Wei Ning. A legendary Titan; possible member of the Firebreak order; and hero of the City. This post intends to cover as much of her story as we currently know. From her first death to her last. [b]Awakening:[/b] From the striker subclass mission in D2, we learn about Wei Ning’s first revival as a guardian and what occurred to her closely after. [quote]When my Ghost found me — when I was reborn as a Titan — she found me in a desert. I had died far from civilization, far from anything I could have possibly used to defend myself. I had the armor she made me, flimsy as it was, and a thousand miles to walk to get to what she said was my new home. Of course, we ran into problems. Bandits, first, with guns scavenged from who knows where. My second death was terrifying. But I got back up, and the night sky sparkled overhead, and the man that killed me stared aghast, and I laughed. Immortal! Me! I could do anything! So I threw myself at him. If my body couldn't be broken, then that was my greatest weapon, greater than any gun that could jam or knife that could dull. Each punch and charge and kick would only sharpen my skills. I taught the Strikers this truth. The fastest and surest way to a Guardian's victory is to rush headlong into that danger. Be unafraid. You are the lightning, and the thunder after it.[/quote] - Shard of the Traveler (Striker) This basic idea would become the main philosophy of the Striker Titans. Whether it’s a thundercrasher, Roaming Striker or Panic Slammer, this is their basic idea. [b]The Great Hunt:[/b] For those who haven’t heard of the Ahamkara as more than a legend, listen well. The great hunt is the sole reason for this myth-like status. Guardians declared the Ahamkara were too powerful and far to dangerous, with their “wishes” leading many a guardian to their final deaths. Many Guardians partook in the hunt...Wei Ning was one of them. Standing alongside Eris Morn on Venus, they slew seven “wish dragons” in the space of a day. [quote] Venus. The Great Hunt. The Ahamkara refused to die. For a day, Wei-Ning had been fighting it to a standstill with her bare hands, cratering it repeatedly into the ground. Eris had seen wish-dragons drive Titans mad by refusing to fall to brute strength. But Eris was pretty sure Wei-Ning was already insane. "Confession time," the Titan said, as she hammered punches into the Ahamkara's tentacled face. "I've been wishing this fight would go on forever." Eris balked. "Please stop, you psychopath. We have six others to handle!" "No, no. We want this. Trust me," Wei-Ning said. An hour later, six shapes emerged from the Venusian foliage. Ahamkara. Their compatriot, whom Wei-Ning continued to pound into the ground, was pulsating, growing stronger. Feeding. The others had come to feast at the same table.[/quote] - Vest of the Great Hunt The tab reinforces her love of fighting and her extreme use of melee combat, but also shows her use of strategy, as shown by tempting the other Ahamkara out of hiding. Whether this is due to their want for food, and it being provided, or their desire to feed on Wei Ning’s desires of a fight, it stills displays some strategic thinking. [b]Guardian of the city:[/b] Wei-Ning is know for many things. To the Firebreak order, it’s her Kindling of the ‘Fire Victorious’. A key trophy to their order. [quote] Z: "You singlehandedly carried the Fire Victorious from the City as it fell, ensuring that the flames first kindled by Wei Ning so many years ago would continue to burn. For that, we thank you." CY: "Any of the Firebreak Order would have done as much." [/quote] - Fire Victorious Shell However most people know her for her relationship with the warlock, Eriana-3. Stormcaller and member of the Praxic Fire order of warlocks. Pahanin, a hunter (and member of Kabr’s fireteam) introduces the two at a saloon in the tower. [quote] Our first meeting, in the Tower saloon. Your laugh made the glasses clatter. You bought three rounds for the entire room. Pahanin introduced us. You sat me down next to you and plied me with questions about Stormtrances. All things that on any other night would have annoyed me. But that night—because it was you—I knew then and there that I never wanted to be without you.[/quote] - Eriana’s Vengeance After a match in the crucible, Wei Ning overheard a conversation between some of her opponents. They were jealous that she continued to win without the use of a weapon. Out of anger she went to punch a mountain, supposedly causing it to move (a very microscopic shudder). Ning goes on to comment about how they (everyone else), would regret heavy reliance on weapons. [quote]“I tell you,” Ning grunted, shattering granite, “someday they'll lose their smart guns and fancy ships, and then they'll wish they'd listened! There's one weapon you can always count on, and it's your strong hand.” [/quote] - Fighting Lion Her ghost goes on to use Eriana-3 to influence the Titan to lose her rage and be more “constructive”. [quote] “Eriana would be sad to hear you dismissing machines.” Her Ghost bobbed slyly up to her shoulder. “Eriana would ask if those mighty hands could build a machine in the image of your strength. Just like she was made in the image of a woman.” Wei Ning tapped her fists together. “Huh,” she said.[/quote] - Fighting Lion [b]The Great Disaster:[/b] Like many other guardians, Wei Ning’s story ends with Crota. The Great Disaster. Arguably one of the Light’s greatest loses. The event that lost us the moon. [quote] It showed me the battle. It showed me Wei Ning dead on Crota's blade. It showed me how Crota killed a Guardian with a screaming knife hammered out of his own Ghost. [/quote] - Ghost Fragment: Warlock 2 The hive took her Cong as a trophy for their victory against the famed Titan. [quote] "This ancient jade artifact has been in the Hive's possession ever since Wei Ning's heroic death." [/quote] - Wei Ning’s Cong Whilst the basic idea of Wei Ning’s story is there, other events are bound to have occurred in her life, however that is where we must leave it for now.
