What an absurd solution to the terrible connection issues in PvP!

So players will receive a warning if their connection is bad and if it doesn't get any better after the warning you get banned from PvP activities for two weeks? TWO WEEKS?! That's only going to deteriorate the player base even further than what it is now. So much for the PvP milestone I guess. You want to know how to alleviate some of the connection issues in crucible? GET. DEDICATED. SERVERS. To all who think this is a good idea: I have very good internet connection but I still experience issues from time to time. If you think you're exempt from this bad connection PvP ban because you have good connection, you're wrong. SOMETHING is going to happen and it will affect you in some way. I never said dedicated servers would fix all of the issues. It would help though. Lets not delude ourselves. There's a reason every other PvP related game has them. Remember what happened when The Dawning first came out? There were issues with connectivity everywhere! Not because our internet sucked but because THEIR SERVERS SUCKED! Imagine something like that happening again while trying to play crucible. You'd get banned from an issue on their side. This happens every now and then in gambit too but it's not your connection. Someone could leave mid loading screen (flying into a match) and cause a major black screen and cause the game to error code and that alone is enough to give you a ban warning. That's not your internet sucking. That's all them (Bungie).

Glad i didnt pay for the anual pass and stopped paying bungie after forsaken. I spent way to much money already i bought destiny 3 times so my bf and nephew can play together wich used to be fun but dont play that much anymore so much problems with the game and rude people

  • Having dedicated servers will not fix your crappy connection. If I live in Phoenix, and am playing against someone in Vegas, i don’t want my game to run through the server in Seattle. Stop complaining and fix your connection.

    • It's a great solution, and the ban is only for consistent connection issues.

Bungie is just flexin their incompetence. I mean, to ban people for lag in a game without dedicated servers is probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. We pay more than enough money for this game to have dedicated servers, the fact that Bungie defends their shitty P2P system that belongs in 2005 is pretty sad. I’ve got a great internet connection, have ports forwarded and my PS4 is set up with a static IP but when the comp player base is so low that I get matched with players outside of Australia I get lag. Lag bans without dedicated servers or strict region locking is laughable.

      • Bungie has said something about fixing it to where if they notice a constant unstable connection, youll be barred from PvP.

        • I have a feeling my days playing PvP are numbered. Just judging by the amount of disconnects and times I've been put on blackscreen since BA came out I can tell that I'm going to be marked for purging. I guess as an adult I should be less upset about not being able to play a videogame but it still feels like a kick in the gut after all the hours I have put into playing PvP. There have been a few things in PvP that have made me mad over the last year but its still one of my favorite hobbies come hell or high water. This is the very first time the game has actually made me sad though.

        • I think it’s great! It would only be after continued connection issues nothing like what you are insinuating! I get sick of seeing people taking no damage and then teleporting around the map only to end up at the top of the leader board

        • I think that what Bungie has done here is fantastic! If you actually read the TWAB, they have to notice a pattern of bad condition, not just a once in a while thing. So if you are jacking WiFi signal from the McDonalds a block away from your apt to play online, you won’t be able to get away with it anymore. I personally love it.

          • Hardwired into a gaming router with 1Gb speeds for that port. After I download the new update I have had almost constant guitar, beetle and whatever error codes. Any last session saw us out numbered in 3 our of 5 comp crucible games from starting.

            • Yeah, I'm still salty about the 1-week Crucible ban I got while playing D1 last year, supposedly for 'connection issues' even though it was clearly due to the fact that I was getting thrown into matches with people on the other side of the world. Funny how I literally never have these connection issues when playing Titanfall 2, CoD: BlOps2, Halo: Reach, Halo 4 and 5, Halo 3, CoD: MW3, Battlefield 1, CoD: WWII, CoD: AW... just Destiny 1 and 2. :P

2 weeks???? Wow.. Well, there goes the entire community from Mexico (It's not their fault. Their ISPs are among the worst rated in the world). Also say goodbye to Brazil (Their ISPs not as bad as Mexico but not that good either). Sorry Bungie but that's a lazy, not very well thought solution. Your archaic P2P is part of the problem. You have more than enough money to implement a dedicated server infrastructure yet, you find it easier to ban players because of their bad connections. And yeah. There are some toxic " I wanna win no matter what or how" players who manipulate their connection to their advantage. But those are the minority. At least on consoles. It might be different story on PC though. If Activision wants to make more profit off of your game, they better start investing some cash on better servers.

              • I have a good connection and get booted from time to time. The funny thing is Bungie knows that they have connection issues on their end, but still want to issue two week bans. Talk about pushing away more players. RIDICULOUS.

Yeah, this is a terrible "solution" to the bad connection issue.. Not everyone can afford decent solid internet, especially children who rely on there parents for internet and some parents dont care. This is a deterrent, not a fix. No one is going to want to play for fear of getting banned due to maybe having poor internet. Downvoted? Really? The lag issue, and lag switchers, would be fixed if bungie would stop trying to bandaid this issue, and get dedicated servers, instead they plan to harm there player base, which a good percentage is children, who can not help having bad net. I am not concerned for my self since I have good net, and a wired connection. Bungie needs to stop this sort of thing, and just get dedicated servers.

                • I got a warning in Gambit two nights ago for getting booted at the start of a match. Kinda sucks. Also you point stands true, isn’t next week IB? I can see all kinds of issues here, especially with the huge amount of “under leveled” Guardians trying for a spot.

                • Players with potato connections shouldnt even go into pvp since they are just a detriment to everyone else. I welcome this new patch with open arms.

                • Dedicated servers will not make all of the problems go away. A major issue crap connectivity will always have is making that particular player not be able to play very well. Yes, maybe dedicated servers will stop the, having a general overall negative effect. It won’t stop them potentially screwing over the team they’re on by dying all the time or not being able to score very high. This method at leas means that if somsone’s connection is consistently bad enough to always be detrimental to the game then they’re given a significant timeout. If someone’s connection is that problematic, dedicated servers won’t suddenly make them more fun to play with. It may solve other problems but not this one.

                    • Servers cannot solve it all. There's some limitations provided from client side and it seems they have finally admitted there is no other solution than to remove those clients. Your connection is trash, why is that everyone elses problem? Get rid of the players that are ruining the experience of the rest of the community. It's about the greater good, not just how it affects you personally. And this is only for PvP side. There's still a whole other half of the game to play with tons of content. Honestly, 50% was a high side. PvP is at most 25% of this game.

                      • Not absurd at all. More games need this. Im sorry but if you have crap internet you shouldn't be playing any multiplayer games. Put the money from those games into better internet then come play. Your own connection isn't solely determined by having dedicated servers. This is a good move for now and moving forward. Lag ruins games, especially games like Destiny.
