Easiest ways to kill brutes... on Legendary! (damn their rough skin!)
Mission 6 kept on raping me over and over again. The brutes could take so much damage and they didn't even have sheilds except chieftains. When I first fought them I used my dmr to kill them in the head (harder then you think) they move alot and use those gad damn concussion rifles
So I thought long and hard on how to kill the A-holes... and then it came to me, there biggest downfall is that they have no shields. But you might say, "there skin practically is a shield". When you take out a person's shield it takes like 5 or more shots in the body to finish them with a DMR.
I tried it on the brutes... of course it didnt work (damn their rough skin). And then the idea came! The DMR can't kill them in a few shots but the needle rifle can!!! When player shields is down it takes only 3 shots in a row to cause needle explosion. I tried this and I shot the brutes 3 times in row at their rough skin and they went asplode, cuz they dont got no shield =)
Interestingly Bungie knew about this so they gave every brute armor lock, so shoot them 3 times quickly before they armor lock. The needler will also work by the way. If there is a chieftain, plasma charge, 3 shots. There you go, this will come in handy for the rest of the mission. Your welcome =)

Needlers work amazing on brutes and it only takes about 3 shots with a Needle Rifle to make them explode into a purple mist too plasma pistols work suprisingly well if you're not surrounded by them

Automatic weapons are suprisingly useful on them, along with melees. To be honest, they can be killed relatively quickly with any weapon provided you use it right and they don't Armour Lock. Hell, to be perfectly honest, I prefer fighting Brutes on this game than Jackals because of how easy they are to kill.

Without a doubt, needlers and needle rifles work the best. 3-4 shots with the needle rifle for an insta-kill super-combine, and 5-7 with the needler. Here's some evidence to back up my pro- pink mist stance: [url]http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/GameStats.aspx?gameid=131988142&player=RCTSon[/url] Heroic, with tilt. Weapon of Destruction was the needler. 33 kills with the needler with only 1 death from killing a civilian. Still got a flawless cowboy. I'm only so insistent about the needler and needle rifle for brutes because it seems most people seem to think 3 or 4 precisely aimed headshots are better than a spray of pink needles. Brutes are easy as hell on legendary, I dunno what you're smokin... then again, I aimed for the head and just killed them with three shots of the DMR... Only ones that are a challenge are the chieftains... hell they take two sniper headshots to take down. [Edited on 09.29.2010 1:12 PM PDT]

One time I was backpedaling from a charging hammer chieftain, took over two clips from my AR to kill him.
