shotguns in 50% of the areas 2.the flinch was unbearable in a 2-3 shot primary meta 3. Killing someone isn’t as effective as Shotguns because you cannot collect ammo as efficiently. So what are some fixes? First: 1. Reduce flinch on snipers 2. Increase ammo on spawn (by one if it has to be) 3. Allow snipers to be more viable in mid-long range areas.

      • snipers, scope zoom is still terrible, I don't like staring into my enemies soul when I scope in and flinch is still ridiculous, ESPECIALLY when bullets are not even hitting you and you are being flinched

      • I think sniper rifles are good as far as damage. The only thing that really bothers me when I use one is that Im constantly out of ammo. I usually have a surplus when Im using a shotgun since Im so close to my kill which just makes using a shotgun far more efficient. I'd say maybe add a couple more bullets on spawn like 4 to start. Maybe some more perks on snipers like hidden hand and hotswap or quickdraw. The maps also mostly hinder snipers. A lot of my shots happen at very close and dangerous ranges.

      • 1. The flinch on all snipers is too high, and unless you get the shot off before they see you, you’re almost guaranteed to die. 2. The unflinching perks seem to barely reduce flinch. A buff is needed to make these perks worth seeking out on armor 3. Scopes are way too high zoom, making tracking targets difficult, especially because most maps are relatively small. 4. The amount of ammo when you spawn with is too little, and having to go retrieve it after each kill defeats the purpose of being able to hold down a line of sight. Overall, sniping doesn’t feel as consistent as it did in D1, making shotguns the only choice to stay competitive. I’d like to see them improved so that there are more viable choices for special weapons.

        If I may. I play destiny 2 on Xbox and there seems to be a problem with the conversation mission on the draw quest. Last night I did managed to get to the third draw and even though I died I still killed the weapon master but it didn’t give me the last word. And it seems the no respawn turns off when you go down to face the weapon master so when ever I lose a draw I have to run back to where I came in to start the encounter again. This seems like a bug that should be taken care of. I realize this isn’t on the topic of snipers but I feel as a player I should try to give any feedback I can to help Xbox players like myself have a less irritating experience when trying to get this weapon.

        • Snipers are in a good state I'd say, but the major problem for me and and I feel like most people is the flinch they have when you're shot and the fact that the scope on snipers cant be switched anymore. It would be awesome to see the return of interchangeable scopes.

        • Right now I feel flinch is a big issue, given that a lot of people are using pulse rifles or 180rpm hand cannons right now the constant hits give a huge amount of flinch and with the recent buffs to fast firing autos and scouts they're going to have the same affect. If you don't want to reduce the flinch of all snipers maybe change unflinching perks (especially enhanced versions) on armor pieces as right now they don't really feel like they do anything. Lower zoom scopes. A lot of the crucible maps are small to medium size maps which is great for the pace and flow of matches but don't lend themselves to the longer zoom scopes currently on snipers. Ammo. I feel snipers could spawn with 3 or maybe 4 shots instead of 2. Right now you spawn in go for a kill and maybe you miss your first shot and get the kill with the second you're now out of ammo and even if the enemy you just killed dropped a special block the likely hood is that one of your team who's running around with a shotgun has already picked it up by the time you can get to it and now you're left waiting til you die or find a random special brick.

        • I love sniper rifles, I always have, I feel like they are in a good spot, however I feel like high impact low rate of fire ones should be able to one shot headshot a super, I also feel like the flinch should just be partially reduced to make it a little bit easier to hit your target. Also possible give 3 bullets on start in the crucible as opposed to be 2 that shotguns get as a form of high risk high reward with the capability of more kills in essence but with he caveat of it taking a little bit more skill.

        • The flinch should be toned back a bit, Or atleast make it to where if you are getting shot you flinch BUT if you shoot than the bullet will go exactly where you were aiming despite the reticle being away from where it was.

        • Bring back D1-Style Snipers that are actually usefull like 1000 Yard Stare with decent damage output and reasonable special ammo so that Snipers can be used as a source choice of boss dps when it comes to strikes and raids instead of Whisper & Sleeper being used in every raid boss encounter. That way people can focus on using heavy weapons for add clearing more and not having to rely on heavy weapons and EP shotgun being the only good boss dps guns. D1 special weapons were just fantastic.

        • Don’t really use snipers much but the final last word mission is bugged and not dropping the weapon after beating all three draw confrontations. FYI

        • Hey Bungie, I’d say reduce flinch on weapons without High Cal rounds. Have rare short zooms drops. And maybe include zoom on masterwork to reduce zoom. Also, make a perk to return a bullet if you get two head shot kills. Thanks!

        • I really enjoy using snipers in the current meta, but they aren’t a very easy weapon to use. I believe that snipers should be a high skill based weapon, but right now both flinch and aim assist kind of suck. If you get shot by literally any weapon, your redical shoots upwards and landing kills becomes hard. Also, I feel like a slight adjustment to aim assist would really help the weapon become more viable. I see what bungie was doing when they created both tatara gaze and IB. The one shot body potential is kind of viable which is why I have been enjoying the snipers in the current meta, but it isn’t as strong as a shotgun or fusion rifle. So please buff sniper rifles bungie!!!

        • Sniper flinch and lack of long corridors or open spaces without easy flanking routes are my main complaint, but the changes y’all are making now seems to be for the better. I think an extra bullet to start with (exclusively to snipers) would be nice too since shotgunners are close enough to pick up ammo immediately after a kill.

          • They are super amazing and powerful! One-hits just about anything excepts the turrets and shielded enemies... Those are typically two or three shots. Those Grabbits don't stand a chance from any distance either. Love them and how they feel! BTW I'm super excited to play again this weekend for the open demo and I'm even more excited for February 22nd! ....We are talking about Anthem correct?

          • I get the sneaky suspicion that, even based on framing this thread on crucible body shots, Destiny is evolving into just a PvP game. I’d like to point out Fortnite and SW did the same thing, started completely in PvE then found money in creating (for better or worse) a Battleroyale and just said screw the narrative. Now, there is nothing wrong with that and it’s been great for players and developers. However, I don’t think Destiny was ever intended to be that sort of experience. So instead of a veiled question asking how we would like snipers balanced or enhanced, but changed to fight other guardians- why not be transparent in the reason for the question. Why would I care to recommend a sniper that can kill a huge boss better when what you really want is support for a sniper with creative TTK? Hence the absurdly easy and boring revival of the PvP craziness of the Last Word. What’s next? Icebreaker? Can’t be the mythoclast because that was the first gun nerfed because it threw off PvP and it would invite going back to square one and having this same thread 5 years from now...if you’re lucky.
