Are we going to kill Shin Malphur...

Just finished the Malfeasance quest there are the final talk with Drifter was rather unpleasant to me when it comes to the Lore Basically by receiving this gun we are pledging our allegiance to the Shadows Of Yor to the smallest extent ,Through this quest we learn that Drifter is the last of the Shadows and that Malphur is coming for him ,but now he’s arming Guardians to take him down This is not good Sure Drifter gave us a cool gun but Drifter is not a good guy in this debate ,He’s the target ,He’s not a guardian ,He’s a Lightbearer . He chose to leave the city to persue all sorts of dark arts and sway between groups beyond the status of Guardian Whereas Shin Malphur is a Guardian ,One who actually fights for the light and to protect the city to exterminate the Shadows Of Yor and their plot to recreate the infamous Thorn .Since D1 he’s been renowned for being on our side but now with the Malfeasance in our arsenal have we painted a target on our backs ? With Jokers Wild coming in 2019 I’m sure we will find out what’s gonna happen ,But just as all DLC’s go we are always the one at the end whose gonna pull the trigger on whatever force is in our way I just hope that force isn’t the fabled Gunslinger himself ...

  • What’s wrong with gaining the Drifter’s trust? We can always stab (or shoot) ‘im in the back. Also, if you read the ‘A Drifter’s Gambit’ lore book, Shin actually tells you to watch the Drifter and see if his ideas would actually work, or be detrimental to the Light, the City, or (of course) the cohesion of all known spacetime. Tldr; I think we should keep the Drifter’s trust, and if he goes off the deep end, we end him.

    • Why not? Shin’s too much of a goody two shoes. You’re all a bunch of goody two shoes. Y’all need a little dark in your lives.

    • I am a Guardian of the Last City on Earth. I will slay any and everything that attempts to snuff out my Light, for I am a Guardian. It is my Destiny to defend all that the Light touches, and illuminate what the Darkness has consumed. All that is beyond the Last City is the lawless frontier; hence the word "lawless."

    •
https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/the-long-con?highlight=The+Long+Con
The Drifter's Gambit isn't to kill Shin, its to kill his old crew by luring them out with a fake crew who think they're gonna kill Shin. How do people not realize this?

      • We find out our play in this in the season of the drifter. But me personally shin is just a light bearer as well. Aren’t we all. If you find the idea of becoming a shadow/dredgen don’t play gambit anymore and hope shin doesn’t pay much attention to you.

      • We gotta kill Shin, he’s no longer a good guardian, he’s filled with hate and mercilessly hunts down guardians he believes to be not 100% “good” in his view. He has become judge, jury and executioner

        • I feel like we will kill him not knowing who he is then we get to the tower and Zavala is waiting with armed guardians and give us a speech about how we went to the reef agains orders and killed a unarmed man for revenge then we broke the quarantine on the cosmodrome for revenge then we killed a guardian trying to stop the darkness so Zavala thinks we’ve turned evil and exiles us then in panumbra we leave on the leviathan to go to the cable homeworld

          • I honestly think that itd be a great idea to maybe do like a faction rally, but with the Drifter and Shin where we choose to represent one of the two in all things that we do usually, plus daily and weekly bounties that add to their faction scores or ranks or whatever, and add a daily quest to do for one of them that tells the story of whats going on between them currently as we do the rally. At the end depending on who won the rally, one of them would end up being killed and it would mean that we and some (but still thats some as opposed to none) of our choices would have actually have made a pretty big impact story wise on the world

          • My thought is hopefully not... I think the whole malfeasance aspect is a means of defending himself, and that includes befriending us along the way! Time will tell on how they play out the characters... we could turn on the drifter, he could turn on us, Shin could be mental. But there's a free spot in the vanguard so.... If we get shadows of yor to chase in the dlc, that would be cool; but I suspect we'd just be following a trail of corpses! But, it will probably all play out a side story that we're not involved in!

            • Im not sure if you have read all the Drifter's Gambit lore but....
Though they may have their own agendas The Renegade and The Drifter are working together to draw the true Shadows of Yor from hiding. Anyone who gains the Dredgen title gets added to Shin's list.
• Good and bad are subjective. I don’t believe we have made a concrete allegiance with either side but I do think this story arc is much deeper than what we think.

              • Drifter didn’t leave the city to become a rogue lightbearer he’s a lot older than the city. Back from the time of the dark age and the iron lords

              • I always thought he was working with Shin to luer out Guardians who might become a threat? Drifter doesn't like working with a gun to his head so he tricks us into making a weapon that could help him out, getting our Guardian roped up in his crew I really hope we don't kill Shin, I refuse to be a Dredgen! I just like being the hero...

The Drifter is actually not a Shadow of Yor. He has associated with them sure. and Gambit draws people to it that might have a similar mindset yes. But he is mostly just a dude that believes in using light and dark to fight the enemy. He doesn't follow Yor to a tee like the Shadows do. Just a similar mindset. And because of that and his associations he does fear Shin will try to kill him so he made this gun so we could all take him out of the day comes where Shin wants to end him.

                • I would love (story wise) to be split into factions of dark or light. Now i want you to think about what bungie has already said about D3 . It will be an open world with pvp elements made into the landscape. And we will be able to wield the power of the darness. What i believe and i hope its true is that we will be given the chance to side with the dark or the light and working towards the dredgen title, (That i just obtained) will give us that chance to join the shadows of yor. Can you imagine guardians split into factions of light and dark in and open world game kind like world of warcraft where you have Horde, Legion ect. I would love that narative and game play

                  • I sense that decisions will have to be made. The game right now feels like it’s heavily influenced by Dark Souls. So guardian, protect the light? Or embrace the dark? The choice is yours.

I don't believe Shin would kill us based on our own accomplishments, even if we did go on a path of revenge, so did he when killed Dredgen Yor. The Malfeasance is just a gun, but it's a gun capable of killing Taken and Invading Guardians, which might mean that gun is no friend to the Dark. Drifter ran with the Shadows of Yor for a short time, but he apparently left their crew, and I do believe he's running from them too. He simply wants our help to deal with an enemy he knows he can't take out on his own, and Drifter isn't evil; he's a form of neutrality, looking out for himself and anyone who does him a solid. It's survival: he knows better than we do given his adventures. In the end, Shin isn't after Drifter. He's trying to bring the Shadows out of hiding to kill them, and he's keeping an eye on the Drifter should he need to be dealt with, but even Shin doesn't really know Drifter's angle, and lets him continue Gambit. When the time comes, it'll be the three of us against the Shadows of Yor, and Drifter will prove his point.

                    • I doubt we're gonna kill Shin. For one he has Shaxx on his side. The only reason Shaxx allows gambit, is because Shin convinced him to, so he could keep on eye on the shadows. Also based on Drifters conversations he doesn't expect the shadows to win the fight, but rather kill Shin with them, so Shin is still good enough that we should lose if we tried. I think If Shin shows up, drifter will weasel his way out of getting killed, and Shin will kill the Shadows.

                    • Well when tou unlokc the dredgen title if you talk to him he goes a step further and tells you that not only will shin probably be coming for you but that you should probably pick a name for yourself soon wile also calling you Dredgen himself segmenting that you have by doing his quest and achieving the title became a shadow of Yor.
