Feedback Request: Snipers

Hey all, Cozmo and I are currently collecting some feedback on Sniper Rifles. We have been for some time, but we wanted to centralize the source of feedback to an extent. Do you have feedback on Sniper Rifles? Are there any QOL style improvements that you'd want for this weapon archetype? What currently works well, and what would you want to see changed? This does not guarantee any specific changes will be made, but we wanted to ensure your thoughts are properly represented when we pass feedback along to the team. Quick note, Rapid Fire Sniper Rifles will be receiving a buff tomorrow. Currently, Guardians require 3 body shots to be defeated, tomorrow this will be reduced to 2 body shots. With that in mind, are there any other changes you'd like to see? Cheers, -dmg04

  • PvP recrimination: Change vorpal to an ammo type that reduces range 10-15% but allows snipers in the 90 rpm to shut down a super in one crit and allows 140’s to two crit or one crit two body a super. Allow the return of ambush scopes that are actually low zoom. Its very disappointing that praedyth is a 49 zoom “ambush scope”. Id also recommend that 140’s be changed to 30-40 or lower zoom with an aim assist value of no more than 60 i think. Theyre very unforgiving needing a triple body which i dont mind at all but make them more appealing to the aggressive snipers. Keep snap shot off of them if need be as they already have high handling. 90rpm should rock anywhere from 43-51 zoom and 72rpm should sit at 50+. Id like them to return to forsaken/shadowkeep glory but even I admit beloved had stupid hit registration. I think the aim assist/accuracy is okay. Also i know you’re bringing back pinnacle perks but please dont bring back reversal of fortune. Mulligan is perfectly fine but id restrict it to rapid fire frames that cant roll high impact reserves along side mulligan.

  • Sorry to be LTTP for this one. Snipers are the only secondary weapons which penalize you for hitting the body (aka missing the headshot), but are the most affected by flinch which causes you to hit the body (instead of the head). Fusions, shotguns, and GL all have no or very minimal precision damage multipliers. I'm a PVE player, so this feedback would apply to PVE only: 1) Change the PVE damage multipliers to match that of PVP for red health enemies (but keep the absolute value of precision damage the same). Meaning, adaptives have 3x the damage multiplier for precision shots in PVP, so the same should apply to PVE. This will increase sniper body shot damage. For majors and ultras, the lowest precision multiplier should be 2x instead of 2.75x (using agressive frame snipers as an example). So adaptives would have, lets say a 2.25x multiplier and rapid fire would have a 2.5 damage multiplier for example. Again the absolute value of the precision damage value would be the same translating to more body shot damage. 2) Increase the number of low zoom scopes as mentioned by several. 3) Decrease flinch significantly.

    1. Remove sway when moving and greatly reduce sway when jumping and landing ( especially when it’s just landing after a single jump yet the scope hits both the top and bottom of the screen) 2. Reduce sniper flinch 3. Snipers must be able to 1 shot to the head all roaming supers at 90 rpm impact and up at least 4. More ammo on brick pickup to make up for their disadvantage with the way the ammo economy works 5. Slightly increase aim assist on certain snipers with negligible aim assist values 6. Bring back desirable perks like quickdraw and unflinching 7. Bring back low zoom scopes such as shortgaze and slightly reduce zoom on medium zoom scopes 8. Greatly increase sniper handing across the board (there are certain snipers with such low handling that you physically can’t slide and aim down sight in time to shoot before reaching the end of the slide) TL;DR allow aggressive sniping to return and stop punishing players for not sitting in the back of the map on a headglitch. P.S. reducing pulse rifle range and flinch would help balance the game greatly as they causes rediculous amounts of flinch on primaries, let alone snipers. Pulse rifles should not be the counter to snipers, scout rifles should. However, scouts are irrelevant not only because of map design but because pulse rifles have just as much range, are much more forgiving and cause great amounts of flinch at any range.

