Astronomers have revealed details of mysterious signals emanating from a distant galaxy, picked up by a telescope in Canada.
The precise nature and origin of the blasts of radio waves is unknown.
Among the 13 fast radio bursts, known as FRBs, was a very unusual repeating signal, coming from the same source about 1.5 billion light years away.
Such an event has only been reported once before, by a different telescope.
"Knowing that there is another suggests that there could be more out there," said Ingrid Stairs, an astrophysicist from the University of British Columbia (UBC).
"And with more repeaters and more sources available for study, we may be able to understand these cosmic puzzles - where they're from and what causes them."
The CHIME observatory, located in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, consists of four 100-metre-long, semi-cylindrical antennas, which scan the entire northern sky each day.
The telescope only got up and running last year, detecting 13 of the radio bursts almost immediately, including the repeater.
I want to believe.

Extraterrestrial: I helped colonize this planet, so that you could incarnate here. Human: I helped destroy this planet, it's people resources enviroment. Like watching toilet paper go down a toilet bowl. Imagine how they feel about what we have done to this place.

great, when do we get off this planet

Whatever they're from, they'd be ancient to prehistoric in origin, so I wouldn't be too quick to think they're from ET phoning home.

Well I’m sure an outdated, million year old distress signal won’t be relevant anymore. CONTINUES SWEEPING

1 ReplyI'm not entirely sure so correct me if I'm wrong (in a civil way) aren't there other stuff in space that can emit radio signles such a say super novas, neutron stars, black holes, magnetars,(idk if I spelled that right) gamma bursts and other cool space stuff.

Interesting. Just like all things there are good bad and some in between. The duality. Be cautious but understanding. Be loving but aware... Don't get lost my friend.

Remember, fellow humans: We got the best chances in a guerilla war on the ground If they make it here, it means they are technologically more advanced. They could be millions of years ahead of us. In an open war we can not succeed. Our advantage is that we are at home and know the planet. We will not be able to defeat them, but we can demoralize them and drive them off our planet. They might just blow up the whole planet, because they see us as a rising power and threat, in which case we are doomed. That's very unlikely though. It is more likely that they want to erase us or do not care about us, and it is also likely that they want our ressources that we need ourselves. It is crucial that as soon as the extraterrestrial invaders enter our atmosphere, we must open fire on them. We must show them from the very beginning that this is our planet, that they are not welcome here and will be met with maximum resistance during their whole stay.

Hypothetical thought What if that signal was actually from our future selves messing with the effects of time travel by traveling vast distances in short periods of time via wormholes and we thought it would be hilarious to send a signal to our past generations (us) to make them think that it was aliens.
-
it lowkey could be a black hole trapping signals outside of the event horizion and a few break free every so often
-
I really hope this is real

Edited by Uncanny_Vale: 1/10/2019 12:38:44 PMI’ve been reading about FRB’s for years - they’ve detected loads of them. There’s a lot of different hypotheses (most of which I don’t understand) but the aliens explanation is not very probable. Pretty sure most astronomers believe they are the result of the merging of massive objects like black holes or neutron stars or something.

I doubt it being real. But it could be a possibility.
