Expired Code: Destiny 1 The Taken King Legendary Edition

Purchased a new PS4 copy of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition on 11-23-18 from Kohl's and the downloadable content (DLC) code inside has been expired for over a year (valid 9-15-15 to 9-15-17). Kohl's cannot replace the product with a working DLC code because there are no working DLC codes left to provide -- they've all expired due to Bungie setting an expiration date of 9-15-17. This means that the Destiny product, a brand new and unopened copy, is rendered defective upon consumer purchase. Nowhere on the packaging of this product is there a disclaimer or notice that the product expires at a definite date. Seeing as this expiration and product design is Bungie/Activision's doing, the deceptive marketing is effectively a form of fraud, which is disappointing to say the least. I called Sony support and they confirmed that the DLC code was unused but expired on 11-2-18. Since it is a third party code (managed through Bungie/Activision), it is not in Sony's responsibility to replace the code. Upon looking into Bungie/Activision for support, multiple Activision cases conclude that Bungie is explicitly responsible for the handling of these DLC codes. Therefore, these codes are handled and replaced through Bungie. Activision support cases indicating Bungie is responsible for handling and replacing expired codes: https://community.activision.com/t5/Activision-Support/I-bought-the-Limited-Edition-of-Destiny-only-to-find-the-codes/td-p/9869222 https://community.activision.com/t5/Activision-Support/You-guys-gave-me-an-expired-code-through-Amazon-of-Destiny-the/m-p/9751560 https://community.activision.com/t5/Activision-Support/Code-expired-for-destiny-while-I-was-on-military-leave/td-p/9768968 I have attempted to find a support phone number for Bungie, but they do not have one. Therefore, these forums are the only place to seek help with resolving this issue. I would appreciate the help of Bungie in acquiring the content paid for in this new copy of Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition. Thank you.

  • So I have a code for Destiiny Legendary edition but I can't use it anymore as it's expired. Is there any way I can play this content?

It's a long shot but try entering the code anyway. The "valid until" date only means that's how long they can guarantee it'll work. I got a same "expired" code when I bought a copy for PS3 but the code still worked.

  • After speaking with multiple customer service representatives and their supervisors from Sony, they all confirmed that the Destiny DLC codes must be replaced by Bungie. The generation and validity of these DLC codes is conducted by Bungie as a third party, and is not managed by Sony, for the PS4 platform. Even if Sony or Microsoft wanted to help customers access the content, they do not have control over the DLC codes.

  • Bungie can't help you since they aren't the retailer, they did not sell you the code.
