I stopped playing D2 a few weeks ago because of burnout. So I understand if people disregard my opinion, but this scenario and the gating of content I equated to a hypothetical instances. Let's say you, the reader/player, is hungry and wants a Big Mac, easier to relate to. You go to McDonald's, and order a Big Mac. Instead of getting the whole burger, the cashier gives you only the bottom bun and one of the meat patties. They then tell you that the middle bread and second meat patty is coming in 1 hour. Until then the McDonald's staff slowly gives you each ingredient (lettuce, tomato, etc.)every 5 minutes, but only for the bottom portion (remember a Big Mac has a top portion). An hour passes and they finally give you the second meat patty and the middle bread. You can't really walk away now since you've already paid for it in full. They tell you that the top bun is coming along with the rest of the ingredients (lettuce, tomato, etc.) in another hour. You wait, and get all the remaining ingredients every five minutes except the top bun. McDonald's staff tells you that in order to get the top bun you have to scavenge hunt around restaurant for the sesame seeds. They don't tell you if you have to find each individual seed, or is it portioned out. They just say you have to find it. Pretty sure if this were to happen in real life you would've asked for a refund and left.

  • There is no tomato on a Big Mac!

  • You are right. Haven't had a Big Mac in years. I picked something where a good sum of people can relate to. Yes, you are correct. I had to actually sing their jingle just to remember just now.

  • Analogy doesn't really hold. If you go to McDonald's for a Big Mac, you know what you're ordering - a Big Mac. When most players bought the Annual Pass, they didn't really know what was coming in Black Armoury. Its more like going to McDonald's for a Big Mac, but the cashier stops you and says, "Sure you could have a Big Mac, but wouldn't you rather try our new Myyysssttteerry burger? We think you'll love it!" You're intrigued, even excited, so you order it. They proceed to do what you posted, and you're left with a shitty burger. They didn't really lie to you... Maybe you should have waited for the sap next to you to risk the Mystery burger, so you could find out if it was for you, before buying. I do get what you're saying, though. Personally, I disagree, I don't think Bungie gave us a shitty burger. I like what they were going for with Niobe labs, just bungled the execution. I'm hoping they try something similar in the next DLCs, but maybe with some more playtesting first.

While I do compare them to each other. My intention was neither to say that Destiny 2 is a terrible game, nor to say that Bungie is a terrible company. The Destiny franchise is, actually, a pretty good one. In fact, I like the MMO-looter/shooter concept that Bungie established with Destiny. The comparison to McDonald's and the Big Mac was to try to have more people relate to the scenario. Now, the analogy was not perfect as, off the top of my head, this is the only instance where a consumer purchases something based off of a company's past products without having something tangible. The only other one I can think of are magazine subscriptions. Where the consumer pays for the whole year for 12, 13 if you subscribed to Sports Illustrated, magazines. I also wrote the comment above after reading a Polygon article, and reading most of the responses in the Bungie forums. I can only speak for myself, but this is lesson for me not to purchase Season Passes. Again, I stopped playing not because of something Bungie did. I stopped merely because I am exhausted from the grind. This is not isolated with just Destiny 2. It happens to me for all MMOs. Although, I am curious as to how long it took Bungie to complete the puzzle during testing.
