The only way people would return to the comp play list is if there was a perceived attainable loot. The perception is that the loot is unattainable which for the most part is true. If you were good enough to get luna you would have already. Unless you have an equal skill team which is also motivated not forgotten is not for you. So why would anyone play this game mode outside of getting paid by doing recoveries or carries. The way you fix this is to fix scoring and mm. The way you fix scoring to gain players is to remove loss penalties. You win you get points you win in a streak the point amplify. You lose your streak end you do not lose points. You can argue that it makes the guns less special. I would argue who cares for guns being gatekept by paid recoveries and carries. Regardless if they are doing if for cash or viewers they are actively harming the community by gatekeeping. If players time was not at risk of being wasted by losses removing hours of work, and that the losses suffered from people leaving matches, unfair teams, stacks would not be such a huge burden maybe more than 2% of the community would play. So you can either keep the "prestige" of a gun more that likely was acquired with paypal or you can open it up to the community so that we actually will play a game mode and earn the gun.

The main problem here is not match making. Doesn't matter what they decide to implement, the player base is too low. According to destiny Tracker, there were 677.400 players yesterday playing pvp. 34% of player population, are pc players (however, it might not be exactly 37% of pvpers, since apparently it's the total). Still let's go with that. according to this: https://warmind.io/activity So that makes already 230.316 players. Now, also according to charlemagne , 1.3% of them play comp, which means about 3k ppl. So 3k people worldwide over a period of 24 hours. Now here, i'm going to throw some numbers: Let's give NA about 40% of the population (def it's more than 1/3, since there are only 3 regions and NA is always more populated). If we give 40% of the player base to NA, that's 1200ppl over 24 hours 1200/24 would not be fair to get an 'hourly' based average, because there are peak hours, but if we can say that in 24 hours there are 1200 players, safely, in 2 or 3 hours, there is only a fraction of that, maybe 10% ? So at a given time, you're going to be playing about 120 players. If you are better than 50% of the population, which is not difficult, you'll be most likely queuing against 60 players all the time. It's probably worse during "try hard times", where this number prob cuts in half and the average of player skill increases. If you are better than 70% of the population, you will be queuing against 36 people. That's 9 teams. And it feels even worse than that, to be honest.

Do you know why people in the Guardian and Brave ranks face LH users? Because many of those LH users already hit Legend, reset and are now farming lower tier/skilled people in order to get their NF.
-
Honestly it’s not much better. Now you get matched up against full teams even more.

It's a little bit of a misnomer. The system will not account for resets. Still better than nuthin I guess...
-
Yeah. Nah. Nope. I'm still only playing this crap because I'm waiting for ANTHEM to release.

I made it to 2500 this season and last by playing solo. But if this change means other people that are much better than I am will be on my team. Then I am happy for the update. Cause I'm tired of trying to carry 3 turds almost every match. I should be the one getting carried. I want to see these "elite" players that people keep talking about that are so good at the game and I want them on my team for once. Every now and then I get good players though, thankfully. But when you match with a 3 stack and they have a 1.9kd, but you carry them. Something is off here. Also, I hope this fixes the cheaters in pvp. Cause once you hit 2500, almost every match becomes delayed (flying in orbit for 10 minutes rather than 1 and a half), lag is more consistent, I've been ddosed twice now. And I hope it changes the game so I don't face the same people that just beat me the previous match. Whats the point in that? One night I played the same people 4 matches in a row and lost 3 of out of the 4. Also, I want to match with people in my bracket, not people at 5500 (they are beatable) while having people at 500 glory on my team. I love comp so I'll play it regardless.
-
Too little too late, no one plays it anyway
-
Your first mistake was playing comp
-
Question it's out is it any better.
-
Not many people I'd say. First off, this is Bungie and D2 PvP. Two jokes in the industry right now. Chances of it being fixed to the extent anyone is expecitng...I'd say about zero. Second - https://warmind.io/activity - Competitive is a barely played mode. So the vast majority of the general D2 population won't even notice.
-
I am as well but somethings gotta be done about quitting not gonna help if its 2-3v4 they need to really starting handing out 1 week bans if you quit more than 2 games in a week
-
Changes are live. Let me know what you think after you've played a good amount of matches.
-
This could all be fixed if they copied Overwatch, I don't understand Bungie at all.
-
I'm bloody thrilled mate. I've been 300 points away from my lunas howl for 2 weeks because of players with a much higher ranking coming in and stomping me. Can. NOT. Wait.
-
The only road to recovery for Comp. is the reinstatement of Trials, the Original Sweatfest.
-
Until they remove the point-loss system, these changes are meaningless and will not help keep/bring back the majority of the player base.
-
This game is quite literally designed to cater to the top 1% of pvp players. That will never change.
-
Edited by name: 1/15/2019 3:19:54 PMid be more excited if they would finally add optional matchmaking for everything in the game , or add AI bots to fill teams, or simply scale content based on amount of players so everyone can complete stuff solo
-
I don' think it matters. 2% of the community play comp and 1.5 of that is recoveries. Its too late for comp. Most people will never step in the playlist and it will continue to be a revenue stream for recoveries and carries. I'm happy with my Luna and don't believe a few meters in range is worth hours of frustration.
-
what are the changes?
-
I wouldn't hold my breath: be prepared for an endless array of weasel and boar errors, among others. Nothing has changed from 3 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/37m8bh/i_was_ip_booted_from_a_match_in_trials_of_osiris/
-
Don't get hyped. You WILL be disappointed. I think we all want it to be better, but since vanilla D1 I can't remember them ever really fixing matchmaking. It's a myth.
-
Yeah comp matchmaking will be at least loosely based on your rank.....How in the hell was that not the standard? Just shows how bad off the game is that this deserves discussion.
