Is there any reason why God flood the earth?

Like pretty much all of Genesis, I think it's either allegory, a way to explain why the world is how it is, or both. I think of it the same as how Zeus's powers explained lightning before lightning could be understood. But, I'm an atheist, so it makes sense for me to view it the same as mythology.

Because the Forerunner killed the Precursors and the only surviving Precursors became dust that malfunctioned and because of that the Flood were created and wiped the the floor with the Forerunner and then the Halo rings were used, only for the Flood to outbreak again on Delta Halo in 2552... 14 Replies1) Humanity became so evil it would have destroyed itself due to the accelerated exposure to sciences and crafts prematurely introduced by a group of Angelic beings. Their thoughts and deeds were always evil. 2) A group of Angelic beings bred with human women creating a fallen race of hybrids called nephilim that only contributed more to the evil in the world. Instead of wiping out all of life, God preserved a remnant to repopulate the world. Towards the end of all things, humanity will be at a level of evil that rivals that of humanity just before the flood.
