Back in Vanilla D2 merciless was the go to wepon for Boss melts.
I tried out the thing in a solar singe nightfall yesterday because the catalyst dropped for me and it felt terrible: Bad tracking, bad damage. I feel sorry for everyone that this travesty takes up a spot in the Lootpool.
It seems someone on the Fusionrifle team thought: Ok we have 2 exotic fusion rifles Telesto and Merciless. For Balance reasons we have to make one good and one bad.
I hope its not the guy from D1 that decided you could only have one good exotic machine gun (Thunderlord) and make the other a meme (Super good advice).
Logic?

They took all the destruction power of Mercilous and put it in Telesto. Now we have a useless exotic fusion rifle and a broken o.p. aids in the Crucible bain of my existance pvp crutch please nerf bungie weapon.

fusions recently got buffed pretty massively
-
Gladd two manned one floored riven using rockets and merciless

4 RepliesMerciless is a beast in both pve and pvp if u have the catalyst unlocked

Fusion rifles as a whole are in a weird spot right now. Why put down something like the EP Shotty for one? That being said, it has gained some light recently and is one of the highest DPS secondaries in the game now. Paired with Cluster Rockets and Rally/Luna Rift, you'll be a boss killer.
-
4 RepliesYou do know it's one of the highest DPS weapons on the game right? My only issue is the ammo carry capacity.
-
I still rock it from time to time. Mainly. Because I can't get anything new to drop.
-
5 RepliesIt's called planned obsolescence. What's your incentive to farm for the new stuff if the old stuff is still good? When's the last time you saw a Coldheart? Or a Legend of Acrius? What about Borealis or Riskrunner? Sunshot? By making only the new exotics any good, and decreasing the drop rate Bungo is trying to encourage people to play more to farm for those weapons, because they know there's no other content in the game. But if you really want that Trinity Ghoul maybe you'll play another 10 hours, and maybe you'll spend that 5 bucks to try and get the ornament from Tess.

I think it works pretty well actually

I got the Catalyst a few weeks ago from NF grinding, decided to complete it and it felt pretty good in the right moments. That said, there were some great inconsistencies and it just shows the state of traditional Fusion Rifles that something high-impact with phenomenal stats (81 Range, 93 Stability, would have been God-tier in D1) AND Kill Clip (and Feeding Frenzy, an unlisted benefit of the Impetus perk) is overlooked in favour of Rare Shotguns.

I remember Hard Light being a (surprisingly) boss melter as well back in the 330 days. But just like the other guy - I noticed leveling up that it was no longer reliable. Kind of would be nice to find that Gambit-Secret-Weapon. 🤓

Edited by joey big guns: 11/19/2018 6:14:38 PMI haven’t used it in a while but yeah, i noticed that too when I started leveling up my hunter a bit. it was my fav for stuff back when I played some in Vanilla but I’m sure it was silently nerfed to make the “new” loot seem better or stronger.
