Some basic tips for Gambit (Mainly for solo-queuing)

Here are some rules that EVERYONE needs to know if they want to get into a Gambit match and NOT have the rest of your team throw their gaming platform thingy out the nearest window. Rule 1: (the most important one) I do not care, how good, how amazing, how spectacular, how confident, how incredibly breathtaking you think you are at Gambit. When you hear the Drifter scream "Bank and you'll summon a Primeval." or one of the other 50 phrases he says, that means... STOP: I do NOT care what the heck your doing, the second the Drifter says you can summon a primeval, that means you run as fast as you can to the bank, and drop in your motes, I don't care if you are one hit away from killing that random yellow-bar servitor, I don't care if you have your super charged and there is a big group of enemies just BEGGING to be killed, you STOP and you bank your f***ing motes. You bank your motes, you summon your Primeval, you win (usually) Rule 2: Stop always going for a large blocker! there are so many times when sending over 4 small blockers can be WAY more effective then sending over one large blocker that gets melted in 4 seconds if the other team is smart enough to focus their fire on it. Especially because the small blockers can push your enemies off ledges, getting rid of any motes they had. Sure a large blocker could also kill some people, (not really) but nine times out of ten, a few small blockers can be way more effective than one large blocker. Rule 3: STOP INVADING RANDOMLY! I don't care if you think it's your turn to invade in Gambit, stop just randomly invading when you have nothing, only to die, lose all 15 of your motes (another mistake; invading with motes) and then scream in the mic how the other team is hacking. ONLY invade when you have a: Your Super OR b: Power ammo Now it's not like if you don't have these when you invade you're automatically not going to get any kills, but it would most certainly help to have them when you invade. Rule 4: Kill the wizards first! This one not many people may know about, but if you kill the wizards that spawn near the primeval when it spawns in you will be able to deal more damage to the Primeval, so it is always a good idea to quickly clear out those wizards before engaging the primeval. Rule 5: Do not invade the moment the enemy gets their primeval. Trust me, this does absolutely nothing, save that invasion portal for when they have started to deal a bit of damage to their primeval to reset their progress (and remember rule 3 before invading) if you invade right as they spawn their primeval, sure you may kill them and set them back a tiny bit, but you would be doing so much more if you just wait until their primeval has taken a bit of damage before invading. Rule 6: If you have zero motes, and there is an invader, well congratulations buddy, chum, pal, friend, amigo, (insert other friendly words here) you have just earned the title of invader finder/killer. If you have zero motes, stop cowering in a corner, and go hunt down the invader, kill him before he can kill you. Besides, it's not like hiding will actually do anything as the invader can see where you are through walls. Rule 7: Always try to focus down blockers. Oh hey! would you look at that! There's a big ol' taken knight standing right beside your bank and he's really upset so he's not gonna let you bank your motes, so what's the logical thing to do? Kill him! or her, I don't know, do Taken have genders? Anyway, legit though, focus down the blockers, because guess what, all those motes your collecting really don't mean anything if there's still a blocker in your path, preventing you from banking any motes. Anyway, this has gone on long enough, those are some (yea, there's more) of the basic rules you should know before heading into your next gambit match. And BTW don't think I'm telling you that you HAVE to follow these rules to the word and only focus on winning and not on having fun. NO that is not what I am saying, I am just trying to help you with some tips on how to be better at Gambit, and trust me, the better you are at something, the more fun it is (usually). By all means, have fun! It's a video game, after all, it's supposed to be played for fun! However, I can guarantee you that your team will be very thankful if you know these basic rules. Now, eyes up guardian, go have some fun. :) EDIT: To all the people who think this was just copied and pasted. (Particularly one individual, who's name I shall not say) this was NOT copied from some random website or something. Do I claim that these pieces of advice are mine and mine only? NO these are pieces of advice that I found from videos, playing the game, and watching others play the game. If there is some trick or website where you verify if this is copied then by all means do so. But I can assure you that this was not copied and pasted from reddit, or from another post on the forum, or whatever other website you may think. I wrote this. Am I claiming that I invented these rules? NO I am NOT I know I did not make these rules. I am not taking ownership of them.

    • Rule 1: Never go into the Drifter’s van, even if he promises to ”do something that will make you shiver”. Rule 2: Call the authorities immediately if you spot the Drifter within 1000’ of any school.