      Bungie's in-game content needs major work and this is what they want to focus on? Why is Bungie refusion to answer legit questions like the in-game content? When is this company going to update the vendors, strikes etc... or creat loot that gave gamers a reason to run the repetitive content? It's y2 and the loot pool in this game is so dry it's not funny at all. Where are the faction vendors that were removed 5 months ago that Bungie refuses to talk about? Why do strikes not have strike specific loot like D1? Why do they keep creating events but add barely any loot to acquire as if the RNG in D2 isn't worse then D1 and the added time-gatting with RNG as if that as well isn't worse than D1? Why did the vendors in this game not get updated like D1 when every new expansion came out or at least every other DLC? Things like the Gunsmith having an empty inventory when in y1 he had triple the inventory? What's going on because snipers should be the least concern right now knowing there are bigger issues in this game. Edit: Bungie talks as if they are listening and post like this come up. How is this listening other than paying attention to PvP gamers? first, it's Gambit and now snipers. Is avoiding what actually needs attention something that should be expected from this company? Edit: Just had to add, go play Halo Reach, the snipers worked well.

      • Leave flinch alone please. Shoot first or get DED. Rapid fire snipers have no business double tapping to the body. If anything they should be the snappiest and quickest handling. They should have the most flinch as a trade-off. Also, only high impact snipers should be able to 1 hit supers. And should have the least flinch, and handle slower as a trade-off. Mid impacts should be right in the middle, only capable of 1 hitting supers with low enough resistance. I'd say 3 or 4.

        • Please bring No Land Beyond back. This sniper is one of the most unique guns ever introduced. It wasn't taken seriously by most but for a select few this weapon was absolutely deadly. I know we have kinetic snipers now however the addition of an iron sights sniper would be cool. Also make some money off of it you already have an ornament for the gun in devrim's hands sell it in ever verse.

        • I would love it if you could bring back short gaze and ambush on legendary snipers also if you could bring back some of the D1 snipers such as no land also if you could bring back hidden hand and unflinching that would be great

        • Here are he top prioritys for snipers in D2: 1. Make the overall size of snipers smaller and more conpact, almost every sniper in d2 is super big and bulky when you hold, compared to d1 they’re almost 2x the size. 2. Bring back sights such as shortgaze and ambush, they’re possibly the best sights in the whole franchise for snipers because they’re compct and have a low zoom. 3. Bring back perks from d1 such as unflinching or hidden hand or snapshot or quickdraw, these are the perks which made your sniper really great, and coming from a veteran, getting a roll like this from a vender is the best feeling in the world. P.S bring back snipers from d1 like longbow, 1000 yard stare, LDR and make them easy to get (like being able to get them from vanguard lvl ups) so that people actually have an objective other han logging in and doing he same milestones over and over again. P.S.S is it possible for you to change exotic engrams back to the way they were in d1? As in make them drop as either a primary, special, heavy... etc. and can you make it so you get packages from venders, so when you lvl up wig the vender you have a choice of 3 packages and they’re all different things like armor, weapons, or materials, like from d1, it gives the packages a sense of worth rather than them havung literally no worth other than leg shards and glimmer

