The Drifter: a brief story summary and analysis

Alright alright alright let's get into this. With forsaken many characters that lean towards the darker side of the franchise have now been introduced into the main game, the awoken, Spider, the Barons, but most importantly Dr fiter (or whatever that meme was) himself! Today I'll be talking you guys and gals on a little trip to the derelict, y'all ready brother? Sister? Let's get a recap Now Drifter was first revived by his Ghost in one of the worst most confusing time for early Guardians, the dark age. There was no tower, no city, and no Ghost's that knew how to properly identify a worthy Guardian. This was the time of the Risen, being's that would eventually become the Guardians we know today but without the the travelers light to guide them. Many Risen decided to fallow their own path, some decided to use their power for themselves becoming the blood thirsty War Lord's, others decide to use their new found abilities to protect the weak, becoming Iron Lord's. But Drifter? He became a bar owner... Yeah that about it, he decided to open a bar. Now while his exact motives for doing this are unknown, we can see in the breakneck lore tab that it aloud him to get into close contact with war Lord's, probably using any information he could pick up from the drunk killers for himself. After the Dark age the Iron Lord's built the city, the last stand of humanity beneath a silent and dead Traveler. Drifter being the special snowflake he is decided to ditch earth and explore off world, off Solar system in fact. What fallows is the story we're all well acquainted with The Drifter formed a crew and got stranded on an alien world, with horrific freezing temperatures and dark abominations hunting the crew at every turn. Times where tuff, the gang did everything the could to survive yet always ready to pull a gun on anyone about to step out of line. Years passed and mind's shattered, the crew became raving lunatics due to the sheer cold and horrendous paranoia. That was... Untill a legion came and snuffed the last thing that kept them from snapping, Ghual took the light and the crew was defenseless. Within seconds the gang pulled guns out and threatened to paint the walls red, thinking that one of them had something to do with their current state. Drifter killed 'em.. all of them, and then something weird happened. Drifter found a creature, frozen but still conscious of what was around it. He decided to take it with him as he mysteriously found a way to escape the planet and return to warmer climates, destination earth. Now again we see a massive jump in status, some how Drifter discovered a ship containing weird and dangerous alien artifacts and the ability to open dimensional rifts filled with Taken. What does he do with this power? Get drunk and decides to use his new found score to make a game, to lure Guardians into joining his way of thinking Drifter became associated with the shadows of Yor for a brief time, but eventually fell out of organization due to a conflict with a member known as Callum Sol. But it wasn't long before notorious shadow hunter Shin Malphur caught wind of little hero and his intriguing acts. The two met in a bar, both determined to unravel one another but neither giving an inch. The concocted a plan, a plan to lure Guardians who couldn't restrain themselves from the blood bath of war and were at risk of falling into Darkness And so gambit was formed, and the cold war between Drifter and Shin Malphur began. Drifter was aloud by Shin to return to the city, and set up his gambit. But Drifter isn't a fan of working for people like Mr Golden gun, and is in the process of finding a way to get out of the deal while still running gambit. So thats about it, Drifters story line up to this point. Now I'd like to talk really quickly about the Dredgen title and how Shin is portrayed in the lore book... So yeah here we go: I don't think the Dredgen title is actually real. Yeah that's about it. I think it's a ploy to lure out the real shadows, if people go around claiming that they're tuff sh*t then someone over at the shadows lair will snap and spill the beans. I also think that Shin is pulling a batman on us, trying to freak us out and using fear to hide his identity. Drifter talks a big game when he tells us about Shin, which is exactly what Malphur wants. He wants to scare us so we think twice before falling too deep. Alright that's it, sorry if my writing is a bit sloppy or if I skimmed over something too quickly. I hope you all enjoy and happy new year

  • Nothing beats the drifters tale besides saint-14 on mercury The drifter defiantly has some rank to his name especially after cayde mentioning him in his audio chests and I can’t wait to delve into his past and Lear about how raw it was on that icy cold planet
