Even nowadays we have satellites that can detect approaching asteroids and meteors from millions of miles away, so how exactly did the Covenant land on Reach without being detected by human technology 500 years more advanced than what we have currently? I don't recall there ever being mention of stealth ships, and we can clearly see in Night of Solace that when a Covenant vessel enters Reach airspace via slip space, Auntie Dot can detect it and announce their presence.
So what gives?

If any of the old fall of reach book still counts (and most of it does bar the final few chapters without much more fuss), the Covanant could get to Reach "undetected" because of Slip-space jumps. They, unlike humans, can pinpoint jump to precisely wherever they want to be. Also, it wasn't in the game but the book, there were warning signs of a covanant attack from an observation post. Objects in the slip.

Even if we detected the Covies, they would still own us
-
Slipspace.

It was the BOBs they were here all along!
Posted by: Tale You didn't hear about stealth ships? They even mentioned one specifically in the campaign, the first supercarrier.
Indeed they did. When you destroy the first strange Tower with the force field. It reveals its self and blows the UNSC Frigate clean out of the sky. [Edited on 09.30.2010 4:19 AM PDT]

The Covanent said they were delivering a pizza to Noble Team. It was a trap.
-
Quanza?
-
lol u learnt that off that movie the other week about those oil rig guys going to outer space to destroy the mega comet
-
Pretty sure wizards did it
-
I think its funny how the covenant were able to build these huge spires without anyone noticing.
Posted by: Sergeant Kyuun This is what, 500 years after the present? Technology advances over time. Plus, isn't it stated that the Covenant are over a thousand years ahead of humans in the Halo Universe?
Sure but why bother cloaking the one ship when they end up surrounding Reach anyway?

I'll say the same thing I posted in a thread a while ago.
They stole that one sheet of paper that had the entire defense grid on it then invaded and Price was like "lol no worries I'll nuke the sky and kill an astronaut".
active camo while crouched, which would explain why the humans couldnt see them and how the UNSC radar was jammed
-
I was wondering the same thing>I thought the planet was like surrounded by MAC Canons and a huge Human fleet and that it took an assault by a small covenant force to slip past those defenses. That's by the book though so who knows. Although a SUPER carrier slipping in planet side seems a little strange.

they had tacos warped down and the Mexicans (that has taken over seines 20010) swarmed to get the tacos, with all the Mexicans running around all the equipment was waking out and that's how they got in!
Posted by: Buckysaurus
Posted by: Deathspell That's a good question. Could the invisible super carrier be the answer?
What about radar....satellites ....telescopes? (Wait....telescopes=never mind)
Considering we can already fool radar much more easily than we can make something disappear visually, I'd imagine the covenant can cloak their ships from those methods too.

The covenant are experts in cloaking Grunts, Elites, Vehicles, Ships, Cows, Brutes, and buildings. After they were detected they were like "-blam!- it, glass this -blam!-!"
-
they posed as pizza delivery men.
-
it is called being invisible

Also, the Covenant Supercarrier had stealth systems engaged. It can easily slip by that way (the Covenant simply usually doesn't because they are typically out to destroy the planet, whereas they were looking for something on Reach). The fleet didn't have stealth systems engaged because they're obviously set to obliterate.
I can't argue the point about bullets. lol

idk what everyone else said didn't read em but the covenant can make pinpoint slip space jumps in mass which is what they did to take down reach (which the humans later(with the help of cortana) figured out how to do) and i guess the humans can only tell whats coming a few seconds before it actually get there. and why the eff didn't bungie make the story about kelly, fred, whoever else, and master cheif going to reach and basically doing to the same thing except master chief escaped.
-
A wizard did it.
Posted by: Kylar4777 why dont you read the book and find out. its called the fall of reach.
That's not very helpful. The new game retconed a lot of stuff from the books.