          Where to begin... In the days of old before the house of wolves expansion, majority of my friends and I were what some call "shotgun apes" that knew nothing of strategy or tactics. Then you blessed us with a game mode called Trials of Osiris (bring it back plz <3) with hopes of getting that sweet loot, the extremely rare shaders and the only exotic emblem in destiny history. We played endlessly that first week in our attempts to make it to the lighthouse. We failed card after card using our same shotgunning ways...we would have small runs of success, but ultimately would fail time and time again to teams with at least 1 sniper rifle. By the last day or two of the first week of trials i decided to take it upon myself to learn how to snipe or "get good" for my fireteam. The sniper rifle that molded me into the player my fellow fireteam knew they could turn to when the night was darkest and no chance of success in sight was ICEBREAKER. I practiced all week long anticipating the next week of trials...game after game kill after kill, one pull of the triger at a time i was getting better... My determination and our hardwork as a team finally yielded us our just rewards (except my emblem inventory was full at the time so i didnt get the emblem until we went flawless again in week 3 lol). Ever since then it was impossible to check my loadout without seeing some sniper rifle equipped, i couldnt get enough. The thrill of a 1v3 while holding a sniper and still somehow feeling in control of a bad situation is something i haven't felt yet in d2. I'm not going to claim to be a pvp god or anything of the like, but i can say some of my best times in destiny was holding a sniper rifle in pvp. Unfortunately there is something that just haven't felt right about snipers when compared to d1...I wasn't 100% sure what the main issue was until watching this weeks episode of IGN's Fireteam Chat. They talk about the comparison of d1/d2 and how not everything can be the same, i understand that i agree with that. The biggest thing they talked about was that in d1 you could get shot while sniping and recover or fight the flinch in a way to still land a shot on your target. Now if you dont land 1 body shot then get sniper flinched going for the second body your going to fail most of the time. We've lost that ability to recover our aim and get nasty kills while fighting through flinch. Often times we appear to have fought the flinch, but bullets don't register somehow. This is the biggest concern i have, to combat this i do think flinch while sniping could be decreased slightly or buff unflinching sniper aim perks to actually make a noticeable impact. Some minor things i'd like to see are more short zoom scopes like ambush/shortgaze make a comeback. I'd love to see the supremacy get the ability to roll snapshot/moving target or snapshot/quickdraw. I'd love for more aggressive frame snipers with low zoom scopes get added to energy weapons to pair with last word. Seems right now most of the best snipers or at least that can 1 hit headshot people out of super are kinetic and cant obviously be paired with last word. Hit registration i think most people will agree in D1 was sometimes suspect...but in D2 its gotten slightly worse and more frequent. I'm sniping a little more now, but i've regressed back to a shotgun ape for too long now simply because of the inconsistency i see with snipers. Very high skilled players still snipe amazingly, i was never on par with them in D1...but i at least always thought with some luck i had a chance... Thanks for listening.

          -Reduce flinch especially since pulses are in the meta right now -Add more sniper scopes and variety -Snipers don’t feel rewarding when I could be useing a shotgun or telesto -A slight increase to aim assist on console at least will drastically improve snipers -Remove useless perks on sniper like hip fire grip -High impact snipers should be able to one shot supers if you hit them in the head -Ammo while using snipers needs to be changed when I snipe someone the only way to get that ammo is to go into shotgun range a way to fix is possibly giving 3 ammo on snipers on spawn. -If these changes were added I think it would bring a lot of players back to sniping.

        • Hey Dmg, I'd love to take this opportunity to talk about a glitchy issue I (and my friends) have noticed with snipers when aiming down sights. The issue is when you reload your sniper and then immediately aim down sights, the trigger jams or locks for a moment and you cannot fire the weapon. This is very disruptive of gameplay in PvP as every second counts. I would love if this was resolved so we can get back to a smooth and responsive experience with snipers. (I've had this happen on the Frigid Jackal, the Fate Cries Foul, and the Bite of the Fox). Additionally, I also believe sniper damage is still under par when it comes to defeating opponents in their supers. After hitting 3 headshots in 1 game against supers yesterday (Hammers and Spectral Blades) and getting no kills, this is something I think still needs to be addressed. I understand that supers are meant to be a special ability that makes a player difficult to defeat but I would like to be rewarded for my precision and skill when I do hit a headshot against an opponent in this state. It's a bit of a punch in the gut when you clutch a headshot on a super thats all over the place and you still can't beat them. I think 90 RPM and 72 RPM snipers should both be able to one shot supers. To me this falls under the category of bringing back "Hero Moments". Lastly, like most people I have spoken with, I believe snipers could use a large reduction in flinch and possibly a buff in handling (maybe bring Quickdraw back). Since shotguns can roll with quickdraw (and snipers cannot) I think it is fair that snipers have competitive handling as well especially since they have a higher skill gap. Side note: I would love to see the return of Shortgaze 10 and the Ambush scopes in Many different snipers. This is probably less likely to happen so I left it for last. Even a return in old snipers such as the LDR1001, Longbow Synthesis and the 1000 Yard Stare would be amazing. Speaking of D1 , sniper bounties and vendor rolls in D1 were a great way to grind for rolls or purchase rolls that you have been looking for if your RNG has been bad. I really hope you guys get to read this and consider some of these thoughts. I am a passionate fan of destiny who has been dedicated to sniping for over 3 years and these weapons mean a lot to me. I love what you did to improve the special ammo economy in D2 and I'm hopeful that snipers will be equally improved. Thank you for the opportunity to give you feedback!

