Anthem isnt as good as I thought

So after 12 hours on xbox i got in. I played a couple of missions on hard with my ranger javelin. Got to admitt i had no -blam!-ing idea what was going on. I just spammed buttons hoping to god things would die. It looked cool, but playing it didnt feel as refined as I hoped. • You didn’t play enough. 1. Anthem isn’t a shooter. Unlike Destiny, where you do most of your damage with your guns and then add your abilities in top of that, the rhythm of combat in Anthem is you do the bulk of your damage with your abilities. Then do damage with your guns while you wait for your ability cooldowns to reset. BioWare didn’t do a good job of explaining this. 2. Because of this, chaining ability attacks and “team shooting” with abilities is important. Today I got to play strongholds with randoms who seemed to finally “get” this...and they went MUCH better. 3. Each of the javelins play VERY differently. In many ways the Ranger is the easiest to play but the least effective. Especially when everyone is using them. The Storm is STUPIDLY power. It isn’t a glass cannon, it is a glass NUKE once you understand how to use abilities properly. The Interceptor (watching other people play it) is also incredibly powerful when used by someone who understands the ability-based, hit-and-run play style it was designed for. BioWare should have called this the BETA that it actually was instead of a demo. The combat in the game is a LOT of fun, but there is a pretty big learning curve because it’s unique....and if you try to do most of your damage with guns the game will be a frustrating struggle.

    • I agree with you. I was expecting a much better experience. Way too buggy. This has me concerned about launch. We all called D2 to be a weaker, watered down version of D1 after playing the Beta. After playing the Anthem Alpha Test this past weekend there’s major work to be done prior to launch.

        • I played the first mission on easy, and spent a little time flying and attacking at the same time. Really like the combat, but everything is a bullet sponge.

          • I know that the demo has a few performance problems but BioWare allready said that all VIP players get an additional skin for the torture. Except that I have no problems with Anthem right now. Only the lag of the network I used to play the demo was annoying but everything else seems fine. You sure you played the right game?

I keep seeing people saying that the Spider Stronghold boss is better than Destiny raid bosses.
they add in the obligatory I've played since vanilla D1, so I know what I'm talking about
Maybe it's just because it's a demo but that stronghold boss was not difficult, just long and boring. The enemy spawns were way too predictable since they only came out of one hole at a time.

              • They designed it with the intent of pushing cooperative play out of the ass. They want it to be like an MMO in the sense of playing off the abilities of your teammates without everything else that comes with an MMO that actually makes those good. One thing I hate about these live service shared world games, they're all just poor mans' MMOs. At least Destiny can still be played solo with little downfall(excluding raids for obvious reasons), but Anthem seems way too focused on playing with a full four-man team to get anything out of it. For a 60+ dollar initial purchase, the price of live services on console, and the fact that it's a looter in a game that won't be around whenever you want it to, not interested.

                • Game is awesome, even with all the bugs currently plaguing the demo. I’d play it in t It’s current state over the piece of shut that is Destiny any day.

                    • Been saying this since I played the alpha. I'll never understand the appeal of these types of games (Anthem, Destiny, Division, etc.), they all play and feel like entry level RPGs.

                      • W played different games it seems, I mean the game does kinda just drop you in it but there’re plants of ways to figure things out and the stronghold which is basically a dungeon is better than most raids I’ve done be they on Destiny 1, 2, ESO etc.

                            • No proper tutorial to ease you into it with this demo, fortunately i already knew how to play from the Alpha so got on pretty well with it. Unlocked the Storm tonight, and wow, this actually feels seriously fun to play, far better than the Ranger i think

Haven't played yet, but the gameplay I watched reminded me of crappy DC Universe Online that I tried years ago. I hope it doesn't feel like it.

                                  • I haven’t played it yet. I’ll be waiting for the full release then see if it grabs me. My buddy played this beta and seemed to really enjoy it. I know there are criticisms about it already but I try to keep in mind : it’s a beta and when these games launch they all have their opening issues that need playtime to shine a light on. This game will need time to grow into its own thing.

                                  • I only got an hour to play yesterday and haven’t been able to play since due to the infinite loading screen bug. But the way they do loot seems really annoying. Am I missing something or does the game not let you change weapons during gameplay? As far as I can tell the only way to equip a new weapon is to go back to Fort Tarsis and equip it there. So if you want to try a new gun you have to go back to Fort Tarsis, equip it, then load into free play or a mission to try it out. But maybe I just missed something?

                                  • The gameplay itself is pretty excellent. The framework around that gameplay is, like Destiny, not so great. Basically, it’s a good game hampered by, of all things, a bad menu system and (IMO) a questionable approach to loot.