    • You could tell people how to find bags of gold hidden out in the real world and people would still find reasons to complain about it. Great post. So many people who play Gambit don't have any clue what they are doing. I was one of them. I'm still not great but I make less dumb moves then I used to.

    • As an additional to 4. If you kill both wizards too quickly by using something like Tether you won't automatically have a 2x buff, you'll need to wait a little. I've seen a couple of Titans go in with MP too early not realising this.

      • I got to add one more, I just itch to tell everyone this: Don't gather more than you need/want to. For example you go to a bunch of motes on the ground, 5 to be exact, you are holding 8 motes. You should really gather only 2 and let your teammate gather the rest. Let's say your teammate has 7 motes, if you leave the motes for him/her, than you both have 10(2 medium blockers. If you are being greedy and you gather them all then you will have 13 and your teammate will be left with 7, which means he will want to get more and work more and like the op said, Large blockers are really not that great, trust me I know, and my Telesto knows too. It is also the difference between 1 medium blocker and 2 medium blocker that you both can shove in and then get back to work. Every mote counts, seriously, aim to send as many blockers as possible by being accurate. If you are playing as a four stack you can also follow my guide when I lead teams in. You can assign each person to one of the 4 jobs that when followed correctly work effectively. Defender: Does not invade but kills the invader. Prioritizes on blockers and avoids picking up motes at all. Supports the Collector in killing enemies when no blockers are present(I'll get to collector in a minute). Can stay in the middle as long as they can target and effectively damage enemies Invader: Communicates with the team about their status. This pertains to their heavy ammo stock(they always pick up the heavy ammo in the center) and super. If they are not fitted to invade, then the backup goes in(I will talk about the backup in a minute). The invader can order the person with the lowest amount of motes to bank IF IT WILL OPEN THE PORTAL. Collector: Must be exceptional in the PvE aspect and wipe enemies, High value targets. Must use supportive supers(Tether, Well of Radiance) to help everyone out on Primevil Phase. Collects motes between 10 and 15, not 5. If there are more motes than can be picked up, he can order the invader and the backup to go get motes or increase efforts. Must be defensive and never allow motes to be lost. Backup: Picks up motes generally between 5 and 10, not 15. Responds to any shout for help. This means responding to the defenders callout of location of the invader, the collectors need to pick up motes, and the invaders command to go in if he is not capable of doing so. The Backup is the leader, when Primevil Phase begins. He can call out for specific enemies to be killed and when to begin DPS to "melt" the primevil. Yes I know it's brilliant and it works. Which job do I do you ask? Mostly backup, because I can perform all tasks, but sometimes when I am chill and want to have fun, I am the defender.

          • So many people bitching about this post. Yeah, OP doesn’t make the “rules” for the game. Obviously. But this is just a summary of how to play effectively. When someone solo queues and gets constantly destroyed because their teammates wanna get 15 notes and instead get killed by walking off the edge of the map, it’s frustrating. I’ve run into that giant floating meatball 3 times now and I’ve lost on every single one because my teammates don’t want to focus fire on Primeval Envoys before the Primeval and they want to invade once it’s available. Following these guidelines make the experience better for your teammates. If you don’t want to play the game as it’s intended, get a group of 4 and mess around then. Otherwise, please try and be courteous and aware of how your gameplay is affecting others.

          • No one listens to constructive criticism. These people that you’re trying to help now think you’re an asshole for telling them how to win. I had a match earlier that I had a teammate bank 0 motes and lose 59.

          • I personally think the phalanx is the best blocker and it only cost 5 so I always go for it. The ogre melts pretty fast to high rof shotties.

              • These are all great notions, but given the inconsistency & matchmaking in Gambit, it's hardly worth playing to win when running solo. I'm there for bountys & engrams & I couldn't care less about winning or losing. It's a sloppy mess. The mechanics are seriously flawed & I regularly see ppl losing 40-50 motes in a game. And given all the best intentions & work can be undone by one invader, I jus can't be bothered to play that seriously. The 4 stacks v 4 solos is happening waaaay too often & the fact it's now impacting weapons speaks volumes about how flawed the game mode is.. Jus.. why even bother 😂