            • Bungie, I am a year one house of wolves player, and I have over 3000 sniper kills, I have primarily used sniper throughout all of destiny 1 and 2. Since the sniper nerfs in year three that drastically increasing sniper flinch, snipers have been continually phased out of the meta. With close proximity map design and easily accessible and learnable shotguns, they have always been prevalent in the meta ranging from felwinters lie, Matador, party crasher and now dustrock and mind-benders. With all of the options for great shotguns we have very few for snipers, and between those few being fate cries fowl and bite of the fox there are no good scopes which allow to closer up sniper play (shortgaze, ambush). In order for snipers to be truly viable flinch should be significantly reduced, you should not lose a fight with a sniper just because your opponent got the first shot with their primary. Handling on snipes if fine because of the addition of perks like enhanced sniper dexterity. Flinch needs to be turned down.

            • As someone who has always loved and used sniper rifles in PVP, regardless of the meta, I must say: Please. Please. PLEASE reduce the scope zoom on scopes that are described as "low zoom scopes."

            • Hey! I'm mostly gonna talk for PVP because I think PVE Snipers are not that much of a problem. For me snipers in D1 were the sweet spot. In D1 players were unhapppy because some people were sniping large lane without moving at all. The level design (maps) in D2 doesn't very have that. In my opinion snipers as well as shotguns and FR should have the same privilege. - Is it possible to kill a Super with a shotgun/melee? If yes, then increase the damage for snipers in the head for roaming supers. If not, keep it like that. (Personally I think both should be able kill a super but that's my opinion. - Sniper, Shotguns, Fusion Rifle should have the same amount of ammo. (Better for the balance) To be honest if you think you don't have enough ammo with 2 bullets then get some gear with ammo reserve/ scavenger. 2 Bullets to me mean 2 kills. In my opinion it's fine as it is. - Flinch is the biggest problem here I think, there should be some flinch on the holder when someone is shooting at them but the flinch should be less punishing. It takes a 1 second (I don't know the exact time it's an example) to reaim the target without being shot (it's a lot), maybe just being less agressive or something. - Skills in a pretty big factor, snipers in my opinion is way more difficult to use then a FR or a SG. So with that in mind should it be HighRisk/HighReward? Such as killing supers or anything else. For Ps4 it's not difficult to aim with a sniper because of the aim assist. Otherwise on PC it's a lot more difficult so take that in mind. I'm not saying you should put aim assist on snipers on PC. On PC the risk is too high to play a sniper because shotguns and fusions are very easy to use and doesn't require a lot of skills. - Buff Snipers don't nerf other gun classes. Decrease draw time for example. - LDR from D1 and others with short zoom/quick draw were very appreciated. I'll list in order what is changes that should be make. 1- Flinch changes 2- Put Snipers as good as other gun classes (Headshot super kills?) 3- Bring back short zoom/Quick draw snipers to the game (such as LDR) That's my thoughts, I've played since the Beta of D1 and I think it should be usefull info.
