140/150 Hand cannons on console. Why are they so much worse than D1?

Honest question, why where 140 and 150 hand cannons for controller players nerfed so badly from what they were in Destiny 1? And also, why is no one really bringing this up? I'm mainly a PC (m&k) player who loves hand cannons and I occasionally get on Xbox to play with a friend. The experience coming from PC goes from very consistent/fun to painful and terrible with the same guns on Xbox, I also remember playing the console beta after using HCs in Destiny 1 regularly and being very surprised and disappointed with how they felt in D2. There is way more recoil and way less aim assist when compared to Destiny 1 and I'm having trouble wrapping my head around why that is. Do people think they'd be overpowered if they felt as good as they did in in D1?

  • The biggest thing is bloom so in order for in PvP 140 handcannons to actually hit their targets you have to fire them almost at the pace of a 110. But 180s like lunas not forgotten trust malfeasance west of sunfall 7 with the way of their recoil is set up the ridicule goes back to place more consistently so you can register your shots more effectively.

    • Because everything is balanced around PC. That's why there is way more recoil/they require 3 crits.

      • Dude, bloom was way worse in d1. Do you not remember the rampant ghost bullets. Range was the only stat that did anything on HCs back then.

            • The only HC, I ever enjoyed in this game was the pre nerf Thorn in D1. After that nerf everything was downhill all the way to bloom nerfs. Closest thing I have enjoyed in D2 is Crimson but that's not really a HC IMHO. I tried D2 on a PC demo in a high street and every weapon felt more crisp and controlled. In general, everything is crisp on a top spec machine. For example, I'm a crap jumper and can't do whisper mission as it takes me 20 mins just to jump the puzzles. On pc I was able to do it in 10 which (I know) is bad but still much better for my standards. In PvE, I was constantly crit hitting the adds. As a hunter I felt more in control in PvP jumps. I think it's the overall platform which is much superior for same title.

                • I don't have a problem with mine. I still rock them for PvE and PvP. HCs are where it's at, and I've used them since vanilla D1. Console HC for life.

                • Speaking for PVE something feels different about Better Devils once Forsaken landed too. I used better devils quite a bit in year one, but in year 2 it feels more inconsistent. I love Trust though. Feels more crisp than Better Devils ever did, but with less damage. But because the gun has less recoil and bloom Truth can hit its rate of fire while hitting its mark it ends up being much more reliable, and feels more powerful. I don't care if HCs are bloom tastic in PVP, I prefer PVE. I want to feel like I can run around with them like I see PC players get to.

                • Any hc that isnt a cheese 180 is pretty much useless. I remember when it actually took skill to use hcs on destiny. A skill i didnt have, so i respected players who were good with them. With the intro of the precision hcs skill went out the window because you need to just stop playing if you cant lay people out with a gun like trust.

                • 180 handcannons feel like all the best on console. Easy recoil and they just feel "right". I was a huge fan of the Midnight Coup and such but for some reason they just feel really wonky and inconsistent especially since Forsaken came out. Could just be a me thing but I've noticed a lot of other people making similar points about the 150-140's. I tend to notice the inconsistencies more with the 150s though.

                    Has an average console player, I really tried to make HC work because they look so cool but it's so hard to hit all those precision shots with bloom, low rpm and lack of zoom. Still I kept going thinking I was doing ok. But yesterday I finally finished the Malfeasance quest and HO BOY does this make a difference. Now I know that even If I miss a precision shot, I can just add one bullet to my target to kill him. It has no bloom, shoot fast, 82 stability, 92 recoil direction, can shut down guardian from far away if you hit your 5 shots and even shut down super. The only downside is it's low aim assist (that would have been overkill) It's my favorite thing in the game right now and I'm considering stoping the luna grind this season because I'm not sur I'll ever be good enought to use it at it's full potential.

                    • It's because of the increased demand for precision hits in D2. The fact a Palindrome could 1 precision 2 body from anywhere on the map in .87 seconds was a -blam!-ing joke tbh. Imagine that on D2 maps. What would be the point of running anything other than a 140 hand cannon?

                        • Handcannons are definitely bugged on console. Even on pc with controller HC are still more consistent. Thus, the reason why isn’t so clear.

                        • I think handcannons have negative aim assist currently. I can have a cabal phalanx to inches from me and still somehow miss while aiming directly at the middle of their hitbox

                        • Im same as you ( mainly PC and ps4 from time to time) I think we should have separate patches for both systems so no matter what version you play it feels same or close to same ,that way HC on consoles can be viable again without breaking Pc side of things.

                          • My best guess is that HC's were impacted by the reduction of aim assist in D2. One of my buddies plays D2 on a PC but has a USB controller installed. Whenever any target wandered through his crosshairs, the weapon started auto-tracking the target, even when the controller was resting on the desk completely unattended. Bungie later nerfed this feature so that the auto-tracking was not so blatant, but it appears to have impacted HC's more than other weapons.

                            I thought it was just me. HC's are mostly terrible on the PS4. I rarely use them at all. Impossible to get precision hits with lag and an inconsistent hit box. Didn't have this problem with D1. Hand Cannons were fantastic in Y3.
