Breakneck, Loaded Question, AFK Gridning, and Triumphs.

It's cool that Bungie put something out there for us to get weapons like Breakneck, Loaded Question, and Nightshade. Grinding away for weapons sucks, but it's better than a really bad RNG. That being said, is anyone else getting AFK players in Strikes or Gambit? I've been playing on and off for the past two days now, and it seems that almost every strike I run there will be that person that hits emotes to prevent them from being DC'd for inactivity. Don't get me wrong, two manning a strike is fun and challenging in ways that I wish Bungie would introduce the concept. I'm just getting irritated that every strike I run gets me someone who will just sit in spawn and do nothing. Then there is gambit, which is even worse. Whereas two manning a strike can add a new depth of challenge, 3 vs 4 in gambit is just a joke. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. It's cool that we now have weapon quests that are not determined by RNG, but now we have the issue of dealing with AFK players. Hopefully this pattern dies out in the next few weeks since forty matches isn't too bad, but I mean come on Bungie. Next time skip the 'Complet X Amount' and instead focus on a wider array of tasks. Make triumphs worth something other than a score. Completing a triumph should give you a special weapon or emblem, or something.

  • If there AFK just leave, don’t give it to them, only problem is gambit I had someone dancing and not doing anything but if I left I would get in trouble with the drifter 😬

I get AFKs in strikes all the time...the response? You mad? You gonna be alright? Sometimes emergencies happen (yeah right, exactly at the start of the strike and yet you are there to respond at the end). Sucks. Reporting and blocking do NOTHING.

  • Reporting players is about as far as you go but it can actually get players in trouble. If someone is seen as afk reported for literally an entire day that leads to a suspension or ban even. People think reports don't do anything because they don't see an instant response.

I have been seeing AFK’ers in both Strikes and Gambit. Fortunately for strikes they are a mild annoyance but I definitely report anyone with zero kills and who I only saw in the boss fight room (as a blue orb). For Gambit I have given up on winning games for the next several weeks until most players get their gun. Forcing so many AR multi-kills is one of the issues, especially when running into so many Skorn or Cabal where lower level opponents have shields that prevent quick multi-kills. The other problem is that the 1000 AR kills over 40 games means that players need to average 25 AR kills/game. This is somewhat okay in the beginning as many players are relatively equal footing for getting AR kills but as time has gone on and some have gotten the Breakneck they are now getting far more kills quickly which reduces the stock of enemies for others who have normal AR’s to get their kills. This means that it will take more than 40 games for those that did not grind Gambit for the first week to get their “Breakneck” unless they throw the game to get extra kills during a third round. While I am not happy about this I certainly understand why it is happening as well that it is going to get worse before it gets better. For AFK’ers in Strikes I think Bungie can do something about not counting strikes with fewer than X number of kills if a person spawned into a strike before the first half is completed. The same could be said for true AFK’ers in Gambit. However for those throwing Gambit games for kills I do not think there is much that can be done since it was Bungie that added a second “goal” that is at cross purposes to the goal of winning the game. The best that we can do for now is to either not play gambit until this settles down and everyone gets their gun or play in a manner that lets others get their AR kills for the gun and that those don’t need it help them out by doing other Gambit roles: pick up motes, invade, clear the bank area, hunt invaders. The sooner we get through this the sooner we can get back to regular Gambit.

    • Yea.. several matches of Gambit all week. Ppl just moving slightly, not doing much of anything. Totally just farming matches. Glad I finished both already so I don't have to deal anymore.

    • in strikes, I have not noticed this at all. in gambit, I can't say that I Have noticed it, but running an auto rifle for the first 20 matches did make it more of a challenge since it does not kill as well as the standard loadout I run. in gambit, for the second 20 matches I was still balls to the wall since I had regular loadout back and didn't care whether or not I lost - though I tried as best as possible to win.

    • Haven't had a problem once in Strikes or Gambit. Aside from REALLY bad Gambit team players, but that's the life of a solo que.

    • I didn't run into a single AFKer while grinding for Loaded Question. Gambit is another story, though. I've actually used the "find fireteam" option to make dedicated 4 stacks to throw matches just to speed things up. I don't like screwing over other solo players, so fireteams are a must if you're gonna throw.

      • Ran into more afk players in strikes but there was one guy in gambit who was just running around spawn like a asshole the ENTIRE GAME I really enjoy gambit tbh but going in with randoms can make a guy cringe, why can't people be good noodles like in freaking forge and ep, like seriously there should be a penalty that if you intentionally throw a gambit match (no motes, or kills of any kind ) you should lose all of your progress or at least a good chunk Your not being "FORCED" to play the game mode you should be PLAYING the game mode FOR THE DAMN GUN

        • Not so much in Gambit, but definitely in Strikes. Ran quite a few over the last three days, just grinding for Loaded Question and I'd comfortably say that 50% of the time we had an AFK player. It's fine 2 manning them, like you say it can be a challenge and I do it with Nightfall. It'll stop once everyone has done their 40

        • Ok, dude, thanks for addressing this. I see people searching for fireteams and it says "Throwing Gambit matches, no motes, no invades, loose fast". This is the most trash search I encountered. It's basically searching for KWNTD. I mean why you want this weapon anyways, if you don't want play Gambit and its a Gambit treasure. These people who need their instant pleasure now are the trash of trash. I want Breackneck too but I am getting there. 40 matches is a long way to go. I mean we talk about 13 hours of Gambit, if every gambit mach last only two rounds. So we can say its 15 hours of Gambit approximately. But still, every player gets there eventually. I just feel its a bad trait in a human being. Same goes with buying Lunas. If I cant get there myself, I won't use it. I grind it out with a friend. People who buy the Luna's are often surprised that it doesn't make them a PvP King. No kidding, the gun is all about skill. Thats why the quest is as unforgiving as its genius. You have to do hand canon kills to get there, you get so good at hand canon kills, that going back to quickplay gives you an instant feeling of controlling the battle. Comp makes a player good. T This derailed a bit, but yes, I had games with afk players, but I am not leaving the game, I still finish the game, because I don't want to be trash. I feel afk players should be kicked by the game after 30 seconds of not responding and put in a new player who's on line asap. I am not sure how this is possible, but I want to get the Breackneck and I also like to play Gambit.

          • I have both Breakneck and Loaded Question and run into 1 AFK person, I reported him on both Bungie and Xbox Live and he was kicked about 30 seconds after.

          • I prefer the quest grind knowing ill get the weapon than rng which can never give you the item...or with shit rolls how hard is it to program a game mode "if not 4 players on both team then dont start the match" ffs Luckily you only need to complete matches, doing it with rando's usually goes all to shit....or you get matched with stacks.

          • Same. I think one step would be to shave 10 strikes off the total required. The other requirements for breakneck and loaded question take about 20 strikes if you put in about middle focus on trying to get the kills you need. An extra 10 strikes after completing the other requirements isnt bad, a good way to chill and try for some exotic drops, but 20 starts to hit the realm of tedium for me. Probably why we see people pop an emote then afk to do something else
